Ideate phase report

4. Ideas generated
Feasible ideas

 Use better connecting devices whereby we improve the frequency and speed.
 Choose a central location as central locations provide the best signal coverage across the entire
building. For two-story structures, if your router or access point is on the first floor, place the
router or access point high on a shelf to provide a stronger signal for devices on the second
floor.
 Long transmission line, the radius of 802.11n standard is up to about 1000m.
 Fast transmission speed. Its transmission speed can be very fast. The speed can reach 600Mbps,
which meets the personal and social needs.
 Compatibility with other services. In and above the second layer of Wi-Fi technology are fully
consistent with the Ethernet.
 Convenient to form the network. Any devices with a wireless network adapter can be easy to
enter the network. Therefore, it is very suitable for mobile requirement and has broad market.
 Security for use. The actual transmission power of IEEE802.11 is only about 60-70mW. In
contrast, the transmission power of cell phone is about 200mW to 1W.The transmitter power of
hand-held interphone is 5W. Wi-Fi technology is absolutely

Wi-Fi positioning technology. With the development of internet of things, Wi-Fi positioning technology
in real-time positioning and tracking of people and goods, environmental monitoring management will
be more widely applied.

Wi-Fi based wireless home network. The computers, televisions, printers, DVD players, digital projectors
and other intelligent devices will be connected by Wi-Fi network to realize the digital and wireless of
home appliances.

Radical ideas

 The most widely used wireless technology, 802.11g (wireless-G) could be one if our solutions,
uses a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) to minimize electromagnetic interference. This
frequency is used by many wireless devices, including garage door openers, microwave ovens,
cordless phones, and baby monitors. Consequently, their signal noise may disrupt the
connection between your router and device.
 Purchase cordless phones and other gadgets that operate on the 5.8 GHz or 900 megahertz
(MHz) frequency to cut down on noise. These higher GHz devices might result in reduced
network interference because 802.11n (wireless-N) uses both the 2.4 GHz and the less common
5.0 GHz frequencies.
 Change the network adapter on your device that is based on a wireless card. Your computer
receives and sends wireless network signals. Generally speaking, devices with integrated
wireless networking have very good antennas. However, there are instances where your device
is unable to transmit signals back to the router, even while the router is able to broadcast to it.
Switch out your card-based wireless network adapter for a USB wireless network adapter with
an external antenna to fix this problem.
 A wireless repeater should be added. A wireless signal can be strengthened from your router to
other floors or the other side of a building by using wireless repeaters, which are convenient
devices that rebroadcast wireless signals. Although you can put one anywhere there is an
outlet, try to find a spot that is midway between your device and your router, modem, or access
point. The performance of your network may be hampered by certain wireless repeaters, which
might be challenging to configure.
 Switch the wireless channel. Multiple channels are available for broadcasting by wireless
routers. Try adjusting the wireless router's channel if you have interference. To do this, open
your web browser and enter the IP address in the address bar to access the router's
configuration page.

Short term goals

 Get your router off the ground. The wireless signals from your network may be interfered with
and weakened by metal objects, walls, and flooring. Find your router to minimize these types of
blockages.
 Change the antenna on your router, typically, router antennas broadcast in all directions,
making them omnidirectional. Therefore, half of your wireless signals are broadcast to the
outside world if you position a router close to an exterior wall. However, a lot of routers have
detachable antennae. You can direct the router's wireless signal in the desired direction by
swapping out the omnidirectional antenna for a high-gain antenna.

Long term goal

• Update the network adapter driver or firmware. Manufacturers of routers frequently provide free
upgrades. The performance of your router may occasionally be improved by these upgrades. Go to the
website of your router's manufacturer to get the most recent firmware upgrades.

 Improving from just Wi-Fi to wireless network adapter and AP.

 Use point to multi point LAN type.
 The software or driver that Windows uses to connect to your network card is also periodically
updated by network adapter suppliers. Reliability and performance may be enhanced by these
updates.
 Purchase equipment from one manufacturer. While routers and network adapters from various
manufacturers can be used together, they may have improved performance if they are all made
by the same manufacturer. These enhancements are beneficial for those utilizing wireless-G
devices to transmit signals over extended distances or residing in older homes with thicker walls
that can impede signal reception.
 When purchasing new equipment, make sure to upgrade older devices from 802.11a, 802.11b,
and 802.11g to the faster 802.11n technology. Even though wireless-G is popular, wireless-N is
at least twice as fast. It also provides improved range and stability. Wireless-N is able to work
with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g, so you can continue using your existing wireless devices.
You won't notice significant performance enhancements until you upgrade to a wireless-N
device or network adapter.

We generated the ideas in correspondence to the fact that the ideas brought certain level of innovation,
creativity and effectiveness when we talk about Wi-Fi connection. In the other phases we have seen this
number 802.11, it would be different for every wireless connection device, what it exactly tells us is the
speed, reliability of that network.

6. Reflection on the ideate phase

The ideation process brought the inner creativity into life, as we had to share all and any ideas we had
no matter the importance. We also had to question ourselves how much is the Wi-Fi crucial to our lives.
We had quite a few challenges as we were brainstorming all the ideas for instance we would mention
ideas but they would be out of our range in terms of practicality.

7. Conclusion
This phase was more of discussion where we had to brainstorm many ideas, of cause they were all
viable and they all had assured success. But we had to rank all the ideas generated from least to greatest
regarding effectivity. The next phase is the prototype phase where we have to build the idea into reality
like in the form of a model and show exactly how it will be applicable to the problem we have. We had
to generate ideas in reference to the Empathize phase and Define phase with the ideas that any wireless
network sometimes slow down or temporarily break down. This poor performance impacts our
productivity. In the next phase we aim to create model or choose one ideas that have few demerits and
bring it into existence.
