Finished Size:
4” wide and 9” around or desired length

Yarn:
1 skein Valley Yarns Superwash (100% extrafine merino,
98yds/50g) color Blue Mist

Needles:
US size 7 (4.50mm) needles or size needed to get gauge

Other materials:
One 1”-1½” button

Gauge:
about 5 sts = 1” in stitch pattern

Abbreviations:
k: knit; k2tog: knit 2 together; p: purl; RS/WS: right side /
Turn any mug into a fancy mug whose contents stay warmer, wrong side; ssk: slip 2 sts as if to knit, put tip of left needle
longer with this elegant lace mug cozy. A big, coordinating up into both sts and knit them together; yo: yarn over
button helps keep it snug.

Directions:
Cast on 20 sts and knit 3 rows.

Row 1 (RS): K1, p1, k3, yo, k2, ssk, k5, k2tog, k2, yo, p1, k1.
Row 2 and all WS rows: K2, p16, k2.
Row 3: K1, p1, k4, yo, k2, ssk, k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, p1, k1.
Row 5: K1, p1, k5, yo, k2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k2, p1, k1.
Row 7: K1, p1, yo, k2, ssk, k5, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, p1, k1.
Row 9: K1, p1, k1, yo, k2, ssk, k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k4, p1, k1.
Row 11: K1, p1, k2, yo, k2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k5, p1, k1.
Row 12: As row 2.
Repeat rows 1-12 a total of 5 times or until piece stretches to
fit around mug, ending with a WS row.

Knit 4 rows.
Next row: K10, cast on 10 sts for button loop, k10.
Next row: Knit.
Bind off all sts.
Sew cast on edge to the bind off edge at the corners. Sew on
button. Sew in all loose ends and block lightly if desired.
