Day 1
Today we will work on one part of speaking – read aloud PTE. Look at the text below. In 40 seconds, you
must read this text aloud as naturally and clearly as possible. PTE read aloud practice is a long answer
item type that integrates speaking and reading skills and requires test takers to read a short text aloud,
using correct pronunciation and intonation.

Task
A text appears on the screen. Read the text aloud.
Skills assessed
Reading and speaking
Prompt length
Text up to 60 words
Time to answer
Varies by item, depending on the length of the text.

Useful tips for Read-Aloud

Use the time before the microphone opens up to become familiar with the text
It is your time to rehearse and understand the theme of the text. Quickly skim through the text
and become familiar with it.

Chunk the text before you speak by breaking it at punctuation marks

You can also break longer sentences at logical marks such as conjunctions. Mentally put a “/” in
front of words where you are going to pause. Full stops and commas are natural places for
these pauses but you can also stop at words like “and”, “but”, etc. In a long sentence you can
pause after 5-6 words or wherever it makes logical sense.

Pick some words that you can emphasize on

This is a very important point in our list of PTE Read Aloud Tips and Tricks!
When we speak naturally, we highlight the words that carry information. We put some stress
on these words. This is a sign of good speaking ability as it indicates that you know which pieces
of the sentence are more important than the others, and you also have the ability to pass on
that information to others. Don’t think too much about these – pick 3-4 words that seem key in
the sentence.

Read some starting text aloud just to get in the right state of mind

That way you can speak as soon as the microphone opens us. Read a little bit already before the
actual recording. That way you won’t be starting from fresh when the microphone opens up.

Start reading as soon as the microphone opens us

You will hear a tone and see the recording status. That is your sign to begin speaking. If you
hesitate, that will be considered as a negative sign. Fill the time available with your words.

Don’t stop too much when you are reading the text

Don’t stop too much when you are reading the text – either the microphone will close down or
you will come across as unnatural. Even when you are not confident about your response or
you think the words are difficult or that you have made a mistake, still keep going. If you are
silent for more than 3 seconds the microphone will shut down and your response won’t be
recorded any further.

Raise and lower your voice at the right places

Intonation is very important. Without it you will sound like a robot. If there is a list of words or
phrases in the sentence separated by commas, then you should raise your voice while speaking
each word in the list. When you are beginning a new sentence, that is also a place to raise the
tone. When you are concluding a sentence you should lower your tone. Your voice should have
that wave like effect.

PRACTICE EXERCISE-

Question 1: PTE Read Aloud Practice

“Modern science says: ‘The Sun is the past, the Earth is the present, the moon is the future.”
From an incandescent mass we have originated, and into a frozen mass, we shall turn.
Merciless is the law of nature, and rapidly and irresistibly we are drawn to our doom.”

Question 2: PTE Read Aloud Sample

Bill Gates used to be so addicted to Mine-sweeper, he used to sneak into a colleague’s office
after work to play, because he uninstalled it on its own computer because he was playing it too
much. Now check Bill Gates net worth. He is the richest man in America and second richest in
the world right now. For what are you waiting for, go online and start playing Mine Sweeper.
Just Joking.
Question 3: Read Aloud PTE
I wish you had mentioned Joaquin Phoenix because we are going to be hearing a lot about him
this awards season. And it’s going to sound blasphemous, but he deserved an Academy Award
for Gladiator even more than Russel Crowe. And the thing he and Casey Affleck pulled off with
their “I’m still Here” project is literally art transcending life.

Question 4: Read Aloud PTE

Reserve requirements are the proportions of the deposits that banks must keep on hand and
are not allowed to lend out. For example, if the reserve requirement is 10% and you deposit
$100 in a bank. The bank can lend $90 of that $100 to someone else. But it is not allowed to
lend the remaining $10.

Question 5: Read Aloud PTE New

Shadows that are in plain view yet hidden, waiting to pounce on fear. Crawling silently among
us. Releasing poisons of deceit and hatred for purity. Shadows that saw and grow in power. It’s
chaos on phone and consumes the world. The worst nightmares haunt us where we feel safest
at home.

Question 6: Read Aloud PTE Practice

By using galaxies as giant gravitational lenses, an international group of astronomers using the
Hubble Space Telescope have made an independent measurement of how fast the Universe is
expanding. The newly measured expansion rate for the local Universe is consistent with earlier
findings. These are, however, in intriguing disagreement with measurements of the early
Universe. This hints at a fundamental problem at the very heart of our understanding of the
cosmos.

Question 8: Read Aloud PTE Sample

Analyzing campaign speeches is difficult because it often is hard to obtain transcripts of
speeches. It is possible to generate reliable transcripts from video using automatic speech
recognition (ASR) systems, when the speech took place in a quiet environment. But researchers
opted not to use today’s automated methods because they were likely to introduce errors in
the noisy environment of campaign rallies.

Question 9: Read Aloud PTE with Answer

Every few seconds, our eyelids automatically shutter and our eyeballs roll back in their sockets.
So why doesn’t blinking plunge us into intermittent darkness and light? New research shows
that the brain works extra hard to stabilize our vision despite our fluttering eyes. When our
eyeballs roll back in their sockets during a blink, they don’t always return to the same spot
when we reopen our eyes.

Question 10: Read Aloud PTE Speaking Practice

Scientists have presented a prototype for a 3D bioprinter that can create totally functional
human skin. This skin is adequate for transplanting to patients or for use in research or the
testing of cosmetic, chemical, and pharmaceutical products. This new human skin is one of the
first living human organs created using bioprinting to be introduced to the marketplace. It
replicates the natural structure of the skin, with a first external layer.

The researchers analyzed 304 recordings of stylistically diverse music from across the world to
reveal the common features. Although they found no absolute universals, they found dozens of
statistical universals (specifically, features that were consistently present in a majority of songs
across different world regions). These included features related to pitch and rhythm as well as
social context and interrelationships between musical features.

Question 12: Read Aloud PTE Example

Babies born prematurely don’t use their expectations about the world to shape their brains as
babies born at full term do; important evidence that this neural process is important to
development. The findings offer clues to the mystery of why otherwise healthy babies born
prematurely face higher risk of developmental delays as they grow. In 6-month-old babies born
at-term, the portions of the brain responsible for visual processing respond not just to what the
baby sees, but also to what the baby expects to see.

Question 13: Read Aloud PTE Speaking

Can your smart watch detect when you are becoming sick? A new study indicates that this is
possible. By following 60 people through their everyday lives, researchers found that smart
watches and other personal biosensor devices can help flag when people have colds and even
signal the onset of complex conditions like Lyme disease and diabetes.

Questions 14: Read Aloud PTE Sample Example

A new study has found that the level of smile intensity in marketing photos influences how
consumers perceive the marketer’s competence and warmth, which can lead to different
results depending on the context. The researchers conducted experiments in which
respondents viewed marketing images that included marketers with either broad or slight
smiles. Also, they conducted a content analysis of postings on a website where people
commonly seek donations for causes or business ventures.

Question 15: PTE Read Aloud Practice

The wetland impacts of the spill documented by the team included both the loss of wetlands
due to shoreline erosion, and island fragmentation, where small islands are broken into even
smaller islands, creating more shoreline. Land lost from fragmentation is unlikely to be
reestablished, particularly in this part of the Mississippi River delta where levees prevent an
influx of new sediments from the river. This will alter natural coastal defenses against flooding.

Question 16: PTE Read Aloud Sample Example

Over millions of years retroviruses have been incorporated into our human DNA, where they
today make up almost 10 per cent of the total genome. A research group has now discovered a
mechanism through which these retroviruses may have an impact on gene expression. This
means that they may have played a significant role in the development of the human brain as
well as in various neurological diseases.

Question 17: Read Aloud PTE Practice Example

The technology, known as a brain-computer interface, records and transmits signals through
electrodes, which are tiny pieces of material that read signals from brain chemicals known as
neurotransmitters. By recording brain signals at the moment a person intends to make some
movement, the interface learns the relevant electrical signal pattern and can transmit that
pattern to the limb’s nerves, or even to a prosthetic limb, restoring mobility and motor
function.

Question 18: Read Aloud PTE Example

Finally, the experimenters examined real insects. To see if leg adhesion might also play a role in
the walking coordination of real flies, they put polymer drops on the flies’ legs to cover their
claws and adhesive pads – – as if the flies were wearing boots — and watched what happened.
The flies quickly began to use bipod-like leg coordination similar to the one discovered in the
simulation.

Question 19: Read Aloud PTE Practice Question with Answer

NASA’s spacecraft recently detected organic-rich areas on Mars. Scientists evaluated the
geology of the regions to conclude that the organics are most likely native to the dwarf planet.
Data from the spacecraft suggest that the interior of Mars is the source of these organic
materials, as opposed to arriving via impacting asteroids or comets.

Question 20: Latest Read Aloud PTE Sample

A new innovation could make printing solar cells as easy and inexpensive as printing a
newspaper. Researchers have cleared a critical manufacturing hurdle in the development of a
relatively new class of solar devices called Bravo solar cells. This alternative solar technology
could lead to low-cost, printable solar panels capable of turning nearly any surface into a power
generator.
Day 2
Repeat Sentence
Be ready to start speaking as soon as the microphone opens up

There are a large number of PTE Repeat sentence questions in your exam and very little time
between each. You will have only 3 seconds before the microphone opens up. So keep your
focus and be ready to speak with full force.

Understand the tone of the speaker and try to reproduce that in your response
This is a short sentence so your chance of producing the right tone depends upon how well you
have understood the speaker. In read aloud you could read the sentence and decide where to
raise or lower your tone, but in these questions it all depends upon listening to the speaker.

Listen carefully and note which words are more important

Listen carefully and note which words are more important by trying to understand how much
emphasis the speaker puts on certain words. That way you can also emphasize the same words
in your response and make it sound more natural and authentic.

Try to understand what the speaker is saying

You won’t have time to write down the whole sentence. If you have understood well then even
if you don’t remember all the words you will be able to reproduce a few based on your
understanding of the text.

Form a picture corresponding to the audio in your mind as you listen

For e.g. if the speaker is talking about students in a classroom then imagine seeing students
sitting in an actual classroom and then base the whole sentence around that image. This will
help you to remember the sentence and parts of it. It has been scientifically proven that we
remember better when we attach visuals to something.

Keep in mind that there is no tone before the microphone opens up

So, do not make the mistake of waiting for the tone to start your response. As soon as the
countdown ends and the recording message appears you should start speaking.
Speaking anything if you have forgotten a word
If you have not understood or word or forgotten a word then just speak what comes to your
mind. Try not to be totally random. It is better you speak a word that is similar in sound to the
one you haven’t understood clearly. If you have understood the theme of the audio you will be
able to guess the word in a better way.

Speak each word clearly and with full confidence

Do not hesitate in front of the computer! These are short sentences and the score depends
upon how much the computer software can understand your words. So, if you are worried
about the other people in the test center or for some reason do not speak clearly, the
computer might count that as a mistake.

Day 3
Describe Image
Understand what type of image you are dealing with

This is the first step. Unless you are able to understand what type of image is in your PTE
Describe Image question, you will not be able to structure your response properly. So, first
understand if it’s a graph, if a graph then what kind of graph, a chart, a table, a map, an
infographic or something else? You can include this information in your introductory statement.

Prepare a template and structure for most common types of images

This tip is closely related to the previous one. For most common types of images you should
have a set template in mind. You don’t necessarily have to use the exact template – but you
should know enough to include the right information. For e.g. if it’s a graph then you should
look at the axis and include that information in your response. If it is a table then you need to
talk about the rankings and do some comparisons.
Identify the key points in the image and note them down.

You will have about 25 seconds to understand the image. In this time you should focus on
getting down the key points of the image. Once the recorder opens up you should only focus on
speaking. You don’t have to write down the whole response exactly as you will speak in the 25
seconds, but only the main points. Then you can go through them one by one in your response.

Decide the order in which you will describe the points

This is related to the previous one. A natural flow of ideas is the best. So you can start with the
point that conveys general information, then specifics and finally any comparisons and
implications. But this decision which point to speak about in which order should be made in the
first 25 seconds.

Always begin with an introduction!

Whenever you are explaining something – whether in PTE Describe Image or in the PTE retell
lecture questions or anywhere else, you first need to introduce the topic and prepare the
listener for what he is going to hear about. So that’s why begin your answer with an
introduction and an overview of the image.

Don’t forget to make a conclusion!

Just as you must begin with an introduction, similarly you must also end your response with a
conclusion. In this you can talk about the implications and sort of reiterate the main point of
the image.

Focus on key points not on all the details

There will be many points that you can potentially touch in your response, but you can’t cover
them all in your spoken response in 40 seconds. That is why you need to focus only on the key
points, for example – the highest, the lowest, the biggest, the smallest, the change in trend, etc.

Club similar points together

If there are too many points in the image you should speak about similar points in one
sentence. For example, if there is a bar graph which has a highest bar, a lowest bar and then
half a dozen bars which are similar in height then you can just put them all together – don’t go
through each one by one.

Keep an eye on the timer and try to complete within the given time

It is important that you give a structured response that is complete in entirety – in other words
introduction, key points, and a conclusion. If you see you are running out of time – then club
some points together and move on to the conclusion.
Practice by studying graphs, images, etc. in newspapers and websites

This is something you can do as a part of your normal everyday reading or Internet browsing. Of
course this cannot take the place of practicing materials from PTE Mock Tests packages, but this
can complement those materials and provide you more variety and even some fun.

Learn the right vocabulary – words for comparison, contrast, amounts, trends

For e.g. more than, less than, rose, fell, in contrast, compared to, highest, and lowest. This is
very useful in conveying the information in the right way. Combine your sentences using these
words. This will help you with other PTE Academic question types as well.

Don’t hesitate and don’t get stuck anywhere in your response

Even if the image is difficult and you are having a hard time trying to understand it, you should
still give a confident response even if simple in nature. As far as possible include all the main
points in your response, but if for some reason you aren’t able to understand the main points
then you can speak about the image in a simple manner – basically just read out what is in front
of you.

This image represents the mean annual temperature across the United States. The southern states are
hotter with the mean daily temperature ranging from 70-degree Fahrenheit and above while northern
states are the coldest with temperature ranging from 32 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The states located in
the middle of the country show the temperature range from 50 to 60-degree Fahrenheit. In conclusion,
the daily temperature is very high and far southern region and very low in the far northern region

Day 4
PTE Retell Lecture Tips and Tricks
Look at the image given alongside to guess what the lecture might be about

With each PTE Lecture question you will see an accompanying image. This image is related to the audio
that you are going to hear about. Therefore before the audio begins look at this image and try to form a
sentence in your mind – what is this image about? How can it be related to the lecture you are about to
hear?
Change the volume if needed
A lot of test takers do not pay attention to this, but you can adjust the volume of the audio if needed.
Sometimes you might want to hear at a louder volume to understand properly. So, if something is not
clear or you are confused about what you are hearing, then please adjust the volume.

Takes notes as you listen to the lecture

A very important point in our PTE Retell Lecture Tips and Tricks – Take notes!

This is very important in this question type. You will not be able to remember each and everything in the
lecture. Therefore you should write down the key points. Later on you can base your response on the
notes you have written. Practice with good questions and learn how to identify the key points. Once you
have done enough practice it will become very easy for you.

Listen to understand not just to memorize

When you are listening to a lecture your goal should be to understand the theme and the main points in
it. Do not try to memorize sentences because if you try to memorize one sentence you will miss out on
understanding others. Therefore listen to understand and write down the key points in your note.

Draw an image in mind as you listen

This is called active listening. This is almost a part of the previous point. Try to form an image in your
mind corresponding to whatever you are hearing. It is difficult to remember words but the image and
the situation in visual form is easy to remember.

Organize the notes in 10 seconds once the audio lecture ends

You will have 10 seconds before which the microphone opens up. Hopefully while you were listening to
the audio you were able to understand the main points and have also taken good notes. Now in these
10 seconds you should just think which point you will speak first and so on.

Be ready with some templates just in case you are not able to understand the lecture much

Have one standard templated response that you can say anywhere. It might not fetch you much points
but at least you will not score zero in the question. You can also have a template using which you can
give your response simply based on the image you have seen.

Introduce the theme in the opening sentence of your response

The first sentence of your retell lecture response in PTE should be the overall theme of the lecture. This
is to tell the listener (and the computer) what the lecture was about. In the subsequent sentences you
will elaborate on the key points under this theme

Make a good conclusion in the end

Keep an eye on the timer and by the time it comes to an end you should have spoken your concluding
sentence. In this you can talk about the implications of what the lecturer discussed, or you can reiterate
what the lecture was about in different words.
Learn to identify the key points in an audio by daily practice and by listening for guiding words or so called signpost words

Make it a habit of listening to some good quality academic audio every day. After listening try to explain
in a sentence or two what they were about. Identify the points after which key information was
mentioned. These are the signpost words which indicate that the following information is important and
should go in your notes.

Expose yourself to different accents and topics and not just one

When you are practicing make sure you have resources that span across a variety of accents and topics.
For e.g. do not just listen to lectures with only British or only American accents. Similarly do not listen to
lectures just on environment or just on physics. In our PTE Mock Tests packages we provide a wide
variety of authentic academic materials for your PTE preparation.

Don’t hesitate too much while speaking

Your goal should be to come across as fluent and natural. If you have made a mistake or stumbled on a
word, that is fine, you can correct that and move ahead. But if you get stuck there or take too much time
it will bring down your score.

Understand the pace at which you should speak and follow that in your exam

Speaking too fast or speaking too slow can both be bad for your score. Some people can speak very
clearly when they speak fast, but others are difficult to understand if they speak too fast. So your goal
should be to know what pace is right for you. Once you do, always speak at that pace.

Move to the next question immediately if you finish your response before time

Once it’s done, it’s done! Do not give the PTE computer algorithm any excuse to deduct your marks. So if
you have completed your response in 30 seconds and still have 10 seconds left, don’t worry, just move
ahead to the next question. Don’t try to fill the remaining 10 seconds with random sentences. That can
destroy the structure of your response.

PTE Answer Short Question Tips and Tricks
Do you remember the rapid fire quiz rounds in television shows? PTE Answer Short Question is
similar to that. In this article we will discuss some tips and tricks to help you get full marks in
this question type. There are a large number of questions of this time in exam. So, if you do well
at these you can give a big boost to your PTE Academic score.

Answer as soon as the microphone opens, don’t wait for the tone
You will have a large number of questions of this type and they will come at you quickly one
after the other, so be ready and as soon as the microphone opens up give your answer. There
won’t be any tone to indicate that the recording has started. Look at the recording status on
the screen and based on that start your response.

Maintain your focus while listening

As there are too many questions to answer, it is possible that you might lose your focus. Don’t
let that happen. Be fully attentive both while listening to the question and while giving your
answer. This is a very simple but very important point in our PTE Answer Short Question Tips
and Tricks list!

Don’t try to take notes in PTE Answer Short Question

The questions are short and if you try to write them down you will either miss a part of the
question or fail to understand anything at all. Therefore practice enough that you can
understand by hearing once and give your answer immediately after that. If you ponder for a
few seconds you might forget what you have heard or become confused about that.

Don’t be nervous when giving your answer

You only have to speak a word or couple of words. So say it will full confidence, don’t worry
about the right or wrong. This tip is applicable to all questions in PTE Speaking section. Don’t be
like this guy

Don’t stay silent while you think about the question

Ideally your answer should be ready as soon as the question has ended. If you are silent for too
long the microphone might shut down, so better be confident and give an answer quickly.

Feel free to correct yourself if you make a mistake

If you have made a mistake – for e.g. mispronounced the answer – you can correct it and speak
again. Don’t get stuck at any point.

Practice common questions before the exam

The questions in PTE Answer Short Question are based on common everyday general
knowledge topics. You don’t need any specialized knowledge to answer these questions. PTE
Mock Tests packages include plenty of practice materials along with scored mock tests to help
you do this.

Don’t attempt to give a smart answer

We have seen many test takers who unnecessarily complicate this question type. They think
too much! For e.g. if the question is – “Who is responsible for flying an airplane”, the simple
and correct answer is – “a pilot”, but some people will think too much and say – “air traffic
controller”. What comes to your mind first is usually the correct answer.

Speak clearly and pronounce the words correctly

You only have to speak a word or couple of words. So it is important that they are spoken
clearly and the pronunciation is correct. If the computer isn’t able to understand the word or
interprets it as something else, you will not get a point for that.

Practice a rapid fire round with a friend

Just like in the television quiz shows, request a friend to ask you 10-15 questions one after
another. This is good way to practice and also have a lot of fun.

Make the most of these PTE Answer Short Question tips and tricks by ensuring you also practice
with good questions! That is why we strongly recommend that you sign up for a PTE Mock
Tests package. If you have any questions about our study packages feel free to get in touch!

Day 6
PTE Summarize written text Tips and Tricks
First read the passage quickly to understand the main theme
The first in the PTE summarize written text tips and trick is: Read first!
Before you start writing the summary it is important to get a general idea of the text. You must
know how the text is organized – where the main points are, etc. This will help you when you
look for key points to include in your summary.

Find the main points to include in summary in the second reading

Once you have an overview pick the key points to include in the summary. These will usually
revolve around the theme. Each point should convey some distinct piece of information.

Take notes when you are reading

You can write down anything you feel is important. It is not always required to take notes in this
question type, as there are other ways to keep a track of important points.

Pick the main sentences and paste them in your answer window
This is related to the point above. Instead of first taking notes you can also copy the key
sentences and paste them in your answer window. This will also help you to keep a track of
what is important and relevant in the summary.

Don’t write a summary that is either too long or too short

Ideally you should write around 30 to 40 words. Since you have to write only one sentence it
becomes more and more difficult to avoid grammar and spelling mistakes as the number of
words in the sentence increases.

Connect the sentences properly as you can only write one sentence in your response

You will write only one sentence but it will be a complex sentence combining various key points
from the text. Make sure you use the right connectors and linking words to show the
relationships between different parts of this sentence.

Don’t use the exact same words or sentence structure as the main text
You can copy the sentences from the text and use it as a beginning point. But if you just join
them as it is you will not get good marks. Try to change the words and make your response look
original.

Review your grammar and vocabulary in the last couple of minutes

Don’t submit your response without doing a review. This is a chance to catch any avoidable
mistakes and also improve the quality of your response. Do this for all the questions in PTE
Writing section.
Don’t write in all capital letters
Many people who aren’t used to typing on keyboards on a day to day basis end up making this
mistake. People feel if they hit caps lock and go on typing it will be faster. However, if you do
this you will not get any point at all. Use capital letters only where they make sense.

Plan how to use the 10 minutes before the exam

When preparing for your exam you should plan how you will use the time you have for each
task. For example, 1 minute to understand the overall theme of the text, 3 minutes to pick the
key points, 4 minutes to write the response on the basis of the key points, and last 2 minutes
for review. Practice with authentic materials included in the PTE Mock Tests packages and you
will get the absolutely accurate exposure to an exam like environment, and authentic PTE
practice questions.

Learn proper reading techniques

This will help you with this and other questions where your reading skills are crucial. Reading
techniques that you need to learn and practice are skimming and scanning. You must know how
to read a text quickly to understand its overview and then how to read it in a way to find
specific information.

Do the commonsense test in the end

Ask yourself – Will this summary make sense to someone who has not read the entire text? If it
does then that means you have written a good summary, otherwise it is either incomplete,
missing some key information, or inaccurate.

Make reading a part of your everyday routine to develop your overall English skills

You can pick an article in a newspaper of read something on a website that you like. Read with
an active state of mind – At each step ask yourself questions like – what is this text about? what
are the key ideas in this text? Make sure you only read texts that are academic in nature.

Don’t include details in the summary

Your summary should include only the key points. This is not a place to include supporting
details. You anyway don’t have too many words to write. So if you notice that you are including
things like examples, specific numbers, etc. that means you are getting into the details and you
can safely avoid all of that.

With some good practice you can use these tips and tricks to get full marks in your PTE
Summarize Text questions. Check out a PTE Mock Tests package for best practice materials. If
you have any queries related to your preparation feel free to get in touch with us.

SAMPLE EXERCISE
Organisers say 2 the officers, who began work last week, will build positive relationships between police and
students. 3 But parent groups warned of potential dangers of armed police working at schools in communities
Armed police have been brought into NSW schools to reduce crime rates and educate students.
The 40 School Liaison Police (SLP) officers have been allocated to public and private high
schools across the state.

Organizers say the officers, who began work last week, will build positive relationships between
police and students. But parent groups warned of potential dangers of armed police working at
schools in communities where police relations were already under strain.

Among their duties, the SLPs will conduct crime prevention workshops, talking to students about
issues including shoplifting, offensive behavior, graffiti and drugs, and alcohol. They can also
advise school principals. One SLP, Constable Ben Purvis, began to work in the inner Sydney
region last week, including at Alexandria Park Community School’s senior campus. Previously
stationed as a crime prevention officer at The Rocks’ he now has 27 schools under his
jurisdiction in areas including The Rocks, Redfern and Kings Cross.

Constable Purvis said the full-time position would see him working on the broader issues of
crime prevention. “I am not a security guard”, he said. “I am not there to patrol the school. We
want to improve relationships between police and schoolchildren, to have a positive interaction.
We are coming to the school and giving them the knowledge to improve their own safety.” The
use of fake ID among older students is among the issues he has already discussed with
principals.

Parents’ groups responded to the program positively, but said it may spark a range of
community reactions. “It is a good thing and an innovative idea and there could be some
positive benefits”, Council of Catholic School Parents executive officer Danielle Cronin said.
“Different communities will respond to this kind of presence in different ways.”

Solution 1
Armed police have been brought into NSW schools to reduce crime rates and educate students because the
officers, who began work last week, will build positive relationships between police and students , and parent
groups warned of potential dangers of armed police working at schools in communities where police relations
were already under strain. (54 words)

The co-evolutionary relationship between cows and grass is one of nature’s underappreciated
wonders; it also happens to be the key to understanding just about everything about modern
meat. For the grasses, which have evolved to withstand the grazing of ruminants, the cow
maintains and expands their habitat by preventing trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold and
hogging the sunlight; the animal also spreads grass see, plants it with his hooves, and then
fertilizes it with his manure. In exchange for these services, the grasses offer ruminants a
plentiful and exclusive supply of lunch. For cows (like sheep, bison, and other ruminants) have
evolved the special ability to convert grass— which single-stomached creatures like us can’t
digest—into high-quality protein. They can do this because they possess what is surely the most
highly evolved digestive organ in nature: the rumen. About the size of a medicine ball, the organ
is essentially a forty-five-gallon fermentation tank in which a resident population of bacteria
dines on grass. Living their unseen lives at the far end of the food chain that culminates in a
hamburger, these bacteria have, just like the grasses, coevolved with the cow, whom they feed.
Truly this is an excellent system for all concerned: for the grasses, for the bacteria, for the
animals, and for us, the animal eaters.

Day 7
PTE Write Essay Tips and Tricks
What are the most important things to keep in mind if you want to do well in PTE Write Essay? .
Read these carefully and follow the advice along with sincere practice!

Don’t start writing the essay immediately

Many test takers are so nervous or excited that the moment they see the essay on the screen
they start writing. They do this even before they have properly understood the essay topic.
Most of the times this is because of a lack of proper preparation. They are not confident about
their ability and don’t have a systematic approach. As a result they end up writing a poorly
structured essay which at times even misses the question asked. Therefore, never start writing
the essay immediately. First spend some time understanding the topic and planning your
response.

Write according to a well-defined structure

Next in our PTE Write Essay Tips and Tricks list is: Structure!

The PTE software expects to see an essay which looks like an academic essay. An academic
essay has a very well defined structure – an introduction, key ideas discussed in the middle
paragraphs and then a final concluding paragraph. You should also develop your essay
according to the same structure.

Make sure to understand the topic clearly and what is expected of you in the essay

Spend a minute to properly analyze the essay topic and what aspect of that topic you have to
write on. Often the essay topic is very broad and then you are asked to address a particular
point of that topic. But if you only talk about the broad topic your essay will be considered
inaccurate.

Decide your position on the essay topic in the first couple of minutes
Most of the essays will require you to express your opinion on a certain topic – either in the
form of advantages, disadvantages, pros or cons or might ask you to express your views in
general. In the first couple of minutes you have to decide which side you are going to take. This
need not be the side that you actually believe in. It should simply be the side that is easy to
write about. Often it is safer to address both sides of an argument.

Write down some ideas before you start developing them

Before you jump into writing the essay come up with an outline. Write down what you are
going to address in paragraph 1, what you are going to address in paragraph 2, and so on. It is
helpful to come up with multiple ideas and then pick the ideas which are easy to develop into
full paragraphs.

Don’t repeat the same point again and again

Each paragraph should address a specific point. Don’t think just about filling the space and
meeting the word limit. You also need to demonstrate your command over English language. By
addressing different points you have an opportunity to use different words, different sentences
and get more marks.

Don’t leave any point half baked

When you begin a point in a paragraph, make sure to elaborate it fully. Don’t jump away to
another point before writing about one point in full. Discuss all aspects of that point and
provide an example where possible and relevant.
Do not consider your personal opinions
This is especially relevant for essays that ask about pros and cons. You don’t have to write
exactly what you believe in. Instead you should write what is easy for you. In most cases it is
easier if you take the middle position – write about both advantages and disadvantages by
acknowledging both sides, instead of trying to passionately defend on point of view and then
struggling to write an essay around that.

Use academic language in your PTE Essays

The test is PTE Academic! This is a test of your English ability in academic and formal situations.
Therefore use language that conveys that. Don’t use slang, don’t use informal structures! PTE
Mock Tests packages include essay questions as per the exact PTE Academic standards, for you
to practice along with the scored mock tests. Practice with these essays and learn how to write
proper academic essays.

Show your variety and diverse vocabulary in your essay responses

Don’t use the same words again and again. Try to use synonyms or other words that can convey
a similar thought. In the last few minutes of your task go through the essay and improve the
language wherever possible.

Always write a proper introduction and conclusion

In the introduction show that you understand the topic, and then explain what the rest of essay
is going to be about. Clearly tell your position on the topic. In the conclusion reiterate what you
have written and your position on the topic.

Try to write about 250 words in your PTE Write Essay task
Though you can write as much as 300 words it is possible to write a perfect crisp essay in about
250 words. That is enough to address the key points of a topic in sufficient depth, and also not
so long that you run the risk of making spelling or grammar mistakes.

Turn off the spell checker and grammar checker if you are practicing on your computer

If you practice on your computer then it is a good idea to turn off the spell checker and
grammar checker in your text editor (MS Word or anything else that you might be using). You
won’t have the help of these tools in exam, so don’t use them in your practice.

Spend some time reviewing the basic grammar concepts

In the essay writing task in PTE a lot depends upon your grammar skills. So make sure that you
have studies the basic grammar concepts before your exam. You don’t need to be an expert but
know enough to not make silly mistakes
Practice writing essays on a variety of topics
Expose your mind to a wide variety of essay topics. First of all this will get you ready for the kind
of essays you might face in exam, and second it will prepare you to come up with ideas related
to a wide range of topics.

The majority of television news being reported is bad news: wars, famines, accidents and crime. Some
people think that television news should be a mixture of good and bad news.

Choose whether you agree or disagree with this statement and discuss why you chose that position.
Support your point of view with details from your own experiences, observations or reading.

The media is responsible for the way we receive information from all around the world. Some people
think that the news we view should be a mixture negative current events and ones that represent a
better view of humanity. In this essay, I will argue that a balance of positive and negative news items is
the best option for us.

As human beings, we need a positive view of ourselves portrayed in the media. We need to see models
of good human behaviour so that we can emulate the behaviour in accordance with our value systems.
For example, displaying humans treating each other with kindness and respect may lead to an audience
acting on these positive ideas. By reporting positive news stories we may build a more resilient and
robust society.

Bad news is often a record of the violent and dangerous behaviour and actions that are occurring
around the world minute by minute. It is a realistic display of the way humans treat each other and
showing it on the news reminds us of the dangers that many people face every day. For example,
continuing wars, political turmoil, incurable diseases, natural disasters are events that are constantly
present. If we are to solve these problems, we need to be constantly reminded that they exist.

This essay has argued that a realistic portrayal of world events may be necessary to remind us daily of
the ongoing problems many humans face but presenting examples of positive solutions may bring about
a positive change in our society more effectively. In my opinion, the balance of television news should
good rather than bad to be more reflective of current events and more effective in moulding society.

Some people believe that children leisure activities must be educational; otherwise, they are a

complete wastage of time. Children leisure activities must be educational or not

For most parents, it is quite indigestible to see their children wasting their time on activities with no
educational value. While many suggest that children should be given more time to engage in leisure
activities they like, some others believe that such activities should be educational in nature. In my
opinion, leisure activities need not necessarily be educative in nature.

To begin with, the purpose of leisure activities is to provide relief from the boredom of daily routine. Of
course, the volume of the information children receive at school is enormous, and they should be given
some free time to relax. Such leisure activities may include watching television, playing computer
games, and playing outdoor games with friends. Leisure activities are in no way intended to improve the
knowledge of children. So, there is no point in the opinion that free time activities should be
educational.

Yet another point is that no leisure activity is wastage of time. There is something to learn from all
activities. For example, playing with their peer group helps children develop communication skills. Also,
outdoor games are essential for proper physical and mental development of children.

However, we have to admit that in this competitive world where huge volumes of information are
generated every day, one has to spend time effectively. The more time a kid devotes to the study
process; the better his future life will be. So, there is no wrong if parents encourage their children to
play games which make the brain work. For example, kids can have a competition combining physical
activity and thinking.

Day 9
PTE Reorder Paragraphs Tips and Tricks
PTE Reorder Paragraphs types of questions are common in many exams and are one of the
most interesting in the PTE Reading section. In this article we will focus on our Top PTE Reorder
Paragraphs Tips and Tricks. Our goal is to make it easier for you to answer these questions with
the help of these tips.

Pick the lead sentence first and go from there

Your very first goal should be to identify the opening sentence or paragraph in the text. This
paragraph stands on its own. What does that mean? It means that you don’t need any other
information to understand what the paragraph is about. Usually these paragraphs introduce
the topic or start a discussion.

Decide order in pairs of paragraphs

In PTE Reorder Paragraphs you don’t get score for putting one paragraph at the correct
position. You get a score for arranging a pair of paragraphs correctly. It is also easier to arrange
two paragraphs in the right order rather than deal with the whole.

Look for linking words to identify relationships between the sentences and paragraphs

Next in our PTE Reorder Paragraphs Tips and Tricks: Identify relationships!

Once you understand how one paragraph depends upon other, you can arrange them in the
right order. Words that close a paragraph or begin a paragraph give a good indication of this

Review all paragraphs together in the end

Once you think you have arranged all the paragraphs in the right order, read them a couple of
time. Ask yourself these questions – Can I move any paragraph to another position and improve
its meaning? Is any paragraph incomplete in any way?

Read medium to long size texts every day

The next in our PTE Reorder Paragraphs Tips and Tricks list: Daily practice!

Make reading a part of your daily practice. If you read a lot of texts your mind will start seeing
the pattern in which the paragraphs are arranged. Then you will find these questions lot easier
in your exam.

Go from brief to detail

This is a very important tip, so let’s understand this properly. If you read any text it follows a
certain logical pattern and order. It will begin with an introduction, then elaborate some point
and then go into more details. In a properly written text you will never see details first and
introduction later. So look for the same in these paragraphs. First put the paragraphs that give
some information, introduce some concept and then put the detailed ones.

Examples do not come first

Some paragraphs will contain information and some paragraphs might contain examples to
support that information. It is logical to say that the examples will not come first.
Review basic grammar concepts
This will help you to understand the links between various paragraphs, whether it is in the form
of connecting those paragraphs or looking for relations like noun-pronoun. Brushing up your
grammar will help you with all aspects of PTE Academic.

Try rearranging the paras if you are confused

If you find a difficult question in your exam and are unable to arrange the paragraphs then do
your best guess and start moving them around. Arrange them a few times and try to pick the
best order.

Go to the next paragraph if you are confused

Do not waste too much time reading any one paragraph. If you are unable to arrange or pair or
understand one paragraph try reordering another pair of paragraphs.

Manage your time effectively

This tip applies for all reading questions in PTE and also very much in PTE Reorder Paragraphs.
Decide before hand how much time you will spend on one question and don’t exceed that.

It is important to not just read the tips and tricks but to also use them in your PTE

Day 10
PTE Reading - Fill in the blanks

We have a question for you to begin with!

What is the most important factor in the PTE Reading Fill in the blanks questions? Is it your
knowledge of grammar and vocabulary or is it your logical thinking?
We will give you the answer soon along with other suggestions on what to do to get full marks
in this question type in your PTE exam, but first let’s get the basics out of the way. For more tips
and tricks you refer to our PTE Reading Fill in the blanks Tips and Tricks article.

This is how the Fill in the blanks questions in PTE Academic look like:

You have a text on your screen with a number of blanks in it. Below the text there is a pool of
words. You have to identify the right words and drag and drop them into the correct blank. The
words in the pool are more than the blanks. That means there are some extra words.

What will be your first step when dealing with such questions?

The first step should be to quickly skim through the text. Don’t spend too much time, just a few
seconds to get an idea of the text. Often when you understand a text you will be able to guess
the missing words even without looking at the blanks.

Using your logic you will be able to come up with some options to complete the blanks!

Then you should look at the words in the option pool. Which one seems to fit in the blank first?

There are couple of ways to decide this:

First, using the grammar rules you can determine whether a noun or a verb or something else
will complete the sentence. Then you should focus only on those options which are of that
type.
Second, you can also see which words make logical sense! If a noun will complete the sentence
but there are 2 or 3 nouns in the options, then you will need to decide on the basis of your
logic.

Finally, do not hurry! Sometimes you will see an option and immediately feel it is the correct
one. But when you look at the other options your opinion might change, or you might realize
your mistake.

Point to note:

If you feel stuck at a blank, don’t waste your time! Move on to the next. Once you have filled in
a few blanks and eliminated some options, the rest will become easier. It will become easier to
complete the remaining blanks. Do check out our other article on the Tips and Tricks that you
can use to score better in PTE Fill in the blanks as well as other PTE questions.

One more important point: How much time should you spend on each question?

As a rough guideline don’t spend more than 2 minutes on a question of this type.

text questions.

begins playing and when it’s going to finish.
 Writing space – Here you will be typing your answer, the summarized spoken text.
 Total Word count – It will show you how many words you have written. So you don’t need to
worry about counting it yourself.
 Cut, copy, paste buttons – These buttons will be there on the screen.
 Timer – It will show you the time backward, and how much time is left

Scoring
 Content: Keep your focus on the topic, including the key points and essential supporting
information.
 Form: The length of your response should be between 50 to 70 words.
 Grammar: Use grammatically accurate sentences. The best responses use concise sentences
that clearly communicate the intended meaning.
 Vocabulary: Use appropriate choices of words, that are relevant to the lecture.
 Spelling: Use correct spelling in your response.
 PTE Summarize Spoken Text task is listening to the audio recording. While you are
listening, firstly, you need to listen very carefully, and at the same time, you also
need to note down the keywords and phrases. It is not recommended that you try to
note down everything you hear during the 60 to 90 seconds of audio, instead, your
focus should be on the words that sound important. So, how do you figure out which
words are important? The answer is, you need to hear which words are emphasized
or stressed by the speaker.
 Not to forget, you need to note down the adjective, verbs, and nouns as well. The
emphasized words or words that have been repeated a number of times, will form
your key ideas and phrases. You should target to note down between 5 to 7
keywords and/ or key phrases. And learn to ignore the grammar words, for
example, the, for, it, is, etc.
 The third step in PTE Summarize Spoken Text, is to put your notes together into a
good response between 50 to 70 words.. But firstly, you need to think about the
central or the main idea of the audio you just heard. Use your notes and memory
together to think about what main thing that was discussed in the lecture, and that
will give you your central idea, which is very important.
 You will have full 10 minutes to type your response, so divide your time carefully.
Use the initial few minutes to think about the main idea and what keywords you can
use in the body, also think about what you can write in the conclusion.
 Let’s look at few more tips and tricks one by one:

Be attentive and be ready to listen

The first of PTE Summarize spoken text tips and tricks is: Pay attention!
You should be fully focused before the audio begins. You should put your cursor in the answer
window if you are going to type your notes, or you should be ready to write with your hand if
you will take the notes on your scratch pad.

Take good notes while listening to the audio

Note taking is an important skill for all questions in which you have to listen to an audio but it is
very important here. It will be tough to construct a summary simply on the basis of what you
remember. Your notes will provide you more assurance. It is worthwhile spending some time
before your exam to work on your note taking technique.

Don’t jump into writing immediately after the audio ends

We hope you have prepared well before the exam. That will give you the confidence to
approach all questions in a systematic manner. Those who aren’t confident or don’t have a
well-defined strategy jump into answering immediately. You shouldn’t do that, there are other
things to be done before that – such as reviewing your notes.

Stick to the word limit of 50 to 70 words

It’s easy to make this mistake therefore a very simple but important tip is to stick to the word
limit. If you see you are below the word limit then add some extra detail or repeat a point if
needed. If you see you are above the word limit then try to combine some parts or remove a
point that is not as important as others.

Don’t make unnecessarily complex sentences

Your sentences should be academic in nature – should be linked properly and be free of spelling
and grammar mistakes. That does not mean that you have to fill them with obscure words or
make them unnecessarily long and complex. That will only increase the chances of making a
mistake.

Review what you have written in the end

You have 10 minutes for one question of this type. Keep at least 2 minutes in the end for a
review. Check the word limit, look for spelling and grammatical mistakes, and of course make
sure that the key points are covered.

Use your time effectively

Next point in our PTE summarize spoken text tips and tricks list is: Time management!
As we stated in an earlier tip, you have 10 minutes for each question of this type. Divide it
effectively. Spend 1 minute going through the notes, 5-6 minutes writing your summary, 2
minutes on the review and the remaining on fixing any mistakes that you identify.

Answer based on your notes

Don’t depend entirely on your memory. Review your notes and construct your answer based on
that. This is what a structured approach is all about! Write good notes and then use them
effectively.

Don’t put unnecessary details in your summary

This is a summary question so it should only contain the key points. That means you shouldn’t
focus on extra details or examples. Usually every key point will be surrounded with a few
sentences that will give you more information on that key point. That extra information can be
ignored in the summary.

Day 13
PTE Listening- Multiple choice multiple answers Tips
and Tricks
PTE Listening Multiple choice multiple answers question type is the cousin of the same type in
the PTE reading section. You will listen to an audio and based on that answer a multiple choice
question. The question will have more than one correct option. In this article we will share
some great tips and tricks to help you ace this question type.

Let’s look at our Top 10 tested and proven PTE Listening Multiple choice multiple answers Tips
and Tricks.
Read the question and options before the audio beings
This is a very important. Though you won’t be able to read the question and all the options
thoroughly and understand them one hundred percent, even then this will be helpful. This will
put you mind in the right frame for listening. You will know exactly what information you need
from the audio.

Visualize while listening for better understanding

The next point in PTE Listening Multiple choice multiple answers tips and tricks is: Visualize!

There are two things that you must do as you are listening to the audio in PTE Listening multiple
choice multiple answers questions. First one is that you must visualize what you are listening –
this is like drawing a mental picture corresponding to the words in the audio. This approach
makes it easier to remember as well as understand the relationships between different parts of
the speech that you have just heard.

Take notes of important points

This is the second tip related to how you should approach listening in this and other PTE
Listening questions. The audio in these questions can be fairly long and therefore it is unrealistic
for most people to think they can remember everything in the audio. Therefore, you should
take notes. We don’t mean try to write down everything – this is not an exercise in taking long
dictations. You should pick and note down what is important – that helps you remember the
key theme and the main ideas in the audio.

Validate all options one by one

This means that before you submit your answer check the other remaining options as well.
Sometimes in a hurry you can overlook a subtle point that might make one of the remaining
options the correct one.

Don’t spend too much time on any one question

This is the other side of the previous tip. Time management is very important in the reading and
listening section of PTE exam as you will only have an overall section timer. So, don’t get stuck
at any question and spend too much time there. Do your best in the time you have allocated for
each question, and then move to the next question.

Beware of negative marking

The PTE Listening Multiple choice multiple answers carry negative marking. This means if you
select an option that is not correct you will receive a negative point for that, as a result your
total score for a question of this type can come down to zero. Therefore, don’t make random
guesses, but make sure to select at least one option.
Keep an eye on the options while listening to the audio

This is a good way to shortlist some options while listening. The options that seem to contain
the information mentioned in the audio can be included in the shortlist. Then once the audio
ends, you can look into them in more detail.

Practice with a variety of authentic audios every day

In PTE Academic you will find questions from various academic scenarios. These audios will
have different accents, different pace of speaking, different level of complexity. Therefore, you
must expose your ears to a wide variety of such audios while practicing. PTE Mock Tests
preparation packages contain a large number of such authentic questions.

Answer based on your notes

One of our earlier tips was to take notes. Now that you have taken notes you should base your
answer on what is in those notes. Of course you will have to combine it with you have also
understood while listening. In general it is a good approach to validate the options against what
is contained in the notes.

Don’t use your general knowledge

Let’s say you already know the topic discussed in the audio, and you know it in great depth.
According to you the correct options should be A and B, but what you have heard in the audio
points to options C and D. In that case ignore your prior knowledge and select options C and D.

Validate answers exactly against what is explicitly mentioned in the audio

In all multiple choice questions some options are similar to each other. These options are
placed there to confuse you. Therefore, check all aspects of each option, and only when
everything in it matches the information in the audio should you select it.

All the tips and tricks are useless if you don’t do some focused practice before the exam. Get
the most reliable PTE practice materials based on the latest pattern by signing up for one of
the PTE Mock Tests packages. You will receive scored mock tests with detailed result report,
and plenty of other practice tests and materials.

Day 14
PTE -Select missing word Tips and Tricks
Read the instructions to understand the theme of the audio
The first of our PTE Select missing word tips and tricks is: Read instructions!
In almost all PTE questions the instructions are standard and if you know them beforehand you
don’t need to read them in the exam. However, in PTE select missing word questions the
instructions are important because they tell you the theme of the audio. This makes it easier to
guess the kind of word that will complete the audio.

Check the options before the audio begins

Look at the options before the audio starts playing. That will make it easier to anticipate the
kind of audio you will hear and what word might complete it.

Take notes while you listen to the audio

Note taking is not hugely important in this question type but it makes sense to note down a few
words to remember the theme and focus of the audio. When you later select the missing word
this will prove useful.

Pay extra attention to the last part of the audio before the beep
As you notice the audio coming to an end become extra attentive. Try to remember the last
sentence and the words before the blank. If possible, write them down.

Combine all options with the last sentence one by one

This is the second part of the previous tip. Once you know the last sentence you can pick the
options one by one, add them to the sentence and see which option makes the most sense.

Eliminate options that don’t make logical sense

The correct option will fit in from both grammatical and logical perspective. If there are multiple
options that satisfy the grammatical part, then you should make the decision based on logic.

If confused make the best guess and pick an option related to the theme of the audio
In case you find the audio very difficult and are not able to understand much then you should
make an educated guess. This guess should be based on the theme of the audio. You can pick
the one closest to the theme of the audio.

Don’t get stuck on any one part of the audio, keep listening and be attentive
You must try to listen to and understand the whole audio. Don’t get stuck at one part! If you
can’t understand any part don’t worry about it, keep moving forward – you should specifically
never miss the last sentence before the beep.
Manage your time wisely
This is a simple tip for all the questions in PTE Listening section. Once the audio ends, you
shouldn’t spend more than a minute to finalize your answer. In select missing word questions
most of your thinking is done while listening to the audio. If you have done that well selecting
the option shouldn’t take more than a few seconds.

Visualize while listening to the audio

The last point in our PTE Select missing word Tips and Tricks list is: Visualize!

Actively engage with the audio you are hearing. Try to draw a mental picture – link various
parts! This will make it very easy to remember the key points.

Expose yourself to a real PTE Exam environment and authentic mock tests and practice
materials with a PTE Mock Tests study package! That is all you need to understand the
concepts, get the required practice and score well in the exam.

Day 15
PTE Listening -Fill in the blanks Tips and Tricks |
Read the text before the audio begins
This tip is applicable to many PTE Listening question types. If you quickly glance at the transcript
and become somewhat familiar with it, you will have easier time following it when the audio
starts.

Place your cursor at the first blank

Since you will start from the first blank it makes sense to put your cursor there. We are
assuming here that you prefer to type directly into the screen. The other approach is to first
note down on paper and in the end type the answer into the blank.

Move your eyes along with the audio and always follow the transcript
The goal here is to not fall behind. If you are still on 5 th word when the audio has gone up to
20th word you will not be able to answer anything properly. Therefore, don’t fall behind. Don’t
get stuck at any word for any reason. If you are still typing into a blank and the audio has gone
ahead, leave it and focus on the audio. You can come back in the end and complete typing the
word in the blank.

Decide whether to take notes or write directly in the blank

You will be surprised how many people go into the exam without deciding this beforehand.
Exam time is not the time to try out different approaches. You should do that before hand. If
you have a PTE Mock Tests package you will get plenty of questions to refine and finalize your
approach!

Review what you have typed at the end

Since you need to type quickly in this question type it is possible to make spelling or grammar
mistakes. Therefore, a review in the end becomes very important. It gives you an opportunity
to catch such mistakes and correct them.

Use grammar and logic to fix any mistakes

Sometimes you might confuse a word with something else that sounds similar. In that case use
your grammar knowledge and basic logic to guess the right option. PTE questions will never
have grammatical mistakes or illogical sentences.

If a word is difficult to understand make your best guess

If for any reason – the pace of audio, the accent, or if you just don’t know that word – you are
unable to catch the word in a blank then make your best guess. You can combine this tip with
the previous tip to make an educated guess.

Practice listening to English language audio every day

Next in out PTE Listening Fill in the blanks tips and tricks: Listen to English audio every day!

Even if you don’t spend time on dedicated PTE practice every day, make it a rule to spend some
time practicing with English audio at least a month or so before the exam. Many of these
questions will become very easy for you if simply get used to listening (and as a result
understanding) English audio naturally.

Learn common collocations

This is a great tip for the reading fill in the blanks and equally applicable to PTE Listening Fill in
the blanks questions. Even if you have failed to understand a word in a blank, if it happens to be
part of a collocation, you will still be able to answer if you know that collocation.
Become familiar with the academic word list
Your English language vocabulary is at the core of your PTE Exam. So, spend some time on
improving it by reviewing and learning the PTE Academic word list.

Above all, understand the concepts, and practice with a large number of authentic PTE
questions. That is how you will be ready for a big score in your PTE exam. PTE Mock
Tests packages will help you in practice, as well in understanding the intricacies of various
questions involved.

Day 16
PTE Highlight correct summary Tips and Tricks |
Quickly glance at the four summary options before the audio begins
This is a very important first step. By looking at the options you will get a general idea about the
audio. You will not what information to focus on in the audio.

Take notes while listening

It will be difficult to listen and remember the whole audio. Though you can listen and
remember the theme and some key points, you might not remember all the details. That is why
we always advice our students to take notes. Try to capture each key point and write it down.
This tip is relevant for many question types in PTE.

Keep an eye on the various options as you listen to the audio

When the audio plays keep an eye on the summary options. There is a fair possibility that you
will be able to eliminate at least one option or even more simply while listening.

Treat this like a multiple choice question

This is a form of a multiple choice question only in which the question is – “Which of the
following options is correct as per the audio?”. All that you have to do is select the best option
based on that.

Review all options one by one

Once you have identified your best option, look at the other options too. Some might contain
more information or might be more accurate. So before you submit your answer, spend a quick
few seconds going through other options too.
Make your final selection on the basis of your notes and what you remember
When the audio ends you will be ideally in a position where you have shortlisted a couple of
options. You will have some notes and some understanding of the theme of the audio. Now put
all of that together and make your final selection.

Visualize while you are listening

This tip is applicable to all tasks in which you have to listen to an audio. Actively listen and
engage with the audio. Try to form a picture in your mind. This approach makes it very simple
to listen and remember.

Eliminate options that have information that is not based on the audio
In this question type you have to select the most accurate summary. Some options will contain
information that is not mentioned in the audio at all. You should eliminate those options.

Select the most complete summary

What does this mean? This means that the option which contains the most number of points
from the audio. There will be 2-3 options each containing at least some relevant information.
You should select the one with most information.

Don’t spend too much time on any one question

. A key part of this is your time management plan i.e. how much time will you select on a
particular question type. If you find you are spending more time than planned on any one PTE
highlight correct summary question then just make your best guess and move to the next
question.

Day 17
PTE Listening Multiple choice single answer Tips and
Tricks |
Read the question and options before the audio starts
The very first in our PTE Listening Multiple choice single answer tips and tricks is this: Read
before the audio begins!
You will have a few seconds before the audio starts. In that time you can quickly glance at the
question and the options given. This will give you some understanding of the upcoming audio
and what to look for in the audio.

Keep an eye on options while listening to the audio

When you are listening try to understand but also keep an eye on the options, because after all
you want to validate the options against the audio. If possible, try to shortlist couple of options
by the time the audio ends.

Take notes of important points

Note taking is absolutely essential in most listening questions. It is very difficult to understand
and remember all the key points in an audio. Therefore, take notes to remember the main
points. When the audio ends this will form the basis on which you will answer the question.

Validate all options one by one

The next in our PTE Listening Multiple choice single answer Tips and Tricks list is: Validate all
options! Even if you feel you have found the correct option, still spend a few seconds to check
other options as well. Often the questions have couple of options that are very similar. If you
validate all options you will be able to pick the correct one.

Don’t spend too much time on any one question

After the audio has ended give yourself a fixed amount of time – 2 minutes or so to come up
with the answer. If still confused after that time, make your best guess and then move to the
next question.

Visualize while listening for better understanding

In all PTE Listening questions you should listen actively with a focus on understanding. The best
way of understanding is to draw a mental picture and see the audio as part of that. We forget
what we read or hear, but we find it easier to remember what we see.

Practice with a variety of authentic audios every day

In PTE Academic different questions will have different types of audio. Though all will be from
academic environments, some will have male voices, others will have female voices, and some
will have an American accent, while others might have a British accent. You should be comfortable
with understanding most common accents, and also comprehending audios spoken at different paces –
slow or fast.
Answer based on the notes you have taken
Your notes should serve as the main basis of your final answer. Of course you will also depend
upon what you have understood but as far as possible take comprehensive notes so it is easier
to pick the right option.

Don’t use your general knowledge

Your answer should be based on the contents of the audio and not your own bias or general
knowledge. Even if you know something about the main topic discussed in the audio, but that
point is not specifically mentioned, you can’t use that to answer the question.

Eliminate the wrong answers before finalizing your response

In the end after you have identified the correct option, also spend a few seconds on the other
options. There is a chance you might find a more suitable answer.

Use these tips and tricks, and get plenty of good practice with the PTE Mock Tests packages!
These packages include questions from a variety of authentic PTE Academic sources and are
exactly like the questions you will face in your exam.

Day 18

Day 19
PTE Highlight incorrect words Tips and Tricks |
Read the text before the audio begins
This is the same tip that we shared for the PTE Listening fill in the blanks questions. You have a
few seconds before the audio begins. Use that time! Even if you can only quickly glance through
the text you will become familiar with the text – that will make it easier to listen and follow.
You might even be able to pick some incorrect words just by reading!

Place your cursor at the first word

Your hand should be on mouse and the mouse cursor should be at the first word. You should do
this before the audio begins.

Move you hand along with the audio

Move you hand along with the audio and click on a word immediately if you think it is incorrect.
In this question there is no time to stop and think. You should click on the word immediately if
you think it is incorrect. Don’t leave it thinking you will come back to the word later.
Don’t change your selections in the end
In most questions it is a good idea to review and look for the mistakes, but not so in the PTE
Highlight incorrect words questions. If you try to do that you will only end up confusing
yourself. So, trust your instinct and submit the question once the audio ends.

Make sure you don’t fall behind the audio

This is very important. If you fall behind it will be almost impossible to recover and understand
the remaining audio. If you think you have fallen behind then jump to the part that the speaker
is currently speaking and leave the rest. Be like this guy in the picture.

Don’t make random guesses as there is negative marking in this question type
This is a simple but very important tip. PTE Listening Highlight incorrect words has negative
marking and if you make random guesses you will receive negative score and might end up
getting a zero for the question. So, click only on the words that you are sure about.

Practice with a variety of authentic audio clips

Like in all other PTE Academic questions you will hear a wide variety of audio. Questions will
have different accents, different speed of speaking, different complexity, etc. So, try to get hold
of authentic practice materials like the PTE Mock Tests preparation packages. These questions
will expose you to questions covering a wide range of scenarios.

Make logical guesses if required

If you end up getting a difficult audio and are only able to select one or two words or even
lesser, then you must try to make some logical guesses. You can read the transcript and pick the
words that don’t make sense there.

Day 20
PTE -Write from dictation Tips and Tricks |
Be ready to start listening and writing or typing
There is not much to do in these questions before the audio starts, except to be mentally and
physically ready to listen and engage with the question. You can either type on the screen or
note down in your scratchpad.
Decide your approach beforehand – write or type
The biggest mistake you can do here is to be not sure whether to type directly or to write down
first and then type in the end. Be clear about your approach. This is in-fact applicable to all
questions in PTE – you must prepare your strategy and approach before going to the exam.

Listen with the goal of understanding

Very important point in our PTE Write from dictation Tips and Tricks list: Listen to understand!
Even though you just have to listen and type a short sentence, you should still try to understand
the meaning and theme of the sentence. Why is this important? Because if you miss some
words you can then make an educated guess based on your understanding.

Type words in correct order and use your English knowledge to decide the correct order

Your score in this question type depends upon how many words you get correct, and also on
the order in which you put these words. Both are equally important. Sometimes you will be
able to catch the words but won’t be sure about the order. Then type them in first and then
arrange them in correct sequence on the basis of grammar rules.

Review for spelling mistakes

A word is counted correct if the spellings are correct. Therefore, spend a few seconds in the end
and pick any spelling mistakes. In our experience this is a very simple but very useful step –
even those who are experts in English language end up making mistakes when typing in a hurry.

Review for grammatical mistakes

This is related to the previous tip. The few seconds you have in the end for a review should also
be used to pick any grammatical mistakes. Even if you feel you have heard something correctly
and typed it in correctly, if it is wrong grammatically then please correct it. No PTE text will be
have wrong grammar.

Type whatever you remember if not the whole

If you aren’t able to understand the whole sentence then just type whatever you remember,
whatever you are able to understand, just make sure you arrange it in as right a sequence as
possible.

If confused make your best guess about that part of dictation

If you are confused about the words or a part of the sentence then make your best guess. It is
better than not typing in anything.
Practice listening to a variety of audios
In these questions you will hear audios spanning a wide range of accents, speaking speeds,
themes, etc. So make sure that you practice with authentic study materials that provide you
this diversity in questions! The best source is one of the PTE Mock Tests packages!

Improve your typing skill

It is always better if you can type in directly what you hear. To be able to do so you should
practice typing and work on your typing speed. Get a set of dictation questions – from very
short to long and gradually work on them.
