HOMEWORK#1: THE COMPUTER HARDWARE
1. Identify and describe the characteristic and purpose of the internal components
of a computer system.
Motherboards- it is a main printed circuit board and contains the buses
electrical pathways, found in computer. It is include her the CPU or the
(Central Processing Unit) and the Ram or (Random Access Memory) and
other chipset of the motherboard.
CPU or the central processing unit- it is the main brain of a computer or it
is a microprocessor that execute the computer programs.
Random Access Memory- it is a temporary storage for the data and
programs that is being access by the CPU. It is a volatile memory it is
means that the content of a computer when it is power of it will erased.it is
holding the large computer programs and files.
Power Supply Unit- it converts mains Ac to a low-voltage regulated by a
Dc power for the internal components of a computer. It is use in modern
personal computers instead in AVR and it is use a switched-mode power
supply.
AGP bus- it is a slot of graphic card it is the controller of directly access
memory. The AGP channel is 32 bits wide and runs at 66 MHz. This
translates into a total bandwidth of 266 MBps, as opposed to the PCI
bandwidth of 133 MBps
Cd or Dvd rom- This a common type of removable media and reads the
compact disk or cd.
Sound card/ Audio cards- it is a device that attaches to ISA or PCI in the
motherboard to process and deliver sound of the computer
Computer fan- it is attached in the computer case for active cooling and
warm the computer systems
Floppy Disk Drive- it is used to read a floppy disk.
Network Interface card- it is connect to the internet.
2. Identify and describe the characteristic and purpose of the different parts and
cables used in a computer system.
VGA (Video Graphics Array)- the VGA connection cable was the
standards cable used to connect a computer to a monitor.
DVI (Digital Visual Interface) – it is a successor to a VGA. It can transmit
analog signals, allowing it to be backward compatible with VGA. It can
transmit newer digital signals.
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) - It is just like VGA and DVI,
it is sends both video and audio signal together. It can be identified 19
pins on the male head. It is used with a portable device like camcorders
or digital cameras.
USB (Universal Serial Bus) – it is most pervasive connection type in
today’s world, Keyboards, mouse, headsets, flash drive, wireless
adapters, etc. it can be connected in our computer through USB port.
IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) – it is use to connect storage devices
in a motherboard. It is consist of 40 pins to 44 pins.
SATA (Serial Advance Technology Attachment) – it is also just like IDE
cables, it is provides a higher data transfer speed.
eSATA (External Serial Advance Technology Attachment)- it is an
Extension of SATA cables it is allow to connect external hard drives and
optical drives.
FireWire- it is a similar to USB, it is transfer high speed data in a
computer. It is High bandwidth device for printer and scanner.
Ethernet- are used to set up a local area networks, it is connect also at
the routers o modem to the computer to access the internet.
Ps/2 Cables- It is used the keyboard and mouse.
3.5mm audio cable- it uses to connect speakers, microphone, mp3
player or CD player thru computer to have audio.
Computer Power Chord- it is use to connect to the Ac to the power
supply to have an electricity.
Digital Optical Audio- it is use to connect in the DVD players.
S-video cable- Separate Video or Super Video cables carry analog video
signals and are commonly used for connecting DVD players,
camcorders, older video consoles to the television.
RCA Connector Cables-The RCA cables are usually used for connecting
your DVD player, stereo speakers, digital camera and other audio/video
equipment to your TV.
3. Identify and describe the characteristic ad purpose of 3 input device and 3 output
devices used in a computer system.
OUTPUT DEVICES
Monitors- commonly called as Visual Display Unit (VDU), are the main output
device of a computer. It forms images from tiny dots, called pixels that are
arranged in a rectangular form. The sharpness of the image depends upon
the number of pixels.
Printers- It is used to print a document paper or information papers.
Speakers-are speakers external to a computer that disable the lower fidelity
built-in speaker. They often have a low-power internal amplifier.
INPUT DEVICES
Mouse - is an input device that is most often used with a personal computer.
Moving a mouse along a flat surface can move the on-screen cursor to
different items on the screen. Items can be moved or selected by pressing
the mouse buttons (called clicking).
Keyboards - a computer keyboard is a typewriter-style device which uses an
arrangement of buttons or keys to act as mechanical levers or electronic
switches. Following the decline of punch cards and paper tape, interaction
via tele printer-style keyboards became the main input device for computers.
Web Cams - is a video camera that feeds or streams its image in real time to or
through a computer to computer network. When "captured" by the computer, the
video stream may be saved, viewed or sent on to other networks via systems such
as the internet, and email as an attachment.
