Test II.

ESSAY

One of the most pressing environmental problems of this generation is climate change. The Earth’s
climate is rapidly warming due to the excessive emission of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon
dioxide, into the atmosphere from human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation.
Climate change poses a significant threat to ecosystems, biodiversity, and human well-being. Rising
global temperatures lead to more frequent and severe extreme weather events, including hurricanes,
droughts, and heatwaves, causing widespread devastation and loss of life. It also contributes to rising
sea levels, leading to coastal erosion, flooding, and displacement of vulnerable communities. The
urgency to address climate change lies in the irreversible damage it can cause to the planet,
endangering future generations and jeopardizing the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Immediate
and concerted efforts are necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable
energy sources, promote sustainable practices, and adapt to the changing climate to ensure a
habitable planet for generations to come.

ACTIVITY: WASTE GENERATION EVALUATION

2. One major source of food waste generated I discovered in our households is perishable items such
as fruits, vegetables, and leftovers.
3. If this trend of food waste continues, several outcomes are likely to occur. Firstly, there will be a
significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions. When food waste decomposes in landfills, it
releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Secondly, there will be
a strain on natural resources. Producing food requires land, water, energy, and other inputs. When
food is wasted, these resources are essentially wasted as well, putting unnecessary pressure on the
environment. Thirdly, food insecurity and hunger may persist. While food is being wasted, millions
of people around the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. By reducing food waste, more
resources can be allocated to feed those in need. Lastly, financial losses will occur at both the
individual and societal levels. Wasting food means wasting money spent on purchasing and
producing that food.
3. Lack of meal planning, improper portioning, and disregard for expiration dates can all lead to
unnecessary discarding of perfectly edible food. Addressing these habits and implementing strategies
like meal planning, proper storage, and creative use of leftovers can help reduce food waste and its
environmental impact.
REFLECTION in Lesson 5
1-a.As an environmental problem, my potential harm to the environment would be deforestation. If I
represent deforestation, I would contribute to the loss of forest ecosystems, which results in habitat
destruction for numerous plant and animal species. Deforestation also contributes to climate change
by releasing stored carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, disrupts water cycles, and increases soil
erosion.
1-b.Here are some recommendations to prevent myself as a environmental problem: Raise Awareness:
Educate the public about environmental issues, their causes, and potential solutions. Promote
campaigns, workshops, and educational programs to encourage sustainable behaviors. Reduce Waste:
Implement waste management systems that prioritize recycling, composting, and reducing single-use
items. Encourage individuals and businesses to minimize waste generation and practice responsible
consumption. Protect Natural Resources: Preserve and restore ecosystems such as forests, wetlands,
and coral reefs. Establish protected areas and enforce regulations to prevent overexploitation of
resources and habitat destruction. Promote Sustainable Agriculture: Encourage sustainable farming
practices, such as organic farming, agroforestry, and precision agriculture. Support local food
systems, reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and promote biodiversity conservation
in agricultural landscapes. Encourage Individual Action: Empower individuals to take small steps in
their daily lives, such as conserving energy and water, using public transportation or carpooling,
adopting a plant-based diet, and supporting eco-friendly products and businesses. And lastly Foster
Collaboration: Engage stakeholders from different sectors, including government, businesses, NGOs,
and communities, to work together towards common environmental goals. Collaboration can lead to
innovative solutions and more effective implementation of environmental initiatives. Remember that
addressing environmental problems requires collective effort and long-term commitment. It's
important to take a comprehensive approach, considering social, economic, and environmental
aspects in order to create a sustainable future
2. No, the employment of robots by Japan has the potential to contribute positively to environmental health
by increasing energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and optimizing industrial processes. However, it
is crucial to address the potential negative consequences such as electronic waste and labor
displacement to ensure a sustainable and balanced approach. 3. Denmark, like many other countries,
is indeed facing the challenge of an aging population. In response to this demographic shift, the use
of various robots and automation technologies is one potential solution that could be employed to
address certain societal needs. Robots can be utilized in several areas to support and enhance the
quality of life for the aging population. Denmark, known for its advanced technological infrastructure
and emphasis on innovation, has been proactive in exploring robotics and automation solutions to
address the challenges posed by an aging population. The Danish government, research institutions,
and private companies have shown interest in developing and implementing such technologies.
However, it's important to note that while robots can offer significant benefits, they cannot replace
human interaction and care entirely. The ethical and social aspects of implementing robotics in
elderly care must be carefully considered to ensure that human dignity, privacy, and autonomy are
respected. Ultimately, the extent to which Denmark employs various robots in response to its aging
population will depend on several factors, including technological advancements, societal
acceptance, economic considerations, and the preferences of the aging population themselves.

1. Environmental problems pose a wide range of associated risks, both to the natural
world and to human societies. Here are some of the major associated risks of
environmental problems: 1. Climate Change: The increase in greenhouse gas
emissions from human activities is causing global warming and climate change. 2.
Air Pollution: Emissions from industries, transportation, and burning of fossil fuels
contribute to air pollution. 3. Water Pollution: Contamination of water bodies
through industrial discharge, improper waste disposal, agricultural runoff, and other
sources can have severe consequences. 4. Biodiversity Loss: Habitat destruction,
deforestation, pollution, climate change, and unsustainable resource use contribute
to the loss of biodiversity. This threatens the stability of ecosystems, reduces the
availability of ecosystem services, and hampers the planet's ability to sustain life
and support human well-being. 4. Waste Management: Improper disposal of waste,
including plastic pollution and hazardous waste, contaminates the environment and
poses risks to ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Addressing these associated
risks requires concerted efforts from individuals, governments, businesses, and
organizations. It involves adopting sustainable practices, transitioning to clean
energy sources, promoting conservation and sustainable resource management,
implementing pollution control measures, and fostering international cooperation to
tackle global environmental challenges.
2. Environmental hazards and environmental risks are related concepts but have distinct
meanings. Environmental hazards refer to potential sources or conditions in the
environment that have the potential to cause harm, damage, or adverse effects to
ecosystems, living organisms, or human health. Hazards can be natural, such as
earthquakes, floods, or volcanic eruptions, or they can be human-made, including
industrial pollutants, toxic chemicals, or hazardous waste. Hazards can exist in
various forms and can pose immediate or long-term threats to the environment and
human well-being. Environmental risks, on the other hand, are the potential
consequences or negative outcomes that may result from exposure to environmental
hazards. It involves the likelihood or probability that an adverse event or harm will
occur as a result of the interaction between a hazard and vulnerable elements (such
as human populations, ecosystems, or infrastructure). Risk is often described as the
combination of the probability or likelihood of an event and the magnitude or
severity of the consequences.

come.

REFLECTION in Lesson 6
Boracay, a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, faces various environmental
hazards that can negatively impact its ecosystem and overall environmental health.
Two of the key environmental hazards in Boracay include Water Pollution and The
solid Waste Management. Boracay's coastal waters have faced challenges related to
water pollution. Factors contributing to water pollution include untreated sewage
and wastewater discharge, improper waste management, and run-off from
agricultural activities and construction sites. Contaminated water can harm marine
life, degrade coral reefs, and pose risks to human health. The improper management
of solid waste is a significant environmental hazard in Boracay. The high influx of
tourists, combined with inadequate waste infrastructure and practices, has resulted
in littering, illegal dumping, and accumulation of solid waste, especially in high-
traffic areas. This can harm marine life, pollute land and water, and detract from the
beauty of the island.

1. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 is a global agreement adopted by the
United Nations Member States in March 2015. It outlines a comprehensive approach to reduce
the risks associated with disasters and build the resilience of communities, governments, and
societies to withstand and recover from the impact of disasters. The framework was developed in
response to the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters worldwide and the need for a
more proactive and coordinated approach to disaster risk reduction. It builds upon the previous
international framework, the Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015), and aligns with other
global frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on
climate change.
2. DRM is about managing the immediate response and recovery efforts after a disaster, while DRR
is about reducing the risks and vulnerabilities to future disasters through long-term planning and
actions.
3. The acronyms "NDRRMP" and "NDRRMF" both relate to disaster risk reduction and management
in the Philippines, but they represent different concepts and initiatives. the NDRRMP is a
comprehensive plan that outlines strategies and guidelines for disaster risk reduction and
management in the Philippines. On the other hand, the NDRRMF is a financial mechanism that
provides funding for disaster response and recovery activities. While they are related, the
NDRRMP focuses on planning and coordination, while the NDRRMF deals with the financial
aspect of disaster management.

QUIZ TEST II. ESSAY

1. Weather extremes can become disasters when they have severe and detrimental impacts on
human life, property, infrastructure, and the environment. The transition from a weather
extreme to a disaster depends on several factors, including the intensity and duration of the
event, the vulnerability of the affected population, and the level of preparedness and response
measures in place. The transition from a weather extreme to a disaster occurs when the event
causes significant harm to human lives, infrastructure, and the environment, surpassing the
capacity of the affected community to cope effectively.
REFLECTION in Lesson 7

Yes, the risk of a disaster can be reduced through various measures and actions. Disaster risk
reduction (DRR) refers to the efforts made to minimize the vulnerabilities and exposure of
communities and assets to potential hazards, thus reducing the likelihood and impact of disasters.
There are three ways in which the risk of a disaster can be reduced these are the Prevention and
mitigation, Education and awareness, Land-use planning and zoning Ecosystem management and
Preparedness. It is important to note that while it is possible to reduce the risk of disasters, it is
not always possible to eliminate all risks entirely. However, by implementing appropriate risk
reduction measures, societies can become more resilient and better equipped to cope with and
recover from disaster’s

impact on the environment. Single-use plastics, such as bags, straws, and food packaging,
contribute to pollution and pose a significant threat to marine life and ecosystems. I’m with
those many individuals and organizations support the phase-out of single-use plastics for
several reasons. Firstly, these items are often used for a short time but persist in the
environment for hundreds of years, contributing to the accumulation of plastic waste.
Secondly, plastics break down into micro plastics, which can enter the food chain and
potentially have adverse health effects on both humans and wildlife. Proponents of the phase-
out is a necessary step to mitigate plastic pollution and protect the environment. It emphasize
the importance of transitioning to more sustainable alternatives, such as reusable products and
biodegradable materials.

ACTIVITY: ACTIVITY ON IMPACT OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES ON THE ENVIRONMENT

1. “A Fable for Tomorrow” highlights the impact of human activities on the environment,
particularly the use of pesticides. The chapter paints a vivid picture of a town where the
natural environment and wildlife have been devastated due to the widespread use of toxic
chemicals. It describes how pesticides, specifically DDT, have contaminated the air, water,
and soil, leading to the death of birds, fish, and other organisms.
2. The main intent of Rachel Carson’s “A Fable for Tomorrow” was to issue a warning to
humankind about the devastating consequences of uncontrolled and indiscriminate pesticide
use on the environment. She wanted to draw attention to the interconnectedness of
ecosystems and the potential harm caused by disrupting the delicate balance of nature.
Carson’s message was a call for responsible environmental stewardship and a plea to consider
the long-term impacts of human activities on the natural world. She sought to raise awareness
about the need for sustainable practices, stricter regulations on pesticide use, and a more
holistic approach to protect the environment and human health. By presenting a vivid and
cautionary tale, Carson aimed to inspire readers to take action and initiate positive change in
their interactions with the natural world.
3. In “A Fable for Tomorrow,” Rachel Carson highlighted the detrimental effects of human
activities, particularly the widespread use of pesticides, on the environment. The main
violation of environmental laws depicted in the chapter was the unregulated and
indiscriminate use of toxic chemicals, such as DDT. The excessive application of pesticides
led to contamination of the air, water, and soil, causing significant harm to wildlife and
ecosystems. Carson argued that the unrestricted use of these chemicals violated the principles
of responsible environmental management and stewardship.
