I. OBJECTIVES
The Learners demonstrate understanding of the interactions for survival
A. Content Standards among living and non-living things that take place in estuaries and
intertidal zones.
B. Performance The learners should be able to create a hypothetical community to show
Standards how organisms interact and reproduce to survive.
1. Infer from the video clip/s the threat of human activities and natural
phenomenon on estuaries and intertidal zones.

Process question:

1. Who among you here are daughters/ sons of a fisherman?

2. Can you name some species that we can gather from intertidal
zones? estuaries?
3. What do you think if there is no estuaries and intertidal zones?

B. Motivation
( 5 mins)

Establishing a purpose
for the lesson Present the topic and lesson objective.
( 5 mins)
Our environment is under serious threat. Some threats are natural
others are man-made. Estuaries and intertidal zones in the environment
are being destroyed.

Like other ecosystem, estuaries and intertidal zones needs to be

protected because of the presence of organisms that are dependent on
their unique conditions. Our country is rich in different forms of ecosystem
because of the presence of so many rivers and long shorelines.

to our environment.

People should examine their daily activities. Their activities may

contribute to problems to environment. Estuaries and intertidal zones
must be protected. Planting programs and clean up drive of the
surrounding must be done.

Group Activity : “Fill Me Out”

Identify which human activities and natural phenomena that can harm
estuaries and intertidal zones. Put your answers in the table below.

Over fishing landslides tsunami tourist development

Planting trees mining storm surge using toxic pesticides
Floods improper wastes disposal boating typhoon

IV- Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1. How have humans become one of the greatest threats to the organisms in intertidal
zones?
A. They explore the tide pools for recreation.
B. They gather some organisms from the water for food.
C. They accidentally step on the organisms as their habitats.
D. All of the above.
2. What can damage an intertidal zone?
A. Stepping organisms and their habitat
B. Protecting intertidal community.
C. Providing them reservoirs of breeding places.
D. Allowing them to survive in the changing environment.
3. How does changes in environmental condition affect the survival of species?
A. Those organisms with weak immune system will increase its perpetuation to
diseases.
B. Those organisms which cannot produce fertile offspring will have the greater
chance of survival.
C. Those organisms that possess adaptation to the new conditions will have the
greater chance of survival.
D. Those organisms choose to migrate but failed to adapt the new environment
will have the greater chance of survival.
4. Why does dumping of garbage in estuaries and intertidal zones prohibited?
A. Fish and other species could die.
B. It leads to water pollution
C. It will result to poor marine life due to lack of oxygen.
