Part 1 opening

Hello everyone. Welcome back again. We’re going to continue our learning to the second units. at this
unit, we're going to practice speaking about personal life. We’re going to talk about our daily routines;
what we do in daily basis at home, at school, at work, or even activity in a special occasion. Compared to
the previous meeting, our topic today, especially for speaking practices is a bit harder because you will
make longer sentences and you have to tell about yourself especially about your daily routines. You will
describe it, so you have to make longer sentences. that's the difference between today's topic and the
previous one. Therefore, before we continue, I do hope that you have sufficient vocabulary because
without which you won't be able describe or tell about your daily routine.it requires specific words
related to it; For example making bed, waking up and other expression commonly used when we talk
about this topic. Yes, in the next section of this unit you will find out more expressions related to
personal life or daily routines. Moreover, I would like to emphasize once again, to make you aware that
having as many as vocabulary is absolutely crucial. Another important aspect that you need to have is
your ability to make understandable sentences. At the previous meeting I have told you that your ability
to use proper bahasa Indonesia might determine your success in learning English. Proper bahasa
indonesia means that the sentence consist of subject and predicate. Okay, I will explain you about this
one more completely and more detailed so that you know what you have to do when making sentences
in English. Also it will ease you and reduce your burden to learn English grammar. Ok, let get started.

Part 2

as I told you many many times that English Indonesia has the same structure in term of how the
sentence is a arranged. noth languages are arranged by subject and a predicate. however the difference
is we are Indonesian inconsistently use this patern in our day to day Communications when we speak
bhs indonesia we rarely use proper bhs indonesia that consists of a subject and a predicate. that's the
difference with the English or the first speakers of English. they quite consistently use this pattern in
day-to-day Communications, Even in an informal Communications. So, that's the difference and actually
this habit make us difficult to learn English because we don't get used to using or making sentences with
that pattern. however if you do so it will reduce your burden to learn English grammar up to 60% I can
say here. okay now I will explain you a bit about it because it is really important for communication
purposes because you do not need to learn complicated English grammar what you need here is how to
make understandable sentences. alright, look at this one. Subject and predicate when we are speaking
we normally will make four types of sentence the first is positive negative interrogative and imperative
but for this one I just want to explain how to make positive negative and interrogative because basically
the structure of imperative sentence both English and bus and bhs Indonesia is the same.

Have a look at this example. (my family always have breakfast together at home) so the sentence has
consisted of subject and predicate family is the subject and have breakfast in the predicate. okay it's
quite easy isn’t it? now we go to negative sentence have a look at this one (I don't normally go home
late after work) you can see there that the word (not) is accompanied by auxiliary do. that's how English
grammar work. that is different from bhs indonesia but don't worry although you incorrectly use this the
auxiliary ,it is no problem at all. for example when you change the word do there into I'm not. your
sentence can still be understood or even when you do not put any axillary or to be there, your sentence
can still be understood. for example I'm not normally go home later after work another example I not
normally go home late after work. both sentences are grammatically incorrect. But it's still okay. it can
still be understood. so never worry too much about it. as I told you in the first unit so never afraid of
making mistakes okay so it's a part of learning process okay. do you got it? right good if you can do so.
now we go to interrogative sentence.
actually English and Indonesian language have similar patterns to make interrogative sentences. there
are two types of interrogative sentence the first is interrogative sentence that only need yes or no
answer. in Bahasa Indonesia it begins with a question word “apakah” what about in English? English
does not have the word that literally means apakah. can you look at on the screen we need axillary to
say apakah in English. at this example it needs “do” to make it means “apakah”. another example : are
you okay? The translation of sentence is apakah kamu baik baik saja? literally there is no word that
means apakah. the grammatical structures by putting tobe are at the beginning of the sentence that
makes sentence means apakh so literally English does not have words that means apakah. so if you want
to make apakah in English you can use auxiliary or to be for example do, does is, are in the beginning of
the sentence. when do you think it is too complicated to do so. when you think it's too difficult for you
to do so just forget it. Just make a positive sentence. but you just need to change your intonation. For
example: you can read the sentence on the screen “do you fancy joining us to the cinema?” that is the
correct one that is grammatically correct. now I will omit the words do there I will not use auxiliary you
fancy joining us to the cinema? the second sentence although grammatically is incorrect it can still be
understood. all you have to do is just to change the intonations the intonations to make the sentence.
okay can you understand it? good let's go to the second types of interrogative sentence the second
types is an interrogative sentence is preceded or begin with question words 5w 1H. have a look at the
example of screen how do you get there? so the correct structure or grammar in English is to put
auxiliary after the question word. Have a look at that! Maybe just maybe for some of you it is too
difficult, it is to complicated. Alright you do not need to be grammatically correct but all you need here is
to arrange the sentence question would a subject and a predicate. Forget about everything forget about
auxiliary forget about to be. Just arrange the sentence that's good subject and predicate okay. let's try
it! How do you get? There that is grammatically correct. Now I will omit auxiliary do to become become
how you get there? Wherever you go around the world, everybody will understand what you mean
okay. Don’t worry about it. As long as you can arrange the sentence with a subject and a predicate,
finish. It is easy, isn't it? So once again in speaking never worry too much about grammar, okay. Please
keep them in mind okay. Especially for you who are still in elementary level do not focus too much on
Grammar.

Part 3

Now let’s get to the topic. There will be three types of practices all of which will be listening based
practice. But for you who find it difficult to understand the speakers, don’t worry there is a transcript of
all the practice you can review. But, please, go to review the transcript only if you really find it difficult
after trying to listen to it many times. Because you need to be familiar with utterances spoken by others,
especially by native speakers.

As usual, we will begin the topic by watching a video. In the video, you will watch how a girl tells her
daily activity. And later on you will have to make similar practice. Pay attention to the words and
expressions she uses in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L31ExXwlsVc&t=50s

Can you understand the whole part of the video?

Good if you can

But for you find it hard as usual I’ll help you to understand it. Let’s play the video again with a subtitle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L31ExXwlsVc&t=50s

Ok now please make similar video. And submit it

Part 4

At the previous section, you have practiced telling your typical days. At this section you will have
another practice. This section will allow you to experience more communicative practice because it
requires not only your speaking ability but also your understanding others’ utterances. Here, you will
have to answer some questions. But the questions will be posed orally. So you will hear an audio that
ask you questions and you answer the questions orally. There will be 3 parts of this sort of practice
starting from the easiest one then progress to the more difficult one so that you have learning
experience that will expose you to different levels of difficulty as if you are facing the real
communication.

Let’s start the first one. At this part you will hear the whole part of a dialogue between a man and a
woman. And then after that, you will be acting as the man. You do not have to answer exactly the same
as audio example. You can make your own answer, instead. OK, please listen carefully!

(AUDIO)

Do you finish listening to the whole part?

Right. Now please act it out! You play the part to answer the questions from the woman.

Part 5

At this part of practice, it will allow you to explore your communication skill further. This practice
requires you to make slightly longer sentences. If o you think the questions requires short sentence,
please make it a bit longer by adding some additional information that is still relevant to the question.
Again, I would like to remind you to arrange your sentences in subject and predicate pattern. In your
level of English, it is enormously important for your success to master spoken English.

Now, I’ll give you an example how to do this practice.

Who do you live with?

Well, because I am a junior high school student, I still live with my parents. Anyway, I have one older
brother and one younger sister. My younger sister also lives with us. She is 10 years old, an elementary
school student. But my older brother does not live with us at the moment. He is studying in a university.
So he lives alone in boarding house near the campus. He goes home during the holiday.

You see the example I’ve given you. I do not only answer the question but I also give additional
information still relevant to the question.

Ok now is your turn, please listen carefully and answer it extensively.

(AUDIO)

Part 6

So, what do you think? Can you do it well?

Great

Now, we’ll have the last practice of this unit. At this practice you are going to listen to a dialogue
between a man and a woman. Please listen carefully to what they are talking about. After you have
finish listening the dialogue, please retell the dialogue orally. To help you do so, there are some
questions you can refer to, to guide you retell the dialogue. You can use the answers of the questions to
guide you retell the dialogue.

Right, are you ready? Please listen to the dialogue very carefully and retell it for your speaking practice.

Who are the speakers in the dialogue?

What does the man do?

Where does the dialogue take place?

Does the woman go to drink after work?

What does the woman do in the evening?

Does she sometimes eat out?

What does she do in the weekend?

Does she go to concert?

Does she accept the man’s invitation? Why or why not?

Ok that is the end of this unit. Hopefully you find it useful to help you master spoken English.
Remember! As I told you in the first unit to do a lot of practices because it is enormously important. You
can review this unit over and over again or you can make self-practice.

Ok thank you very much and see you again in the 3rd unit.
