Previous examination papers provide an opportunity for the learner to self-

assess their knowledge of the content for a specific subject. However, please
note that:

• Past examination papers do not constitute a comprehensive overview of

all the work being assessed in a particular academic year.
• Many CAPS changes come in affect from year to year and therefore, it
is not sufficient to cover only the work contained in a particular past
paper.
• The papers provided to learners are either compiled by Impaq in
conjunction with SACAI or supplied to Impaq by SACAI.

For the most comprehensive preparation for any examination, please refer
to the study notes for a particular subject available to download from the
Optimi Learning Portal.

QUESTION 3

3.1 A wall at the local heritage museum has to be renovated by inserting three
designer windows, triangular shaped, square shaped and circular shaped,
and then painting two coats of the same paint on both sides of the renovated
wall. The diagram below shows the renovated wall as well as all relevant
dimensions.

You may use the following formulae when answering the questions that
follow:

Area of a rectangle = Length x Width

Area of a square = Side²

Area of a triangle = ½ base x height of triangle

Area of a circle = 𝜋𝜋 × 𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟²

3.1.1 Verify the total area of the three windows that will be inserted
in the wall as 4,2m². (6)

TERM 3 – TASK 6.2 – PAPER 2

3.1.3 It is estimated that the total area on both sides of the

renovated wall that will be painted is approximately 250m².

Paint is sold in 5 litre and 20 litre containers. The paint covers

6 m² per litre. The museum staff argue that if they buy 5 litre
containers, the number of containers will be four times more
than the number of 20 litre containers purchased.

Use calculations to prove whether their argument is valid. (7)

3.2 The supermarket where Francis bought the baked beans, displays tinned
food on shelves as shown in the diagram on ANNEXURE D. The shelving
unit is made up of 4 equal sized sections. Study the diagram and other
information on ANNEXURE D and answer the following questions:

3.2.1 Determine the outside height of the display shelves in cm. (2)

3.2.2 The inside height of a shelf is 11,023 622 inches.

Determine (rounded to TWO decimal places) the conversion
factor for inside height in the form 1 inch = ….cm. (3)

3.2.3 The store manager states that he will be able to pack 540
canned products, as on ANNEXURE D, in one section of the
display shelf. Use calculations to establish whether the store
manager is CORRECT. (6)

3.2.4 One of the shelves will be stocked with 40 cans of baked

beans, 28 cans of sweetcorn, 18 cans of peas and 22 cans of
tomato relish. The stock is randomly placed trolley bin as
single cans. What is the probability of the rack jobber to next
take a can of peas from the trolley bin to place on the shelf?
