Forward
This Report of Insulation Resistance test and Earth resistance test provides complete documentation of equipment & system is tested. It uses a subjective evaluation to help
you prioritize repairs to provide the greatest return from this inspection and your maintenance and specifications published by ASTM, NFPA and NETA. This report has been
evaluated in accordance with the Inter National Electrical Testing Association (NETA)-Maintenance Testing Specifications for Electrical Power Distribution Equipment and
Systems.

Engineering under this contract shall be limited to the inspection area where infrared insulation and earth test took place. Except as set out herein, GSL Engineering shall be
under no liability whatsoever to the Client for any loss, expense or damage howsoever caused, whether in contract or in tort or pursuant or any Statute, Rule or Regulation
of otherwise, and whether such loss, expense or damage resulted from any act or omission or advice, including any negligent act or omission or advice given by GSL
Engineering.
Abstract
UNI-T allows for nonintrusive measurement of insulation and earth resistance of plant equipment. The intent is to measure insulation resistance, system earth resistance
and Lightening Protection System (LPS) earth resistance test. Early detection permits more effective maintenance planning and scheduled outages. Also perform pre- and
post-outage measurements, verify successful installation or repair, and predict problems.
Expected results
1. The resistance of an earth electrode for overall electrical power distribution system. – 1.0 (Ω)
2. The resistance of an earth electrode for lightning protection system. – 10.0 (Ω).

Comments
The survey process and reporting were done mainly based on the ANSI/NEC world, the standard ANSI/NETA ATS-2009 acceptance testing specification. Periodical
Earth Resistance Test should be carried out for all grounding pits in the electrical systems during the dry season in every 2 (two)-year as per standard of
Bangladesh Electricity Rules 1937, Clause 57 (4) & (5) and Section 2.11.1.2 and 2.11.3 of BNBC-2006.
In the BNBC (2.8.3.5-a) provides test procedures and acceptance levels for the earth electrode shall, as far as practicable, penetrate into permanently moist Soil
preferably belowground water table. The resistance of earth electrodes shall not be more than 1 ohm. BNBC (2.9.3.5) the total resistance of an electrode for an electrode
for a lightning protection system must not exceed 10 ohms.
Used of a direct-reading digital earthing resistance tester. These instruments use an electronic-type AC generator, together with two auxiliary electrodes, the spacing of
which must be such that the zone of influence of the electrode being tested should not overlap that of the test electrode (C). The test electrode (C) furthest from the
electrode (X) under test passes a current through the earth and the electrode under test, while the second test electrode (P) picks up a voltage. This voltage, measured
between (X) and (P), is due to the test current and is a measure of the contact resistance (of the electrode under test) with earth. It is clear that the distance (X) to (P) must
be carefully chosen to give accurate results. If the distance (X) to (C) is increased, however, the zones of resistance of electrodes (X) and (C) become more remote, one
from the other, and the curve of potential (voltage) becomes more nearly horizontal about the point (0). In practical tests, therefore, the distances (X) to (C) is increased
until readings taken with electrode (P) at three different points, i.e. at (P) and at approximately 5 meters on either side of (P), give similar values. The distance (X) to (P) is
generally about 0.62 of the distance (X) to (C).
Note: The principal of measurement is based on assumed homogeneous soil conditions. Where the zones of influence of electrodes C & X overlap, the location of the test
electrode P is difficult to determine for satisfactory results.
