Revision 1.2
1 Introduction
This document will outline how to install the Cadence SPB tools using the standard Cadence installation
process. This process will not use the EBG Client Installer. With this new process, the installation will be
faster and more interactive so that it is easier to monitor the progress of the installation.

Important Note: Do not open production PCB board files on Allegro 22.1 as you may not be able to open
the board in 17.4. Wait until 22.1 is released for production use to work on production boards and
schematics.

2 Installation Overview
The overview of the process is as follows:
• Copy the Cadence installation files from the W drive to your PC.
• Copy the new mapping and start scripts from the W drive to your desktop.
• Run the Cadence Installer, manually enter information as the installer requests it.
• When completed, reboot.
• Repeat the installation for the latest Cadence Hotfix.
• Reboot again.

3 Step One, Copy the Cadence Installation Files to your PC

This step will take the longest amount of time. This can be done in the office or on VPN. Kick off the
installation and script file copies at a convenient time so that the files are ready for you to run the
installation later.

3.1 Map the W drive.

• If you are in the Morrisville Office:
o Use the RGLD-Q-netuseworkbench-221.bat to map all the drives. Verify the W drive is
mapped.
o Alternatively, use the following command in a Command Prompt to map the W drive:
▪ net use W: \\rdc-ecad.labs.lenovo.com\vista_pulse ADW1sGr34t! /user:rdc-
ecad\ADWreader
• If you are in the Taipei or Beijing Offices:
o Use the TGLD-Q-netuseworkbench-221.bat to map all the drives. Verify the W drive is
mapped.
o Alternatively, use the following command in a Command Prompt to map the W drive:
▪ net use W: \\tdc-ecad.labs.lenovo.com\vista_pulse ADW1sGr34t! /user:tdc-
ecad\ADWreader
3.2 Copy the files to C:\temp
• If it already does not exist, create a folder on your PC: C:\temp
• Browse to C:/temp and copy the following folders to C:\temp
o Copy folder W:\cadence_install\22.1 to C:\temp\
o Copy folder W:\cadence_install\config_files to C:\temp\
• Unzip the contents of these folders in their respective folders (Right Mouse> 7-Zip> Extract
Here):
o C:\temp\22.1\Base_SPB22.10.000_wint_1of3.zip
o C:\temp\22.1\Base_SPB22.10.000_wint_2of3.zip

3
Revision 1.2
o C:\temp\22.1\Base_SPB22.10.000_wint_3of3.zip

Your C:\temp\22.1 folder should look like this:

Figure 1: c:\temp\22.1 folder

Your C:\temp\config_files folder will look like this:

Figure 2: C:\temp\config_files

3.3 Copy the new 22.1 startup files your desktop

Although the mapping scripts are the same for the 22.1 release, the startup scripts have changed.

• If you are in the Morrisville Office:

o Copy new mapping and startup scripts to your desktop.
▪ Copy the folder W:\Gold_Library_Docs\Wrappers\22.1_RDC to your Desktop

• If you are in the Taipei or Beijing Offices:

o Copy new mapping and startup scripts to your desktop.
▪ Copy the folder W:\Gold_Library_Docs\Wrappers\22.1_TDC to your Desktop

4 Step Two, Run the Cadence Installer

Installation will need to run twice, once to install the Base 22.1 release and a second time to install the
Hotfix release. You MUST reboot after each installation.

Note: You will need 25 GB of free space after copying the install files to run the Cadence Installer.

4.2 Reboot
You must Reboot after installing the Base Release. The Cadence installer will complete the final
stages of the installation during the Reboot.

5 Install the latest Cadence Hotfix

Note that hotfixes are cumulative. Just install the latest hotfix and you get all the previous hotfixes. Do
NOT install a hotfix release later than the one specified by the tool administrator as it may or may not be
compatible with the server.

You must Reboot after installing the Hotfix Release. The Cadence installer will complete the final stages
of the hotfix installation during the Reboot.

5.1 Installing the 22.1-s007 Hotfix and Patches

Important Note: You MUST have installed the 22.1 base release before proceeding.

Follow these steps to install the 22.1-s007 Hotfix:

• Map the W drive.

• Copy folder W:\cadence_install\22.1-s007 to C:\temp\
• In the C:\temp\22.1-s007 folder, unzip the file Hotfix_SPB22.10.007_wint_1of1.zip (Right
Mouse> 7-Zip> Extract Here).
• Install the Hotfix: Double click C:\temp\22.1-s007\setup.exe.

complete the final stages of the installation during the Reboot.

5.2 Install the 22.1-s007 Hotfix Patches

9
Revision 1.2
These patches fix System Capture crashes, module ordering and diagnostics file problems. Install these
patches on top of the 22.1-s007 hotfix.

Manually copy the three patch files to your Cadence installation (C:/Cadence/SPB_22.1 folder.)

• Ensure the Cadence tools and your local Pulse server are NOT running.
• If you have not mapped the W drive already, map the drive with the appropriate <R, T or B>GLD-
<q, M or X>-netuseworkbench-221.bat file.
• Copy the file W:\cadence_install\22.1-s007\canvasgraphics64.dll to
C:/Cadence/spb_22.1/tools/bin
• Copy the file W:\cadence_install\22.1-s007\csedbpi64.dll to C:/Cadence/spb_22.1/tools/bin
• Copy the file W:\cadence_install\22.1-s007\logger.config to C:/Cadence/spb_22.1/
share\cdssetup
• Verify the new C:/Cadence/spb_22.1/tools/bin/canvasgraphics64.dll is size 39,303 KB. And
dated 2/1/2024.
• Verify the new C:/Cadence/spb_22.1/tools/bin/csedbpi64.dll is size 213 KB and dated
12/7/2023.

6 Step Three, Running Cadence 22.1

The 22.1 release will run in the same manner as the 17.4 release except you will be using new batch files
and startup scripts. There are no changes needed to your projects, you will just open them in 22.1.

Follow these steps to run 22.1:

For Morrisville:

• Clear the mapped drives (recommended before mapping drives): Desktop>22.1_RDC/Clear-

netuseworkbench.bat
• Map the drives: Desktop>22.1_RDC/RGLD-Q-netuseworkbench-221.bat
• To run EDM: Desktop>22.1_RDC/221-startworkbench.bat
• To run System Capture: Desktop>22.1_RDC/syscap_221_RDC_setup.bat
<-Note, the new syscap_221_RDC_setup.bat script will map the R and W drive for you.

For Taipei or Beijing:

• Clear the mapped drives (recommended before mapping drives): Desktop>22.1_TDC/Clear-

netuseworkbench.bat
• Map the drives: Desktop>22.1_TDC/ TGLD-M-netuseworkbench-221.bat
• To run EDM: Desktop>22.1_TDC/221-startworkbench.bat
• To run System Capture: Desktop>22.1_TDC/syscap_221_TDC_setup.bat
<-Note, the new syscap_221_TDC_setup.bat script will map the R and W drive for you.
Notes:

• Once the Library and Pulse Servers are upgraded, you should not run an old release.
• PC Boards opened in 22.1 may not open in older releases of Allegro PCB.
• You can delete the C:\temp\22.1 and C:\temp\22.1-s003 folders to save space on your PC.
The first time you run System Capture in 22.1, you will need to reset the following User Preferences to
reset the background back to the dark mode. These preferences only need to be set once.

Revision 1.2
