II. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is design to provide a comprehensive introduction to essential English


language skills needed for effective everyday communication. Therefore, the teacher
expects students to progress from a beginner level to A1 English proficiency level
according to the Common European Framework by the end of the course. By exploring
the three units, students will develop practical language ability needed in social
interaction. In addition, this course will promote the development of the
communicative competence by developing the four macro skills: listening, speaking,
reading and writing. Besides, the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation subskill will
be promoted in the classes to make sure effective communication is achieved. Every
week, the professor will upload all the materials needed in the course. For example:
the digital units, the audios, and the different videos for students to work.

III. OBJECTIVES
General:

1. By the end of this curse the student will be able to exchange personal information.
2. By the end of the curse the student will be able to ask for and talking about daily
schedules.
3. By the end of this curse the student will be able to make comparisons, buying and
selling things.

Specific:

UNIT 1.

• At the end of this unit, student will be able to ask about someone.
• At the end of this unit, student will be able to introduce themselves.
• Al the end of this unit, student will be able to write Yes/No question and short
answers with “BE”.
• At the end of this unit, students will be able to use subject pronouns and possessive
adjectives in a sentence.

UNIT 2.

• At the end of this unit student will be able to describe work and school.
• At the end of this unit, the student will be able to talk about daily schedules.
• At the end of this unit, student will be able to write Simple Present with WH
questions.
• At the end of this unit, student will be able to identify possessive adjectives.
UNIT 3.

• At the end of this unit, students will be able to give opinion and talking about prizes.
• At the end of this unit, students will be able to buy and sell things.
• At the end of this unit, students will be able to write questions with “How much”
and “Which”.
• At the end of this unit, students will be able to use demonstratives: this, that, these,
those, one, ones.

IV. METHODOLOGY

There will be two modes in which this course will be carried out during the semester: face-
to-face classes and online video conferences. The primary focus will be on face-to-face
classes conducted three times a week. In addition to these in-persons classes, there will be
synchronous videos conferences twice a week in google meets (video conference link)
where the students will participate in different activities and receive feedback to support
their learning. Moreover, deferent online resources and sites may be used in the online
sections. There will be also asynchronous activities, in which students will do exercises to
practice vocabulary and grammar; therefore, Google Classroom will be used as the main
and official tool to support most of the academic activities this course requires, so students
will be required to receive and send assignments through google classroom using their
institutional email in the following link (classroom link). It is mandatory that student must
follow the course contents and the teacher’s academy activities in the online sections by
connecting or assisting in face-to-face classes and developing the academic tasks proposed
by the teacher in class time.
During the classes, a variety of interactive and engaging activities will be conducted,
including group discussion, role- playing exercises to enhance language practice and
comprehension. At the end of the course, students will be evaluated through a written and
oral exam. Rubrics will be used to assign final grades. These rubrics will be shared with
students so that they know the points to be evaluated.

VI. ASSESSMENT

Summative, formal assessment (written exams and an oral assignment) will be used to
evaluate the student's progress in the course. The assessments will be carried out in person
and online in a synchronous mode.

The assessments that will be administered will be carried out during class time, so the student
must ensure that he or she is available at that time. Likewise, valid proof (video or screenshot
with date and time) must be provided in case of connectivity problems.

In short, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that he or she will be able to take the
assessment on the established date and time.

VII. CLASS POLICIES


1. Class participation and attendance: Active participation and attendance is mandatory.
Attendance will be taken in virtual and face to face classes. Attendance in virtual classes
will be taken by connecting to the class platform during the time assigned to live
sessions. In face-to-face classes, it will be taken by being present in the assigned
classroom.

2. Course Materials: Students must download all the material that the teachers provide
and have it ready for class time.

3. Class Time: students are required to join online sessions on time. Attendance will be
taken, and Google Meet report will be used to corroborate it. Class hours will be
respected. Students are required to access the class on the scheduled days.

4. Missed Evaluations: Requests presenting a genuine justification for each evaluation

5. Class Rules: Students must respect and practice all class rules and opinions of others.

6. Assignment Due Dates: Students must turn in their assignments on the due dates.
Excuses are accepted only if natural events (force majeure) prevent the students from
turning them in on time. Presenting evidence is mandatory.
