of its many companions, the past history of humanity is spread out in an
imperishable map, just as the history of the mineral earth lies embedded in the
layers of its outer crust. But there is this difference between the record of the rocks

Passage C: Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow. (10p)
In archaeology, as in the physical sciences, new discoveries frequently undermine
accepted findings and give rise to new theories. This trend can be seen in the
reaction to the recent discovery of a set of 3.3-million-year-old fossils in Ethiopia,
the remains of the earliest well-preserved child ever found. The fossilized child
was estimated to be about 3 years old at death, female, and a member of the
Australopithecus afarensis species. The afarensis species, a major human ancestor,
lived in Africa from earlier than 3.7 million to 3 million years ago. "Her
completeness, antiquity and age at death make this find of unprecedented
importance in the history of paleo-anthropology," said Zeresenay Alemseged, a
noted paleo-anthropologist. Other scientists said that the discovery could
reconfigure conceptions about the lives and capacities of these early humans.

Prior to this discovery, it had been thought that the afarensis species had
abandoned the arborcal habitat of their ape cousins. However, while the lower
limbs of this fossil supported findings that afarensis walked upright, its gorilla-like
arms and shoulders suggested that it retained the ability to swing through trees.

about:blank 18/31
09:01 4/7/24 Critical Thinking đề

This has initiated a reexamination of many accepted theories of early human

development. Also, the presence of a hyoid bone, a rarely preserved bone in the
larynx that supports muscles of the throat, has had a tremendous impact on theories
about the origins of speech. The fossil bone is primitive and more similar to that of
apes than to that of humans, but it is the first hyoid found in such an early human-
related species.

(A) provide evidence to qualify the main idea of the first paragraph (B) question
the claims of other scientists
(B) question the claims of other scientist.
(C) provide evidence to support the linguistic abilities of the afarensis species
(D) provide evidence that supports the significance of the find
(E) provide a subjective opinion that is refuted in the second paragraph
3. Each of the following is cited as a factor in the importance of the EXCEPT
C. to document out the rules for certacion

Passage A: Read the passage and answer critical questions that follow

1. What is the issue being addressed?

about:blank 21/31
09:01 4/7/24 Critical Thinking đề

The issue being addressed is the question of when the fourth revolution, or "cách
mạng lần thứ tư," (fourth revolution) started and what symbol represents it.
2. What is the argument in the above message structured of?

The argument in the above message is structured as follows:

Premise 1: The first industrial revolution started with James Watt's steam engine.
Premise 2: The second industrial revolution was marked by Thomas Edison's light
bulb.
Premise 3: The third industrial revolution began with Bill Gates and the advent of
personal computers.
Conclusion: The author is looking for the starting point and symbol of the fourth
revolution.

3. What rhetorical devices are used for the underlined and numbered sentences/
phrases?
Rhetorical devices used in the underlined and numbered sentences/phrases are:
in the Vietnamese IT industry call Hà Đông an "unusual, extraordinary"
phenomenon).
(translation: That revolution, if it exists, probably won't start from the top,
following any specific direction or plan, but rather from unconventional
occurrences from below).

Passage B: Read the following passage and answer the seven questions that follow

about:blank 22/31
09:01 4/7/24 Critical Thinking đề

In the United States, where we have more land than people, it is not at all difficult
persons in good health to make money. In this comparatively new field there are so
many avenues of success open, so many vocations which are not crowded, that any
person either sex who is willing, at least for the time being, to engage in any
respectable for occupation that offers, may find lucrative employment. Those who
really desire to attain of an independence, have only to set their minds upon it, and
adopt the proper means, as they do in regard to any other object which they wish to
accomplish, and the thing is easily done. But however easy it may be found to
make money, I have no doubt many of my hearers will agree it is the most difficult
thing in the world to keep it. The road to wealth is, as Dr. Franklin truly says, "as
plain as the road to the mill." It consists simply in expending less than we earn;
that seems to be a very simple problem. Mr.Micawberone of those happy creations
of the genial Dickens, puts the case in a strong light when he says that to have
annual income of twenty pounds per annum, and spend twenty pounds and
sixpence, is to be the most miserable of men; whereas, to have an income of only
twenty pounds, and spend but nineteen pounds and sixpence is to be the happiest of
mortals. Many of my readers may say, "we understand this: this is economy, and
we know economy is wealth; we know we can't eat our cake and keep it also." Yet
I beg to say that perhaps more cases of failure arise from mistakes on this point
than almost any other. The fact is, many people think they understand economy
when they really do not.

Passage A: Read the passage and answer critical questions that follow.

need for proactive measures.
Passage B: Read the following passage and answer the ucations that follow. Prior
to the nineteenth century, both human and animal populations were limited by the
fine resources (such as food) to which they had access When the enormous
increases in prosperity ushered in by the Industrial Revolution emtially freed many
Western nations from these constraints, scientists of the time expected Mathasim
explosion in population. However, In inverse relationship between prosperity and
reproduction was soon noted, the average size of families fell The trend continues
to this day and has spread to recently industrialized portions of the world.

Early biologists tried to explain the transition to smaller families by drawing

comparisons to the animal world. Animals that have many young tend to live in
hostile, unpredictable environments Since the odds against any given offspring's
survival are high, baving many offspring increases the chance that at least one or
two of them will survival. In contrast, animals that have fewer children but invest
more resources in childrearing tend to live in stable, less bostile environments.
While the young of these "high-investment" species enjoy the benefits of a
relatively safe environment, they need to compete with animals whose young are
equally unlikely to perish early in life. Therefore, the biologists observed, progeny
that have acquired the skills they need to compete while sheltered by a family have
an advantage over their less prepared competitors. By malogy, if people living in a

prosperous environment produced only a few, pampered children, those children

would out compete the progeny of parents who had stretched their resources too
widely

Critics of this theory argue that there are limitations in conflating animal and
human behavior. They argue instead that changes in social attitudes are adequate to
explain this phenomenonTo a family in a society that is tied to the land, a large
number of children is a great boon They increase family income by being put to
work early, and usually some can be persuaded to care for their parents into old
ageAs a society becomes richer, and as physical labor becomes less
importanteducation may extend into the early twenties, making children
economically unattractive as they now consume family assets rather than produce
them. Meanwhile, plans such as pensions and Social Security mitigate the need for
children to care for their parents into their dotage.
1. The primary purpose of the passage is to discuss the transition to smaller
families in human populations and provide explanations for this trend.

On the journey to seek a better world, honesty plays a crucial role. I believe that a
world where people do not lie will be a better world. Honesty has a profound and
significant impact on all aspects of life. In a world where people do not lie, trust
and confidence are built strongly. People can place trust in one another and form

sincere and sustainable relationships (1). Moreover, honesty provides us with a

foundation for fairness and ethics. When people speak the truth, make decisions,
and act based on accurate information, there is no room for injustice or
generalizations. When people refrain from lying, trust and respect in relationships
increase. This fosters stronger bonds and healthier communication between
individuals(2). Honesty creates an atmosphere of transparency and authenticity,
where people feel secure and valued. It promotes integrity and ethical behavior,
leading to a more harmonious and productive society. When honesty prevails,
conflicts arising from deception and mistrust are minimized, allowing for effective
problem-solving and cooperation. Ultimately, a world where people embrace
honesty cultivates a positive and trustworthy environment, enhancing the well-
being and prosperity of individuals and communities alike. Imagine a world where
every word is filled with sincerity and genuine intention(3). Each word is like a
heartfelt smile, a warm embrace, and a soulful encouragement. In that world,
people no longer need to hide their emotions or fear deception. They can freely
share their honest thoughts and open their hearts. It is a peaceful space where
everyone finds tranquility and easily builds trust. Each person's heart is filled with
trust and connection, and relationships are stronger than ever. It is evident that the
world would be a better place if people embraced honesty. When truthfulness
prevails, trust flourishes, and genuine connections are formed. Honesty fosters
transparency, authenticity, and integrity, creating a foundation for a harmonious
and prosperous society. Moreover, a world where people speak the truth allows
individuals to express themselves freely and authentically, fostering a sense of
emotional security and personal growth. It is a world where words hold genuine
meaning, carrying the power to uplift, encourage, and strengthen the bonds
between people. Let us strive for a world where honesty reigns, and in doing so,
