Teacher Notes
This project was so much fun! When I created this
assignment for my students, I expected nice,
ordinary posters. That’s not what they turned in,
however! I was beyond impressed with the quality of
the posters my students created.

I created this project to reinforce the concept of

taxation without representation and to help students
express the frustration that colonists felt with
Parliament in the 18th Century.

I work in a very high-poverty school, so I provided

construction paper and asked students to create
their posters using materials at school. However,
many students truly went above and beyond to
create their posters, as you will see on the example
page.

I hope you and your students enjoy this project!

“No Taxation without Representation!”
Poster Project
“No taxation without representation!”
Outraged colonists shouted this phrase to
protest the fact that Parliament continually
imposed new taxes without giving colonists a
voice or vote in Parliament.

Your assignment:
Create a poster (on construction paper)
centered around the theme, “No taxation
without representation!”
This phrase must be written prominently (in
big, clear letters) on your poster. You may
draw pictures or write slogans on the rest of
the poster to help demonstrate the outrage
of the colonists with unfair taxation.
