THE PROBLEM

Introduction

One of the problems that the students facing nowadays is the lack of financial
support, which forces students to work while studying.Working while studying are students who
manage who engage in full-time/part time job while studying.

Working while studying assist students pay for their personal expenses and gain
valuable work experiences(Kerr et.,al.,2023).Furthermore, provides them opportunities and
benefits after college(Douglas 2019).However,there are still potential drawbacks amd that
includes pays that below the minimum wage rarely gives working students the chance to pay
for their college expenses. Moreover, students who work while studying are 20% less likely to
graduate compared to their peers who don’t work(Kerr et al.,2023)Hence,working while
studying students should handle their finances effectively to support their needs at home and
school.Working while studying must focuses on their studies more than job after graduating
and maintain their job to supply their needs. This study is crucial to our understanding of why
difficult to be a working while studying students,as well as how to cope with it and gain a
deeper understanding of it.

Senior high school students face various problems. Many working students

experience difficulties in school, such as low grades or failed exams, especially during exam
session.Time contraints and commitment to their studies are major challenges for working
while studying students. The combination of a full work load and professional education can
lead emotional burnout, reduced work performance, and lower quality of education.Working
while studying students also face health issue due to short study periods, heavy workloads, and
insufficient rest time, which can negatively impact their academic performance and overall well-
being .These problems highlight the need for supprt programs, time management skills, and
improved work-study balance for working while while studying students.Thet face challenges in
their academic performance due to various factors. The study highlight that combining work and
study can impact academic suscces negatively.Factors such as job characteristics,self-
employment, and the nature of employment can influence the final GPA of student
workers.Additionally, the pressure of managing work alongside academic responsibilities can
lead to decreased performance.Issues like role ambiguity, working conditions, and interpersonal
relationships at work significantly affect the task and contextual performance at working while
studying students. These challenges emphasize the need for tailored support and policies to
enhance the academic success of working while studying students, considering their unique
circumstances and motivations.

In this section, the researchers delve into the existing body of literature related to their topic.
The aim to shed light on the various factors that contribute to the problem at hand, drawing on
paststudies to help reader graps the research’s background thoroughly. Additionally, they take
the time to explain technical terms in simpler language to ensure everyone can follow along
easily.

BENEFITS OF WORKING STUDENTS

The majority of students enrolled in Noli National High School today work at least part-time.
Although the benefits of working have been noted for years, institutions of higher education
tend to operate under the assumption that students should prioritize their academic careers
over their employment. First, review literature examining why students work, the benefits and
drawbacks of working, and the type of work that yields the greatest benefit to students. Next,
discuss policy recommendations and practice considerations for higher education institutions,
including: (1) removing or adjusting practices that dis-incentivize working while studying
students; (2) developing policies that utilize students' work experience; (3) providing on-
campus part-time employment opportunities; and (4) establishing support systems that assist
students in finding employment that works for them. It conclude by summarizing the state of
higher education today, noting the inconsistencies between students' realities and institutional
expectations, and recommending ways in which institutions may more fully support their
working students. (Remenick, 2021)

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF STUDENTS

Interest in overall health and well-being of students in higher education has grown, Retention
and success in college has been linked to various health aspects including sleep and alcohol
usage. The purpose of this study is to: 1) assess sleep health and related behaviors, 2) examine
relationships between sleep health and work conditions, and 3) determine if there is a
relationship between sleep health and academic performance. Because many students work in
service industries due to the flexibility of these jobs, comparisons are made between students
working in service industries, students working in other industries, and non-working students.

CHALLENGES OF WORKING WHILE STUDYING

Elsa Diego-Medrano, Leslie Ramos Salazar International Journal of Social Policy and Education 3

widely documented by previous education studies. Faculty who struggles with achieving
balance between their professional and personal lives due to the demands of higher education
may eventually become dissatisfied with their job in academia. Thus, the purpose of this study
was to examine the perceptions of non-tenured, tenure-track, and tenured faculty members'
needs to achieve effective work-life balance in their careers. The current study explores the
experiences of working students, especially in higher learning institutions in coping with the
challenges of working while studying. It is expected that the suggestions and time management,
commitment, discipline, and responsibility. Students tend to use up more time in using gadgets
than on studying.
