When I was fourteen, I went on a school trip to Sicily. There were three teachers and thirty
students. Sicily is the island at the foot of Italy. People say Sicily is the football that Italy
is kicking. It is a very beautiful island. When we went, it was summer and the weather was
lovely. The food was delicious. There are many interesting towns in Sicily. Our first stop was
in Agrigento. In Agrigento, you can see Mount Etna in the background. Mount Etna is a
volcano. One night, we were in the main square in town. We were laughing and having a great
time. I was beside my best friend, Sarah. It was getting dark. Suddenly, we heard loud
noises. Then we saw bright, flashing lights in the sky. We froze. We were terrified. We
thought the volcano was erupting. We screamed. Our teacher turned round and told us not to
be silly. It was fireworks! The rest of the group laughed at us and we felt very silly.
