P2097-00: Post Catalyst Fuel Trim Too Rich

Overview:

Code Cause Effect on Vehicle

Fault Code: P2097 1. Fuel trims not at programmed limit. CEL illuminates.
MIL- Off 2. Post catalyst fuel correction factor at
CEL – On programmed limit.
Immo Lamp – NA 3. Post-catalyst oxygen sensor voltage higher
Message on IC - NA than set point

Checkpoints:

1. Check downstream O2 sensor wiring connections & leakages if any.

Trouble Shooting Steps:

Sr. No. Steps Specifications

Step 1 Check for misfire and other DTCs are first. No DTC should be
present.
Step 2 Check for exhaust leaks, which may cause this DTC to set. No exhaust leak should be
present.
Step 3 Usually this DTC is not caused by a faulty oxygen sensor. If no other
causes are found, check the oxygen sensor for proper operation.
Step 4 Check the voltage at oxygen sensor output wire between sensor pi < 800±60 mV (=0.97, Rich)
no. 3 & 4. If the voltage is less (0.02 V) that is indicative of a > 50±40 mV (=1.1, Lean)
problem.
Step 5 Replace O2 sensor, if found faulty.

Circuit Schematic Diagram:

Circuit Description:

The Ignition / Cigar Coil is used to generate spark for combustion in the engine cylinder. It consists of step up
transformer which sits directly on the spark plug. The Cigar Coil power is supplied by the fuse protected +Batt.
Voltage. The spark duration command to the Cigar Coil is given by the EMS ECU. The Cigar Coil operating
voltage depends upon vehicle voltage i.e. 12V. The EMS ECU controls –Ve (GND) of the Cigar Coil as per
programmed spark dwell time. There is a separate Cigar Coil for every cylinder.
