Debate, TH Would Ban Bottle Water
Debate, TH Would Ban Bottle Water
bottled water companies don’t produce water, they produce plastic bottles. Good morning everyone.
Our motion before us today is : th would ban bottled water. But our interpretation is that the
production and consumption of bottle waters should be reduced. To begin with, I would start with my
rebuttal:
BANNING OR REDUCING THE USE OF BOTTLED WATER WOULD MINIMIZE WASTE AND PROTECT THE
ENVIRONMENT
It is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish.
Plastic water bottles were the third most commonly collected trash during the Ocean Conservancy’s
International Coastal Cleanup behind cigarette butts and plastic food wrappers. “We are running out of
time.”-Greta Thungberg, that inspired an international movement to fight climate change. Almost all
plastic water bottles are made of raw materials that are derived from crude oil and natural gas. The
Pacific Institute found that it took about 17 million barrels of oil to produce enough plastic for the bottles
of water consumed by Americans in 2006. The USA used 8.3 billion gallons in 2006 to produce the
water bottles, and 13.7 billion gallons in 2017, increasing the need for more plastic water bottles and
thus more oil and gas. As you see, the numbers keep increasing and growing every minute. Do you have
any idea how much damage this makes to the earth? It is terrible how animals keep dying every day
because of this issue. Turtles are trapped in plastic films, fishes try to eat the plastic bottles, whales
swallow the bottle caps, and sadly in every situation they end up dead. And these are only some
examples of the amount of animals that die..
We need to stop this NOW. Because the problem is not the use of plastic, but where that plastic goes.
We need to find solutions to the problem we are facing, to continue being part of this lovely planet.
Luckily we have answers to these problems: First of all, we need to create awareness of pollution issues.
People must know the problems we are facing, to be responsible for the acts they do, and to protect the
environment. Secondly, we need to teach people how to recycle, to transform bottles in lots of things,
and to help reduce the pollution caused by waste. Thirdly, companies could change the materials of the
bottles production, into biodegradable materials. At last but not least, the easiest solution is to buy flasks
to refill. This would be really useful, practical and cheap, because you would be buying something that is
going to last for many years, and that would help the planet.
To some up, my point was banning or reducing the use of bottled water would minimize waste and
protect the environment
So as you see, we have lots of solutions, so we need to put them in practice to reduce the use of plastic
bottle water. We must continue fighting to at least reduce the use of water bottles, so in the end we can
ban them forever. To conclude, we think that this motion should stand. Thank you :)
