Wi SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Before servicing, unplug the power cord to prevent an electric shock.
. When replacing parts, use only manufacturer’s recommended components for safety.
. Check the condition of the power cord. Replace if wear or damage is evident.
. After servicing, be sure to restore the lead dress, insulation barriers, insulation papers, shields, etc.
— . Before returning the serviced equipment to the customer, be sure to make the following insulation
OfhwWN resistance test to
prevent the customer from being exposed to a shock hazard.

e INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST

1. Unplug the power cord and short the two prongs of the plug with a jumper wire.
2. Turn on the power switch.
3. Measure the resistance value with ohmmeter between the jumpered AC plug and each exposed metal cabinet part, such as
screwheads antenna, control shafts, handle brackets, etc. Equipment with antenna terminals should read between 3MQ
and 5.2MQ to all exposed parts. (Fig. A) Equipment without antenna terminals should read approximately infinity to
all exposed parts. (Fig. B)
Note: Some exposed parts may be isolated from the chassis by design. These will read infinity.

(Fig. A) (Fig. B)
Resistance = 3M2—5.2MQ Resistance = Approx oo

4. If the measurement is outside the specified limits, there is a possibility of a shock hazard. The equipment should be
repaired and rechecked before it is returned to the customer.

lM BEFORE REPAIR AND ADJUSTMENT

1. Turn off the power supply and short-circuit of power supply capacitors ( C406, 6800HF and C407, G800 HF) at
resistance (about 102, 5W) in order to discharge the charged voltage. Do not short between C406 and C407 by
screwdriver. It may damage the componet.
2. Before turning on the power supply after completion of repair, slowly apply the primary voltage by using a power
supply voltage controller to make sure that the consumed current is free of abnormality. The consumed curremt at
60Hz/50Hz in no signal mode is shown below with respect to supply voltage 110V/120V/220V/240V.

@ The power supply for this unit varies depending upon the areas. Also, the parts used for power supply are different.
So, refer to the ciucuit diagram and the replacement parts list.
* [XA, PC] area is provided with voltage selector and AC outlet.
* 240V (ro/60Hz) for Australia and United Kingdom.
* 220V (50/60Hz) for Continental Europe.
* 110V/120V/220V/240V (50/60Hz for other [XA, PC] area.
Phono input capacitance is about 150pF.

@ PROTECTION CIRCUITRY
The protection circuitry may have operated if either of the If this occurs, follow the procedure outlines below:
following conditions is noticed: 1. Turn off the power.
@ No sound is heard when the power is turned on. 2. Determine the cause of the problem and correct it.
® Sound stops during a performance. 3. Turn on the power once again after one minute.

oli © Short-circuit of speaker terminals
1. If speaker terminals are short-circuited, a high level current
will flow to power amplifiers Q5 and Q6, causing
the voltage across emitter resistor R5 to increase.
Voltage across R5 causes overload detecting transistor Q7 to turn ON.
. Emitter voltage of Q7 (ground potential) goes to terminal (7) of
1C302 through R8.
. Voltage at terminal (7) is transmitted to terminal (5) of muting IC (1C401).
Calculation circuit of 1C401 operates to eliminate the voltage at terminal (3) of
1C401.
OnrRwhr
. On operation of muting circuit of 1C301, the drive circuit of 1C302 stops
operating and the current from power
amplifier also stops.
Note: 1. Terminal (3) of 1C401 supplies power to drive circuit of power amplifei
r 1C302, and supplies control
voltage to muting circuit of voltage amplifier |C301.
2. 1C401 is provided with muting function to prevent shock noise during
power ON/OFF in addition
to power amplifier protection.
