Daily Lesson Plan

I. OBJECTIVES

A. CONTENT
The learners demonstrate understanding of key concepts of algebraic expressions.
STANDARD

B. PERFORMANCE The learner should be able to model situations using, oral, written, graphical and
STANDARDS algebraic methods in solving problems involving algebraic expressions.
C. MOST ESSENTIAL The learner uses models and algebraic methods to find the: (a)product of two
LEARNING binomials; (b) product of the sum and difference of two terms;(c) square of the
COMPETENCY binomials;(d) cube of a binomial; (e) product of a binomial and a trinomial.
(M7AL-IIe-g-1)
The learner should be able to:
D. UNPACKED a. creates a pattern for getting the product of two binomials;
MELC/LEARNING b. solves the product of two binomials using the FOIL Method; and
OBJECTIVES
c. demonstrate accuracy on solving product of binomials using the pattern for
easier computation.
SPECIAL PRODUCT: PRODUCT OF TWO BINOMIALS

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. Reference

1. Teacher’s

IV. PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

A. Reviewing previous Preliminary Activities:

lesson or presenting
1. Opening Prayer
the new lesson
2. Checking of Attendance

3. Setting of Classroom Standards

Review on the distributive property of multiplication over addition:

1. 3x (4x-5)
2. 2x2 (4x2 – 5x + 3)
3. (X+ 4) (x + 8)

Answer Key:

1. 12x2 – 15x
2. 8x4 – 10x3+6x2
3. X2 +12x +32
B. Establishing a purpose Let the students, realize that multiplication of polynomials is an important skill
for the lesson needed to understand the patterns for getting the product of binomials using the
FOIL Method.

C. Presenting examples/ Activity 1 Learners Material found page 145-146

instances of the new
Using algebra tiles, the teacher demonstrates the general formula for finding the product of
lesson. two binomials.

1. What is the area of a square whose sides are 2cm?

2. What is the area of the rectangle with a length of 3cm and width of 2 cm?

Answers:

1. 1. 2cm x 2cm = 4cm2

2. 3cm x 2cm = 6cm2

D. Discussing new The teacher demonstrates the FOIL/Vertical Method.

concepts and practicing
Present an example on the board.
new skills #1
Solve (x+3)(x+2), you would First: (x)(x)=x2 , Outer: (x)(2)=2x, Inner: (3)(x)=3x, Last:(3)
(2)=6. Then after combining like terms the answer would be x2 +6x+6.

Teacher discusses thoroughly the pattern for finding the product of two binomials
E. Discussing new using the FOIL Method by posting some examples on the board.
concepts and practicing
new skills #2 Let them compare their answers and the amount of time involved in solving product
of binomials.

Exercise:

Let the students come to the board to illustrate the FOIL / Vertical Method.

1. (x+3) (x+2)
2. (x- 5) (x+ 4)
F. Developing mastery 3. (3x-1) (x-4)
(Leads to Formative
Answers:
Assessment)
1. Solve (x+3) (x+2), you would First: (x)(x) =x 2, Outer: (x)(2) =2x, Inner: (3)
(x)=3x, Last:(3)(2)=6. Then after combining like terms the answer would be x 2
+6x+6.
2. x2 -x – 20
3. 3x2 – 13x + 4

Post a problem for the class to answer:

G. Finding practical Elie gave a rectangular mirror to his friend with side (x+5) m and (x+ 6) m. Find the
applications of concepts area of the mirror she gave.
and skills in daily living Answer:

x2 + 11x + 30 m2

H. Making generalizations Teacher summarizes the pattern for finding the product of two binomials by asking
and abstractions about the students the following questions:
the lesson
1. What is the general formula in finding the product of two binomials
2. Can you illustrate the formula in finding the product of two binomials using
FOIL Method.
Answers:

3. (a+b)(c+d) = ac+ad+bc+cd.
4. FOIL Stands for F for first terms, O for outer terms, I for inside terms and L
for last terms.For example:
Solve (x+3)(x+2), you would First: (x)(x)=x 2 , Outer: (x)(2)=2x, Inner: (3)(x)=3x,
Last:(3)(2)=6. Then after combining like terms the answer would be x2 +6x+6.

The teacher lets the students answer individually the Exercise found on page 147 of
learner’s material.

I. Evaluating Learning

J. Additional activities for

application or
remediation

V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80%
in the evaluation.

B. No. of learners who require

additional activities for remediation
who scored below 80%.

C. Did the remedial lessons work?

No. of learners who have caught up
with the lesson.

D. No. of learners who continue to

require remediation.

E. Which of my teaching strategies

worked well? Why did this work?

F. What difficulties did I encounter

which my principal or supervisor
can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized

materials did I use/discover which I
Localization and contextualization are done in the presentation of the lesson and in
wish to share with other teachers? the application.
