CIRCUIT SOLVING(PATHFINDER)

1. Determine the reading of the ideal ammeter in the circuit shown. (Ideal ammeter has zero resistance and it
measures current)

1. 1.5 A
2. An actual battery can be represented as a constant voltage source connected in series with a resistor, known
as internal resistance. When three identical actual batteries A, B and C are connected as shown in figure-I,
the current in the circuit is 3.0 A. If the batteries were connected as shown in the figure-II, what would be the
current through each battery?

2. IA = 2.0 A, IB = 4.0 A and IC = 2.0 A

3. In the figure is shown a part of a larger network. Values of the resistors are indicated in the figure and
both the ammeters are ideal ammeters. If the ammeter A 1 reads 1.0 A, find reading of the ammeter A 2.

3. 2.0 A
4. Twelve resistances are arranged along the edges of a cube and electrically connected only at the corners
of the cube. Find equivalent resistance between the corners A and F.

4. 8/3

5. Determine the equivalent resistance of the network shown between terminals A and B.
5. 3 ohms

6. The circuit shown consists of an ideal battery, three resistors, and two ideal ammeters. The ammeters read 0.2
A and 0.3 A. After two of the resistors are interchanged, the readings of the ammeters did not change. Find
the battery current.

6. If fi = ft, we obtain the battery current is I = 0.35 A. If B, = It, we obtain the battery current is I = 0.4 A.
7. In the given network, the ammeters A1 A2 and A3 are identical and internal resistance of the battery and internal
resistances of the ammeters are much smaller than the resistors shown. Find the readings of all the ammeters.

7. 0.2 mA, 0.1 mA and 0.3 mA

8. In the well-known cube network, each edge contains a 12 Ω resistor and along each face diagonal additional
12 Ω resistors are also connected. These resistors are only connected electrically at the corner of the cube.
For the sake of readability, in figure are shown few of these branches without resistances. Find equivalent
resistance between the corners A and F.

8. 3.5Ω
9. In the infinite hexagonal grid, resistance of each branch is R. Determine the electrical resistance of the circuit
between the terminal pairs A-B and A-C.
9. RAB=2R/3 RAC=R
10. Find the resistance of the following infinite networks measured between the terminals A and B .

10. Figure-I: RAB 

11. Find the equivalent resistance of the infinite ladder network between the terminals A and B.

11. RAB  R 1   5 
12. The network shown consists of infinitely large number of identical sections. Resistance of each branch is
R. Find the resistance between the terminals A and B.

Hint: All the nodes on the lines CD and EF are at the same potential that is arithmetic mean
of the potentials of the nodes A and B.

13. In an infinite grid of square cells made of conducting wires, the resistance of an edge of a square cell is R. In
the figure, point Cis midpoint of the edge AB. Find resistance of the entire grid as measured between the
terminal pairs A-B and A- C.

13. RAB = R/2 , RAC = 3R/8
