Summary of the presentation

Iron overload

It is a condition of accumulation of irons in the body, which is also known as hemochromatosis. It

can cause server damage to several organs. Generally, it's caused by genetic predispositions,
excessive diet, or repeated blood transfusions.

It presents various features which are joint pain, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, skin
pigmentation, diabetes mellitus, and potential cardiac complications. It's often related to genetic
mutations which affects the iron metabolisms and regulatory mechanisms. The increasing
absorption of iron occurs from the gastrointestinal tract. Sometimes, it combines withe the
decreased production of hepcidin, which leads to high iron deposits primarily in the liver,
pancreas and heart.

In practice, iron overload can be diagnosed by a comprehensive patient history, physical

examination, and laboratory findings such as elevated transferrin saturation and serum ferritin
levels. Further diagnostic techniques such as liver biopsies and MRI can also be used to
determine liver iron content.

The consequence of the condition can ne quite server, can cause liver cirrhosis, increasing cancer
risk, cardiac issue, and endocrine failures. To manage this condition, therapeutic interventions
such as chelation therapy, routine monitoring, phlebotomy can be fundamental.

My part of the presentation will include
