GRADE 7 ENGLISH

Grade 7 – English
Time: English Language: 5 x 35 minutes per week Literature: 2 x 35 minutes per week

Course Description:
The English programme adopts a learner-centred and process-oriented approach with a focus on both language
and literature. In the language section, the programme focuses on teaching text types to help students learn to
write effectively for different purposes and contexts. The application of grammar and vocabulary is also
emphasised in a communicative context. Students are given opportunities to develop their reading
comprehension and summary writing skills. In the literature section, the programme uses short stories, poetry,
and novels to teach students to understand and gain a better appreciation of literary elements. They also
develop critical thinking skills, learn to form an opinion, and learn to express their ideas both in writing and
speech.
