Question 5 (5 marks) [1 mark each]

Read the short story and answer the following questions.

The Little Prince

When I was six years old, I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called ‘True Stories
from Nature’. It was a picture of a boa constrictor swallowing an animal. Here is
a copy of the drawing:

In the book it said: “Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing
it. After that they are not able to move, and they sleep for six months to digest

28
their prey.”

I thought deeply about the adventures of the jungle. And after some work with
a coloured pencil, I succeeded in making my first drawing. It looked something
like this:

I showed my drawing to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing
frightened them. But they answered: “Frighten? Why should any one be
frightened by a hat?”

My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor

digesting an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I
made another drawing. I drew the inside of a boa constrictor, so that the grown-
ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained.

Monday 10th January 2022

Dear Diary,
Today it was my first day at school. I was happy to join Star
Secondary School. My classmates are very friendly especially Ali who
sits next to me. My Form teacher, Miss Kamini, is really kind and
helpful. However, as I don’t like Maths, I didn’t like the class of the
Maths teacher – Mr. Wesley. He has already given a lot of homework!
But I’m sure I will enjoy my school days there.

Dear Diary,
Today I really enjoyed my day at school. I met my Music teacher, Miss
Wendy, for the first time. She took the class to the Music Room
where she showed us the instruments. She also played my favourite
instrument- the guitar. I was excited and I’m sure I will do well in
this subject.
