GUIDELINES TO STUDY THE SUBJECT

Instructions to Students:

1. Go through the 'Syllabus'.

2. Get your schedule and try to pace your studies as close to the timeline as
possible.
3. Go through the study material.
4. Check emails and announcements on AIMS.
5. keep updated with the posts, assignments, and examinations.
6. Be regular so that you do not suffer in any way
7. Cell Phones and Other Electronic Communication Devices: Cell
phones and other electronic communication devices (such as
Blackberries/Laptops) are prohibited in classes during Tests or the
Mid/Final Examination. Such devices MUST be turned off in the classroom.
8. E-Mail and online learning tool: Each student in the class should have
an e-mail from Google and access the Google Classroom system regularly.
Regularly, important information – Date of conducting class tests, quizzes,
and guest lectures via online learning tool. The best way to arrange
meetings with us or ask specific questions is by email and prior
appointment. Various research papers/reference material will be
mailed/uploaded on the online learning platform occasionally.
9. Attendance: Students must have a minimum attendance of 85% in each
subject. Students with less than said percentage shall NOT be allowed to
appear in the end-semester examination.

This much should be enough to get you organized and on your way to having a
great semester! If you need us for anything, send your feedback through e-mail
at shirshendu@iiitdwd.ac.in. Please use an appropriate subject line to indicate
the details of your message.

There will no doubt be many more activities in the coming weeks. So, to keep up
to date with all the latest developments, please keep visiting this website
regularly.

Course Outline:

The domain of Internet has grown in a rapid pace from traditional circuit switched and packet
switched small scale networks to modern high-speed mobile and wireless Internet. Meanwhile,
wireless communication technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. The last few years have
experienced a steep growth in teaching and research in the areas of wireless ad-hoc and sensor
networks. They find a variety of applications in both the military and the civilian population
worldwide such as in cases of enemy intrusion in the battlefield, object tracking, habitat monitoring,
patent monitoring, fire detection and so on. A large number of methods, architectures and designs
have come up at every protocol level to cope up with the demands for developing a secure and
highly dependable information technology infrastructure. Computer network represents a collection
of autonomous computers interconnected by means of communication infrastructure. Study of
networks require knowledge of networking architectures, protocol or algorithm that carries out
different sub-task of networking or information exchange and tools for network design and its
performance analysis.

Course Objectives:

 To understand the architecture and principles of today's computer networks.

 To understand the protocols and their functionalities.
 To perform simulation experiments for protocol performance, configuring, testing and
measuring network devices and parameters/policies.

Course Outcomes:

Here are some typical course outcomes (COs) for a Computer Communication Networks course,
along with their corresponding CO numbers:

CO1: Understand the fundamental principles of computer networking.

CO2: Understand the details and functionality of layered network architecture.

CO3: Apply mathematical foundations to solve computational problems in computer

networking.
