REVISION HISTORY
Use this document for console versions TXDTC V5.12.2 and higher.
1 INTRODUCTION
This manual contains all the information needed to configure and calibrate the MS-
350…1050 HF X-ray generators. The readership of this document (service technicians)
should have a good understanding of the operation of diagnostic X-ray equipment and
systems in general.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
Configuration: Setting various (e.g. interface I/O) options of the generators to fit
the system to a specific application.
Calibration: Adjusting certain components of the system to allow accurate
and correct operation (e.g. X-ray tube, AEC channels).
User or Normal Normal operating mode of the console, where the technician
Mode: uses the APR and the manual controls to make radiographic or
fluoroscopic exposures.
Service Mode: Special operating mode for configuration and calibration
purposes. Only qualified and authorized personnel may operate
the generator in this mode.
Fluoro Calibration Special operating mode for fluoroscopic calibration purposes
Mode: with the radiographic exposures disabled. Only qualified and
authorized personnel may operate the generator in this mode.
Service Options: Options that are available from the main menu of the Service
Mode (when you are prompted Select Option:). Each
option performs a single dedicated configuration or calibration
task.
Transfer Utility Service utility to upload data from the console, edit and modify
APR techniques, add user defined X-ray tube to the
preprogrammed selection, print APR report and download data
to the console.
Display messages and prompts appear in Bold Monospaced type. Keys are
represented by the corresponding icon, e.g. . Please note that these icons for some
keys are different from the actual physical appearance of the key.
At the factory, the X-ray generator is configured and calibrated for its specific use in
conformance with the purchase order.
Depending on the system being shipped, you may need to perform the following tasks
during installation:
After powering the generator up in Service Mode, the Password: prompt should appear
on the APR display. The console is now waiting for the password, a four-digit numeric
code. The code is to be entered using the numeric APR keys. You can find the password on
the first page of this document. The Service Mode is password protected to provide only
authorized access and prevent inadvertent changes to system parameters.
After entering the password, Select Option: appears on the APR display. Enter the
two-digit access number (00-99) for the following options using the numeric APR keys.
Note that not all the numbers 00 through 99 are used. The following are available:
If you change X-ray tube to a different type, use these options to chose a tube type from
the predefined types or if your tube is not among the offered selections then you have the
opportunity to transfer the load limit of two more tube types (‘USER1’ and ‘USER2’).
Selecting a new tube type will change the tube load limit (tube protection) data, and you
must select the tube before tube calibration. Option #11 selects tube #1, Option #12
selects tube #2 in two-tube systems. For single-tube generators, Option #12 is not offered.
1. Select option #11 (or #12, for tube #2) from the main menu.
2. 11:Select Tube#1 should appear on the APR display. The currently selected X-ray
tube type is shown on the RADIOGRAPHIC display.
3. Use the and keys to select the X-ray tube type of your choice. The ‘User1’
and ‘User2’ types are not predefined tubes, new tube load data can be downloaded
via the serial port (see Data Transfer section).
4. When finished, use to return to the main menu. If you made any changes,
the console prompts you to save changes. Press to save changes, to
discard them.
5. You have an option to clear the calibration data when changing the X-ray tube at the
Clear Cal Data? Prompt. In most cases, you answer yes by pressing . After
clearing the previous calibration data, you MUST calibrate the tube (the console will
not allow to make exposures with uncalibrated tube).
Changing the X-ray tube type will override the tube protection (load
limit) data and the current preparation time (anode rotation boost)
CAUTION! setting.
The anode rotation test may be used to check the rotational function of the anode
without generating X-ray, and more importantly, to set the ideal preparation time for the
X-ray tube.
3. The power supply is turned on. GEN NOT READY message may appear for a few
seconds, indicating that the main contactor relay is not energized yet.
4. If the generator is a two-tube unit, you are prompted to select tube #1 or #2. Use
numeric APR keys and to make a selection.
5. Press PREP btn prompt appears on the APR display. The RAD display will display
the current boost (preparation) time.
6. You can use the and the buttons to manually change the boost time.
7. Press the preparation button until you get a PREPARATION RDY or a ROTOR ERROR
message. If any other error message appears (e.g. TUBE TOO HOT), first you have to
solve the problem or satisfy the interlock.
8. If PREPARATION RDY message appeared (rotor running), the minimum preparation
time is calculated and displayed. If ROTOR ERROR message appears, the preparation
time is automatically increased by 0.2 seconds and you can try again with this new
value.
9. Repeat this adjustment (manual and/or auto) until you get the proper preparation
time.
10. When finished, use to return to the main menu. If you made any changes,
the console prompts you to save changes. Press to save changes, to
discard them.
Note: V5.1.6 and earlier versions reported false (too short) minimum preparation time when
using with CPI Indico power supply. The shortest preparation time accepted is now 1.5
second.
In certain cases (e.g. for high filament current tubes), it may be necessary to modify the
active filament standby current (ASFC). The ASFC is used to preheat the selected focal spot
between exposures.
For high filament tubes, the high filament current consol software must
be used. Please contact the factory for further info or if you plan to use
CAUTION! the generator with tubes requiring more than 6A filament current.
1. Select option #14 (or #15 for tube #2) from the main menu.
2. The active standby filament current is displayed (in Amperes).
3. You can use the and the buttons to change the standby filament
current between 1.5A and 3.5A. The software automatically compensates for the
filament range of the power supply (6A or 8A).
4. When finished, use to return to the main menu. If you made any
changes, the console prompts you to save changes. Press to save changes,
to discard them.
Notes:
• The same ACFC value is saved for both the small and large focal spot.
• The passive standby filament current values remain unaffected (for unselected focal
spot – two-filament board generators only).
• Standby filament values are reset to preprogrammed default values every time you
change the tube selection (#11 or #12). For custom values, it is necessary to change
these values each time after selecting a different tube type.
The basic interface parameters can be changed for each configured examination device. If
you need to change other parameters (tube assignment, install new device, assign fluoro
device, etc.), please contact the manufacturer.
• Installed (Yes or No): Specifies whether the device is installed (used). For general
rad rooms, enable the Table and Wall device only. For RF and and linear
tomography systems enable the respective device. Setting other parameters is not
possible for a disabled device. (Requires Master Password.)
• Tube (#1 or #2): Assign Xray tube (workstation) to the device. Make sure Tube #2
is NOT assigned to any device on a single-tube generator. (Requires Master
Password.)
• Fluoro (Yes or No): Enables the fluoro operating mode when the device is
selected. Usually enabled only for the RF device – if applicable. (Requires Master
Password.)
• High Speed (Yes or No): Enables the use of high speed transfer for the device.
Only for generators equipped with high speed starter and HS capable X-ray tube.
Please note this setting MUST correspond the X-ray tube setting in two-tube
systems (the HS capability is a property of the tube, not the device). (Requires
Master Password.)
• Console (Enable or Disable): Enables or disables the prep/exposure keys on the
console. If enabled, exposures can only be taken from the console or external
exposure switch connected to the console. If disabled, exposures can only be
taken from the examination device (e.g. spot film device).
• Bucky (Yes or No): Specifies if a Bucky is installed with this examination device.
You can enable Bucky operation if a Bucky is installed later in the system.
• Bucky Start (EXP or PREP): The Bucky can be started at the beginning of the PREP
or the EXP cycle. Usual setting is EXP – use PREP start for slow Buckys or special
devices treated as Buckys. (Requires Master Password.)
• Bucky Start Always (Yes or No): To force Bucky movement regardless of the
Bucky setting in user mode, set this option to YES. Usual setting is NO. (Requires
Master Password.)
• Bucky Switch Enable (Disable or Enable): The Bucky key may be disabled on the
operator’s console. Used with the Bucky Start Always option. (Requires Master
Password.)
• Bucky LED On (Normal or Always): Set this option to ALWAYS when the Bucky
start is forced. Usual setting is NORMAL. (Requires Master Password.)
• AEC (Yes or No): Specifies if AEC is installed with this examination device. You can
enable AEC operation if an AEC chamber is installed later in the system.
• Tomo (Yes or No): Enable or disable tomographic operating mode for the
examination device.
• Timed Tomo (Yes or No): Enables or disables timed tomo exposure mode for a
tomographic device. Has no effect if the Tomo parameter is set to NO. With the
Timed Tom enabled, the generator will terminate the exposures, regardless of the
position of the X-Ray tube / film. With Timed Tomo set to NO, the tomographic
table has to terminate the exposure.
• Rapid mode (Yes or No): Enables or disables rapid exposure series mode. Only for
spot film device.
4. When finished with the current examination device and there are more devices
configured, you can change to another device pressing the corresponding Technique
button. If you made any changes, the console will prompt you if you want to save the
changes. Press to save changes, to discard them.
5. When finished with all the examination devices, use to return to the main
menu. If you made any changes, the console prompts you to save changes. Press
to save changes, to discard them.
This option does not have any effect if the fluoroscopic option is not installed to the
generator. For an R&F generator, use this option to set the basic fluoroscopic parameters.
Sets the film speeds the technicians will use for high speed, medium speed and detailed
film/screen combinations. These setting will affect the APR parameter compensation
when a film speed other than the default is selected for an APR.
Use the closest value the desired speed is not listed here. The value for the H type
cannot be lower than that of the M type. Similarly, the value for the M type cannot be
lower than that of the D type. However, H and M, M and H or all three types can be set
to the same speed if needed.
4. Use to return to the main menu. If you made any changes, the console
prompts you to save them. Press to save changes, to discard them.
You can set 8 different tomographic exposure backup times using option 24. (four tomo
angles, two different column speeds for each). The tomo backup times are detected and
used if a device has been set to Timed Tomo operation (see option 21). Note that in timed
tomo mode the tomographic device will terminate the exposure, the generator only
provides an automatically detected safety backup time. Make sure the backup times
correspond those of the tomo device. Add 5-20% to each backup time, e.g. 500ms for a
0.4s tomo time and 4200ms for a 4s setting.
1. Select option #23 from the main menu and using the keys select the
appropriate tomo angle and speed.
2. Use the keys to set the exposure backup time between 400 and 5000
msec.
3. Use to return to the main menu. If you made any changes, the console
prompts you to save them. Press to save changes, to discard them.
Due to that fact this generator is used in so many geographical area where the relative
patient size correction (thin, corpulent) is diverse, an overall adjustment may be
necessary. This option allows the user to set up the modification percentage between the
normal size and the thin and corpulent patience.
1. Select option #25 from the main menu and using the keys to select the
appropriate percentage
2. Use to return to the main menu. If you made any changes, the console
prompts you to save them. Press to save changes, to discard them.
There are two methods available for selecting APRs: either entering the APR number as a
two-digit numerical value or scrolling through the available APRs in each body region by
pressing the same button several ties.
1. Select option #28 from the main menu. The console will toggle the APR select
mode. The new setting will be displayed on the RAD display.
2. After about 1 second, the console automatically returns to the main menu.
1. Select option #29 from the main menu. The console will change the current setting
from enabled to disabled or from disabled to enabled. The new setting will be
displayed on the RAD display.
2. After about 1 second, the console automatically returns to the main menu.
5 CALIBRATION
Before performing any calibration procedure, make sure that the proper
X-ray tube is selected and the generator is properly configured.
CAUTION!
Perform the radiographic tube calibration procedure each time you install a new X-ray
tube or the anode current is inaccurate (e.g. tube aging). Please note that the exposures
during the calibration process will check for all errors and interlocks. Also, the tube load
limits will be observed, just like in normal user operating mode.
During calibration, you will be prompted to make several short exposures (typically about
20 for each focal spots). The parameters of the exposures (kV and filament code) are
automatically set based upon the measurements of the previous exposure. However, you
may change the filament code before the exposures and exit the calibration by pressing
the key at any time.
9. The first exposure will most likely give low mA. The next few exposures will be taken to
find the lowest mA range on the current focal spot. From that on, the software will set
the exposure parameters so that the whole mA range is calibrated.
10. When reaching the mA limit, the console will go to the next kV step. The tube is
calibrated on 40, 50, 80 and 120 kV. Again, exposures are taken to cover the whole mA
range.
11. After the last exposure on 120kV, CALCULATING… message will appear on the RAD
display. This message will be blinking while the console calculates the calibration data
(typically 30 seconds). Then the power supply is shut down and you return to the main
menu.
12. If any errors occur during exposure, a message will be displayed on the APR display.
Some errors will terminate the calibration procedure and you will need to restart it.
13. You may press the key at any time to exit form the calibration. Note that the
focal spot will be considered uncalibrated when interrupting the calibration
procedure.
14. Perform (1) through (11) for each X-ray tube (if applicable) and each focal spot.
Beginning with software version 4.11, the desktop console performs fluoroscopy based on
a fluoroscopic filament current table, which is set up during installation. This procedure is
called fluoroscopic filament calibration.
Before proceeding with fluoroscopic filament calibration, you must properly set up
fluoroscopic current (mA) and voltage (kV) limits in section 11.5 Fluoroscopic
Configuration. The fluoroscopic calibration cannot be performed unless there is at least
one device configured for fluoro operation.
Make sure that the FLUORO DIP switch is ON in the desktop console. Also, the fluoro
remote has to be connected, unless using a ‘wide‘ console, which includes the
fluoroscopic controls.
The ABS function is performed by the console software. The brightness signal from either
sources is converted to a 0 to 10V DC signal, which enters the CPU board (TXCTR board).
Finally it becomes a 0 to 4 VDC signal directly read and converted to digital by the
microcontroller itself. The ABS regulation takes a reference that corresponds to 2 V at
TP13.
The only adjustment that is necessary is to set the voltage level of the brightness signal.
Turn ABS off, set 80 kVp, 1.0 mA and normal magnification. Put an X-ray phantom
equivalent to 15 to 20 cm water in to the radiation field and start fluoroscopy.
Observe the video signal or the PMT signal with an oscilloscope and adjust the mA value
until the the brightness portion of the video signal is at 0.4 V or the PMT signal is at 5.7 V. If
this cannot be achieved, change the aperture (iris) of the camera. This may also be
necessary if the dose rate is too high for local regulations.
Maintaining these kVp and mA values measure the voltage at TP13 on the TXCTR board.
Adjust P9 on the fluoroscopic interface board (TXFIF) so that this reads 2 V.
The TXABS1 card can handle both video and camera ABS signals. The purpose of this card
is an advanced signal handling.
You can follow this procedure for both normal and high resolution cameras.
1. Connect the video signal cable to the TXFIF1 board. You should place the jumper
called "75 ohm" if you don't connect a cable to the "video out" connector of the card.
2. If you use high resolution camera, put a jumper on JP5. In case of use a normal
resolution camera, remove it.
3. Put a jumper on JP2 and set up the dominant field to the center of the image area.
Choose a 40 % image size for the square. You can use the following potentiometers:
• P6: square left upper corner, X coordinate
• P7: square left upper corner, Y coordinate
• P4: square X width
• P5: square Y height
5. Connect the scope probe to the J10 test point. Set here 820-830mV using the P2
potentiometer. Use the AGND test point of the TXFIF1 board for grounding.
*** from this step the setup procedure is the same for each operating mode.
6. Connect the scope probe to the J12 test point. If the voltage is higher than 150mV,
reduce it to 100-120mV using P1 potentiometer.
7. Turn off the ABS on the fluoro remote and set a good quality picture manually.
8. Connect the scope probe to the ABS.FEEDBACK (TP13) test point on the TXCTR3 card
(scope ground to AGDN on the TXCTR3). Using P1 potentiometer set here 2V with the
previous kV-mA values. You must pay attention that the signal falls fast to zero if there
is no X-ray. You should repeat this operation until you reach the desired value. If the
setup is correct, the signal rises from 0V to 1.7V within 200msec. If the time value is too
high, reduce it using the P3 potentiometer.
ATTENTION: If the P3 value is too low, it causes swinging in the ABS circuit.
9. Press the ABS button on the remote and check the proper operation.
This setup procedure describes three different camera signals: a Thomson integrated
image amplifier with CCD camera, an Apelem type CRM86 normal resolution camera and
Apelem type CRM92 high resolution camera. Each has different level of ABS signals.
• Thomson: linear ABS signal 0..12V with three different gradient sectors. The middle of
the characteristic has a very high gradient.
• CRM86: cca. 1V signal with 1.15 V offset
• CRM92: both offset and gain adjustable
1. Turn off ABS, set up manually a kV-mA combination, that offer 6V voltage level
on the point 1 of jumper JP1.
2. Put the jumper between JP1.1 and JP1.2.
3. Start fluoroscopy and set 2V on the J10 test point using P2 potentiometer.
4. Continue the setup procedure from *** (step 6 in section ‘Video Signal
Handling’).
The AEC (phototimer) calibration must be performed for generators with AEC option
installed. Make sure that the film speeds are already set (see option #23). The ion chamber
type is displayed when first entering the AEC calibration (SST for solid state, ION for ion
chambers). During the calibration procedure, the following tasks will be performed:
ATTENTION: It is very important that you complete this adjustment before proceeding
with the actual kV tracking because it relies on the proper preamplifier
adjustment.
Insert an X-ray phantom into the X-ray field. The phantom should be equivalent to 15 to
20cm (6 to 8”) water. Later when you set up the kV tracking and you change the kV you
must also change the phantom thickness to correspond to the kV value. Use the following
chart as a guide:
When using solid state chambers, preamplifier boards are installed to the CPU board in
the power supply that connect to the chambers. You can adjust the offset and gain for
each field for each channel. There is also an overall gain potentiometer on each
preamplifier board.
When using ion chambers, only the gain potentiometer on the TXCTR3 board can be
adjusted to get proper mAs termination. However the sensitivity of the ion chamber is
configurable and should be set according to the slowest screen speed for use but not less
than ISO 200. Refer to the following chart that also shows the switch settings for the
VacuTec chambers:
(2.5µGy/10V if available)
JN7 jumper on the TXCTR board must be set according to the type of the chamber: for ion
chamber it must be closed (ON) for solid state sensor it must be open (OFF).
1. Put a phantom equivalent to 6…8 inches of water in the X-ray field. For the first set of
exposures, use Medium speed films.
2. Select option #33 from the main menu.
3. The console first establishes communication with the CPU board in the generator. If
there is error or the CPU version number is not accepted, the test cannot be performed
and you return to the main menu.
4. The power supply is turned on. GEN NOT READY message may appear for a few
seconds, indicating that the main contactor relay is not energized yet.
5. On the APR display, the first available AEC channel (chamber) is displayed.
6. The default film/screen combination is Medium. The default is center field (you cannot
change field when calibrating ion chambers).
7. On the RAD display, the default calibration parameters are shown. The recommended
kV setting for the gain adjustment is 80kV. The third parameter on the RAD display is
the kV tracking constant and do not change it at this time (see later – kV Tracking).
8. You can change the mA with the keys between 100…300mA.
9. You can also change the backup mAs with the keys between
10…300mAs. When you first press one the controls when the mA is
displayed, the backup mAs is only displayed, it will not change. Similarly, to go back to
mA display when the backup mAs is displayed, just press or .
10. Make exposures, develop the films. Change the offset/gain controls on the
preamplifier (or the P10 potentiometer on the TXCTR3 board if using ion chamber) to
achieve optimum optical density (1.2-1.3) and mAs termination. When using pre-amps,
make sure that the DC offset is about 10mV, but at least a positive voltage (measure
offset at TP18/AEC on TXCTR3 board).
11. For three-field solid-state chambers with preamplifiers, repeat the previous procedure
(10) for all three fields. Use the overall gain potentiometer only when necessary, as it
may effect an already adjusted field. Note that in case of ion chambers there is no way
of adjusting the fields individually.
12. For solid-state chambers with preamplifiers, repeat (10) though (11) for all the
chambers. Note that in case of ion chambers, the chambers will be balanced later.
5.4.2 kV Tracking (kV compensation)
After the preamplifiers or the P10 on TXCTR is adjusted, you will need to perform the kV
tracking procedure. The goal is to get consistent optical film density (1.2-1.3) in the whole
kV range. The kV tracking will be performed for all film/screen combinations but only on
one of the chambers. You will have to make exposures on different kV steps and develop
films until you get the desired tracking. The kV compensated by assigning relative
numbers to certain predefined kV values. The 80 kV step being a mid-range value is
recommended to set to 100 (that is, 100 percent).
13. The default value for 80kV is 100%. You should already have proper image on this kV
with Medium speed setting. Change the kV using the keys. The available
values are 50, 66, 80, 90 and 117 kV. Notice that the rightmost parameter (kV tracking
constant) will be different for each kV step (by default: 780, 200, 100, 66 and 44,
respectively). 125, 110, 100, 92, 82
14. Make exposures on each kV step. Develop films and check for consistent optical
density. Increase or decrease the relative number on the right using the
keys until you reach the desired density. Increasing the number should result in darker
films, and vice versa.
15. Since this procedure has to be done for each film type, change the film type using the
keys and use appropriate films. When changing film types, you may be
prompted to save the changes you have made.
16. Repeat the previous procedure (13 through 15) for the H and D film types. The solid-
state chamber adjustment is completed at this point.
During the entire AEC calibration procedure, the relative chamber software gain is
displayed on the APR display. The default value is 100% for all the chambers.
Once the fluoroscopic configuration and tube calibration are completed, you must
perform the fluoroscopic dose limit calibration (applicable to R&F systems only). The
fluoroscopic dose limit calibration determines an mA-kV curve that ensures that the dose
rate will never exceed the maximum of 5mR/min for manual (non-ABS) mode or
10mR/min for ABS mode.
During the dose limit calibration, we have to find the kV at 2.0 mA which produces 5mR /
min radiation.
WARNING! It is your responsibility to accurately measure / monitor the fluoroscopic dose rate
by a calibrated non-invasive dosimeter during the calibration procedure. Control-X Medical,
Inc. cannot be held responsible for any excessive dose rate, damage or injury resulting from
improper measuring method or from use of inaccurate measuring equipment.
Notes:
1. You may have to set dose limit values other than 5mR/min and 10mR/min. Please verify
the national/local regulations in your area. It is possible to set any dose limit value in
manual mode by selecting the highest kV at 2.0 mA that provides the desired dose limit.
The ABS mode dose limit will always be approximately twice the manual mode dose limit.
2. Verifying the dose limit operation in ABS mode may be more difficult due to the mA-drag
feature (a change in the kV will result in mA change). Eventually, the kV and mA will settle
and you can determine the dose rate for those specific parameters. Use an empty X-ray
field to allow the ABS to drive up the kV as high as it can go.
6 DATA TRANSFER
All of the configuration/calibration data can be uploaded to or downloaded from a host
PC.
Note: You can use the keyboard to operate the program if the COM1 is the only available
serial port for the mouse.

computer, showing the user defined X-ray tubes.
1. Click on the “Select Tube 1” or “Select Tube 2” button and you will see a list of the
available X-ray tubes.
The program will return to the to the main screen. Carefully check the tube load limit chart
and compare it to the data seen on the screen. If modification is necessary, simply click on
the desired field and write over the data from the keyboard.
On the computer screen a progress bar will show the status of the downloading process.
On the console display DATA TRANSFER… message will indicate that the data is
transferring. After the successful download the console returns to the main display
(SELECT OPTION:)
If you have made modification to the available tube selection in the console then you
have to configure the new X-ray tube following these steps below:
During troubleshooting, the analog feedback and reference signals present on the TXCTR
board can be displayed.
Please exercise caution when working with the reference signals. The SF / LF
filament reference signals are present at the X-ray tube and may cause damage to
the filaments when set too high for a prolonged period of time.
Select the appropriate option from the main menu to display the SF, LF, IR (anode
current), IF (fluoroscopic anode current), kV and ABS feedback signal respectively. The
values are display both in actual test point values (V) and in natural units (e.g. mA).

8 PRINTING REPORTS
All of the major configuration and calibration data can be printed using any parallel
printer.
Please note that when connecting some printers to the parallel port of the console, the console
may give a continuous beeping sound when turned off. The beeping will stop when the
console is turned on.
6. After the report is completed, the console returns to the main menu. Repeat (5) if you
want to print multiple reports.
Use the following options to display the corresponding information. You may be required
to use these options when placing a service call. Return to the main menu by pressing the
key.
Option Description
91 Display the generator S/N stored in the console.
92 Display the generator type stored in the console.
93 Display the software versions of the generator.
97 EEPROM initialization (requires Master Password).
98 Key test.
Only for systems including a digital TS-99 tube stand controller. You must download the
APR data every time the APR database is changed in the console.
1. Make sure the tube stand controller is connected to the console (to he REMOTE port)
and the PRINTER DIP switch in the console is ON. Note that PRINTER switch has no effect
on the printer, it enables the TS-99 interface instead.
2. Select option #94. The APRs will be downloaded to the TS-99 in about 30 second. The
APR names are displayed on both the TS-99 and the console.
3. After the transfer is completed, the console returns to the main menu.
With 4.16 and earlier versions, the contents of the EEPROM cannot be read to a PC. When
upgrading from these versions to 5.8.16 or higher, most of the database contents may be
preserved using option 96. This feature works only once to avoid erroneous upgrade of an
already upgraded database structure. When using option 96, the APRs, X-ray tube data
and the AEC calibration data are preserved, making the upgrade safer and easier.
Note: When upgrading from 5.xx to a new version, use a PC to retrieve the current APRs
from the console, then select option 97 to initialize the EEPROM. Option 96 does not
work for versions 5.xx!
1. Make sure you are upgrading from v4.16 or earlier version (refer to Service Bulletin 16-
SB-001). You may have to upgrade when reading error message ‘CORRUPT DATABASE’
while booting in user mode.
2. In service mode, select option #96. The database is upgraded in about 10 seconds,
then the console returns to the main menu.
3. Perform all necessary configuration and calibration procedures (refer to Service
Bulletin 16-SB-001).
1. Make sure you are upgrading from v5.xx (use option #93). You may have to upgrade
when reading error message ‘CORRUPT DATABASE’ while booting in user mode.
2. If you want to preserve the APR data, use the MS HF installation disk and option 51 to
upload the APRs to a PC.
3. If you want to preserve the AEC calibration data, enter option 33 and record all the
AEC tracking data for all film speeds and kV steps.
4. In service mode, select option #97. The database is initialized in about 10 seconds,
then the console returns to the main menu. All previous data in the console will be
lost!
5. Download APR data if you uploaded them previously to a PC.
6. Perform all necessary configuration and calibration procedures (refer to Service
Bulletin 16-SB-001).
7. Restore AEC kV tracking values in option 33 using the previously recorded values.
All configuration and calibration data are stored in an electrically erasable EEPROM in the
operator’s console. To reset all these data to the factory defaults (e.g. during a SW update),
use option #97. Please note that the generator has to be fully configured and calibrated
before use. (Requires Master Password.)
Use this option to check the operation of the keys. Pressing a key will display its
hexadecimal code on the APR display. Use to return to the main menu.
