1.The temperature of a liquid was 15 0 C before it was placed in a freezer. After sometime it's
temperature dropped to 2 0 C. Use a number line to find the temperature difference of a liquid.
( 2mrks)

2. Work out : (3 marks)

1/2(1/5+1/3)×3/2÷3+(3/4×1/2)
3. Three members of a society shared profits. One member received 1/6 of the profits. Another
member received 1/9 of the profits.

(a) Find the fraction of the profit received by the third member. (4 marks)

(b) If the third member received Ksh. 13 000, find the amount of the profit received by each of
the other two members. (2 marks)

4. Convert to decimals: (2 marks)

(ii) 1/6

5. Express as a fraction: (3marks)

8. Round off each of the following numbers correct to the given significant figures in brackets:

9. Without using a calculator, work out: ( 4 marks)

1.42+14.4÷2-3.6
10.A square farm measures 4.78 m on each side. Find its area in square metres. (2 marks)

11.The area of a square tile is 38.44 m2. What is the length of each side? (2marks)

12. Using log table work out: (4 marks)

(a) Square of 0.000196

(b) Square root of 0.0001456

13. A 63 hectare farm is to be shared among three sons in the ratio 2:3:4. Find the size in
hectares received by each of the three sons. (3 marks)

14. The number of learners in a class is 45. When the number of girls is subtracted from the
number of boys, the difference is five. Find the number of boys and the number of girls in the
class. (4 marks)
15. Nine minibuses of the same capacity can transport 162 people when full. Find the number
of such minibuses required when full to capacity to transport 180 people (4 marks)

16. Jumba invested Ksh. 850 000 in a bank which paid 8% simple interest per annum. Find
interest earned on savings after a period of six years. (4 marks)

17. Fabrah bought a tea estate at a cost of Ksh. 175 000 000 three years ago.The value of the
estate appreciates at the rate of 5% per annum. (10 marks)

(a) Find the present value of the tea estate.

(b) Suppose the value of the estate depreciated at the same rate for three consecutive years,
what could be it's present value?
18. The cash price or a car was Ksh. 875 000. Tony bought it on hire purchase terms.

The hire purchase price was Ksh. 100 000 more than the cash price. (10 marks)

(a) Calculate the hire purchase price.

(b) Calculate the deposit if he paid four equal monthly instalments of Ksh.200 000.

19. Construct a net of a solid cube of side 4 cm. Use the net to find the surface area of the solid.
(10 mrks)

20. (a) Draw line AB= 6 cm. Divide it into four equal parts using line AC of suitable length. (5
mrks)
(b) Draw line BC=8 cm. Point M is on the line such that BM is 3 cm. Construct a
perpendicular to BC through M. (5 mrks)

21. (a) The exterior angle of a regular n sided coin is 720 . Find n. (5 mrks)

(b) The interior angles of a regular polygon are each 1350 each. Find the number of sides of the
polygon. (5 mrks)
