A newspaper provides readers with the latest domestic and foreign


updates on social, political, and economic events, most recent discoveries,
and known personalities. Definitely, reading it informs and educates us.

A newspaper has these common parts:


1. GENERAL NEWS SECTION – this provides us with the latest and most
important local and foreign news. The biggest news for the day is called the
banner or headline. It is found on the front page written in big bold letters.

2. LOCAL AND FOREIGN NEWS – Local news tells of happenings in towns,


cities, and provinces in our own country. Foreign news tells the readers
about the current events in other countries.

3. EDITORIAL PAGE – this features important issues or controversies of the


day as interpreted and assessed by the newspaper’s editors and columnists.

4. BUSINESS AND FINANCE PAGE – the economic standing of our country


is reported here, which businesses are booming and which are not. News on
foreign businesses, banking, stocks, and foreign exchange are also featured
here.

5. SPORTS PAGE – this section features news related to sports tournaments


here and abroad and also includes news about known sports personalities.

6. CLASSIFIES ADS – this is a big help to households, businessmen, and


people looking for jobs. Advertisements help promote sales and rentals.
Announcements and warnings are also given to the readers about people
who are no longer connected to a particular firm or institution.

7. HOME AND CULTURE SECTION PAGE – People who are into homecare,
beauty tips, budgeting, menu preparation, family health care, and related
topics may prefer this section.

8. SOCIETY PAGE – important people in society, business, arts, well-known


families, marriage, announcements, baptisms, birthdays, and awards
received are publicized in this portion of the newspaper.

9. TRAVEL AND TOURISM PAGE – descriptions of beautiful pages here in


our country, their amenities and promotions are itemized in this page. This
page may also feature the schedules of departures and arrivals of airplanes,
cruise ships and ferries.

10. ENTERTAINMENT PAGE – Readers who follow news about the lives of
local and foreign celebrities, upcoming movies and those currently showing,
comics and crossword puzzles find them all here.

11. OBITUARY PAGE – this section contains notices on recent deaths


including condolences, schedules of wakes, masses, and interments.
