WHAT IS SOFTBALL?
is an outdoor game that
demands robust physical
strength and stamina in
addition to good strategy.
a. Underhand
throwing is the act of
passing the ball below the
shoulder level.
b. Overhead
throwing is the act of
passing the ball by
swinging your arm just
above the shoulder
2. FIELDING
- Defensive act of
catching the ball after a
successful hit was made.
It could be a ground or a
fly ball.
3. BATTING
- The act of hitting the
ball by swinging the
arms backward and
hitting the incoming ball
by swinging it again
toward the area of the
ball origin
4. CATCHING
- The process of
receiving the ball from a
pitch or throw. Good
coordination is
necessary for this kind of
skill.
DIFFERENT POSITIONS
OF THE PLAYERS IN
SOFTBALL
INFIELDERS
are players who are inside
in the diamond and play
any one of these four
positions. Each of these
positions have their own
unique set of
responsibilities which favor
particular skills.
1. PITCHER
The one who throws
the ball toward a
batter which is
positioned at the
middle of the
diamond
2. CATCHER
The player who controls
the pitcher's throw and
positioned at the back of
the home plate. The
catcher and the pitcher are
the leaders of the game.
3. FIRST BASEMAN
The player that is
positioned on the
right side of the
diamond next to the
catcher's position to
his/her right.
4. SECOND BASEMAN
The one who is in the
middle of the diamond
next to first base.
He/She is in control
between the gap from
the first base going to
him/her.
5. THIRD BASEMAN
This player takes
care of the hit that
travels the third
base. He/She is
positioned next to
shortstop.
6. SHORTSTOP
The player whose
position is in between the
second baseman and the
third baseman. He/She is
in control of the ball
traveling between the
second and the third
base.
OUTFIELDERS
The players who
cover the position
outside the diamond
or the field. They take
care of the ball that
passes through the
diamond.

HOME PLATE UMPIRE
• They must call every pitch a ball, strike or foul
within a strike zone which varies from batter
to batter. This requires the umpire to pay
close attention to each pitch and the number
of balls and strikes with each batter.

STRIKE ZONE:
defined as the volume of space
above home plate and between
the batter's knees and the
midpoint of their torso. Whether
a pitch passes through the zone is
decided by an umpire, who is
generally positioned behind the
catcher.
