Question 4 16 marks

(a) Consider the plane region in the first quadrant bounded by the lines y = x, y = 2x and

(b)

(i) Use cylindrical coordinates to find the volume of the solid pictured below, which is bounded
above by one sheet of the hyperboloid z 2 − x2 − y 2 = 1 and below by the cone z =

(ii) Express the volume of this solid as a triple integral in rectangular coordinates. Do not solve
this integral. (7)

(c) The solid in the picture is bounded below by the plane z = 0, on the outside by the sphere

Question 5

curve inward or outward? Give reasons. (4)

(c) Considering a vector field F = P i + Q j + R k, write ∇ × F in terms of P , Q and R. Hence

assuming that all first and second partial derivatives are continuous, show that ∇ · (∇ × F ) = 0.

around C in an anticlockwise direction, as viewed from a point on the positive z-axis looking
toward the origin. (6)

(b) Evaluate the surface integral of the function
