FIELD STUDY 2: EXPERIENCING THE TEACHING –LEARNING PROCESS
Learning Episode # 1 : PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING
My Learning Outcome : I must be able to identify classroom practices that apply or violate the principles of learning.
My performance criteria : I will be rated using scoring rubric attached to my portfolio.
a. Quality of my observations and documentation
b. Completeness and depth of my analysis
c. Depth and clarity of my observation –based reflections

2. Learning is an active process. The students are involved in recitation,

also be relevant to real life as it can be
used to solve individual ages in the
past, present, and future. It is also
used to calculate the speed, distance,
and time of a moving object.

learning is the learner himself. learning is the learner himself, because
when the teacher lets the student solve

lead to learning.

if their answer is wrong. But in this
case, or in my observation, the teacher
does not say any bad words to hurt the
student emotionally if the student
participates and makes a wrong
judgement about the lessons. Instead,
the teacher appreciates their
participation and corrects their
judgement in a nice way.

MY ANALYSIS

1.What principles of learning was/were applied?

Active learning and collaborative learning during class discussion were applied. It was also student-
centered learning when the teacher gave examples of equations for the students to solve on their own. In
these ways, students learn best. The teacher also gives simple tasks or equations to solve, before moving
to more complex tasks or equations to solve. In this way, the student was motivated to answer simpler
tasks all the way to the complex ones.

2. Which principles of learning was least applied? Why was/were the principles not very much
applied? Give instances where this/these principles could have both applied.

From the observations, the principle of collaborative and cooperative learning among the students
was least applied. Students' collaborative and cooperative learning should be emphasized. The teacher
can create a team of students who learn through working together to share ideas, solve problems, and
accomplish a common goal. This can be engaging as the students work together and then learn.

3. How did the application or non-application of the principles affect learning ?

The applications of the principles I cited were really helpful for the students to learn as they provide
a strong foundation for building new knowledge. It also makes the learner interested and engaged in the
lessons being discussed.

When the principles of learning are not applied, the learning process may not be effective. The
students may not absorb the knowledge imparted by the teacher. The learners might also have little
interest in learning.

4. Have you discovered or observed that these /this principle/s is/are not always correct ?or Are
there principles applied by the teacher which are not introduced in this episode?

I think motivating the student before the beginning of the class is not introduced in this episode. It
can be integrated here because individuals learn best when they are physically, mentally, and emotionally
ready to learn, and they do not learn well if they see no reason for learning. Let us give them motivation for
better understanding and learning.

MY REFLECTIONS
I have learned from my observations on the classroom application of the principles of learning.
At the beginning of the class, recap or recall the previous lesson. In math, it is important to have a
recap because the previous lesson will be the basis of the future lessons. It is also important to be goal-
directed. We, as future teachers, need to state our objective as clearly and understandably as possible for
the student to know and focus on what they are going to learn. From my observations in the classroom, I
have learned the importance of active learning as it promotes students' engagement with the content or the
lesson rather than simply listening to it. In this way, the teacher can gauge the knowledge of the students
from time to time. I also learned that a learner-centered approach should be utilized or used, especially in
math where they need to solve and understand equations. The students also experienced experimental
learning as they had to solve problems on their own.

Among those practices that I observed, which practices will I adopt and which ones will I improve on ? What did I learn ?

Among those practices that I observed, I will try to adopt and improve them all as a necessity for a
teacher to have various practices or styles, as we have different students with diverse learning styles. I've
learned the significance of these practices, such as how the teacher should engage the students in
recitation or participation, and let the students experience solving problems on their own and in their own
style, because there are many ways to solve an equation or problem in math. I also learned that a learner-
centered approach is applicable to math as it allows the student to solve problems through
multiple pathways. The teacher also gave many examples for the learners to grasp the topic and the
lesson, which I will also adopt.

My impression of the Learning resource Center

I think the Learning Resource Center benefits the students by enhancing their knowledge. It can also provide an
important learning-opportunity resource necessary to support the educational and school programs of the students,
teachers, faculty, and staff. It consists of a growing collection of books, special projects, and internet facilities like WIFI
and computers. It is also appealing to students, which can be beneficial to learning. It not only attracts the student, but it
also motivates the student to enjoy learning.

MY ANALYSIS

1. Were the learning resources /materials arranged properly according to their functions and
characteristics?

Yes, the learning resources/materials are arranged properly according to their functions and characteristics.
They can be found in the proper places like books, newspapers, and magazines are in a library. Those learning
materials are categorized in a way that they are reading materials. While most ICT resources are placed in the audio-
visual room and some easy-to-access places.

2. Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers? Why? and Why
not?

Yes, I think the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers. Printed resources
in the library like books, and magazines have been there for a long period of time, so the teachers are already
familiarized with facilitating easy access to the materials. A long-time teacher might have a little bit of difficulty with the
ICT resources if it's their first time using them, but eventually, after time of use, they become easy to access for them.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of this Learning resource center?

The main strength of the LRC is that it provides knowledge in the students' learning. It can also be a source of
news and history, like in libraries. LRC can also be a reference for research, assignments, and student reports in class.
Learning resource centers like bulletin boards have a lot of pictures that are posted on the walls, which by themselves
serve as learning materials for the students. It also contains upcoming events, announcements, the mission, and vision
of the school, which are relevant to the students.
.

I think the weakness of the LRC can be seen mostly in the ICT resources, where there is some misleading and
misguided information, or what we call "fake news" or "information." The ICT resources can also be misused. For
example, the student might use the Internet/WIFI for playing games or watching nonsense videos on Facebook or
YouTube.

3. What suggestions can you make /provide?

To avoid the flaw, I mentioned it in question number three. I suggest that the school hire an I.T. specialist that
will work on the school internet or WIFI to block the access of online games and the Facebook app (but not the
Facebook Messenger), if possible, because they can be a distraction to the students.

Page 2
MY REFLECTIONS

1. Which of the materials in the LRC caught your interest the most? Why?

In the LRC, the ICT resources caught my interest, especially the computer, because presently we are studying
online/internet with the use of a computer. Computers improved student performance and provided fast access to
research and information. I think this is the future of learning in the Philippines as it serves the convenience of the
students, especially those who live in faraway places.

2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use /operate?

Computers Since I was in elementary school, we already had a brief study of computers, and then in high school I
chose a TLE subject, which is a computer subject where we use the computer most of the time. Even in college, after
college, in my previous work, and now in my course where I enrolled the methods of teaching, I still use the computer
as a means of studying. That’s why I’m already confident in using it.

3. Which of the materials gadgets do you feel you need to learn more about?

Even though I’m confident in using a computer, I feel that there is still a need to learn more about the computer
and the internet as its updates from then and now. There are always new tools and new ways of teaching that can be
adopted by future teachers to have a variety of ways of teaching.

Gamification in Education and its Examples

Source: https://raccoongang.com/blog/gamification-education-and-its-examples/

Gamification is one of the most popular and preferred trends of learning amongst students, globally. Games help in
situated learning or, to put in simple words, learning that occurs through immersive experiences. After all, what else
could be the best way to educate learners other than putting them to play! In this article we’ll discuss why gamification is
so appealing to learners and provide you with some examples of gamification in real world

I think integrating a game into learning with the use of computers or tablets can engage and attract the
students while learning, especially those in the early grades of education. It goes beyond the traditional way of learning,
as traditional learning tends to be boring. It’s been used by some of the globally competitive countries, so why not here
in the Philippines.
