Chapter 1. Before Installation

Quick Start Guide


This Quick Installation guide is intended to provide a step-by-step procedure to install, setup, and
configure the TS7700 to a point where the Digital Roadmap can be used to complete the TS7700
installation.

Installation prerequisite
The following items are needed for the installation.
• Frame location
• TS7700 configuration data that is provided by the customer.
• Customer power connection for the TS7700
• Customer Ethernet connections for the TS7700
• Customer FICON connection for the TS7700
• ( Tape Attach Only ) TS4500 or TS3500 Library will need to be installed and configured before the
microcode is activated on the TS7700 with Tape Attach.
Note: All normal service support representative safety practices apply. Ensure that you are aware of the
Safety Guidelines and Safety Notices.

N/A 5 Do you have any tape attach microcode updates?


• Download the appropriate TS4500 or TS3500 code for this installation.
• Download the appropriate tape drive microcode for this installation.

• Verify that the tape drives that are used by the TS7770T are installed.
• Verify that the FC switches have been installed - FC 4880.
• Before the TS7770T installation, enable drive encryption.

Chapter 2. Installation and procedures

2.1 TS7700 frame installation and internal cabling


1. Unpack the TS7700 frame from the shipping containers:
• From the rear of the frame, remove the zip tie that holds the cable management arm in place during
shipping.
• In the front of the frame, two shipping brackets holds the TSSC monitor and keyboard (EIA 19).
Remove these shipping brackets. See Figure 1 Remove the TS7770/TS7770T shipping brackets and
zip ties
Note: You can flip the brackets and reinstall it for safe keeping.

2. Move the TS7700 Frame to the proper customer location:
• Does the 3948-Fxx or 3952-Fxx frame need to be moved?
a. Yes - Continue to step “1” on page 5.
b. No - Continue to step “3” on page 6.
• On the 3948-Fxx or 3952-Fxx frame, pull out the outriggers before the frame is moved or
repositioned.
a. Push up the frame flaps to expose the outrigger on each of the bottom four corners.
b. Pull-down on the release lever that is located under the frame and pull out the outrigger until it
locks. See the instructions on each outrigger.
c. Move the TS7770 frame into position.
d. Retract the frame outriggers on the 3948-Fxx or 3952-Fxx frame. Pull-down on the release lever
that is located under the frame to allow the outriggers to be pushed into the rack.
• Open the front door and the rear door.
• Loosen the lock nuts on the TS7770 frame-leveling pads.

CAUTION: The threading on the bolts are sharp, so be sure to use the 43 mm wrench (P/N
31L8313) supplied with the bill of materials to loosen or tighten the lock nuts.
• Lower the leveling pads until they contact the floor.
• Turn each leveling pad one more turn.
• Tighten the lock nuts on the TS7770 frame-leveling pads.

• Install the 1U black filler in frame location EIA1. The fillers are either in the ship group box or taped
inside the back of the frame. Refer to Remove the TS7770/TS7770T shipping brackets and zip ties
for the installation.
Notes:
– The base frame has a 1U filler. See Positioning the TS7770/TS7770T frame.

– If the frame is moved, then remove this 1U black filler before you turn up the leveling pads.
3. Verify that cables are properly connected:
a. Verify the cabling to the 39xx-VED and I/O Drawer.
b. Verify that all internal power cables are secure by pushing in each of the power cables so that it is
plugged in and seated.

2.2 Attaching the TS7700 external cables
1. Connect the customer power to the two PDUs in the TS7700 frame.
• Locate the customer power cables.
• Connect the customer AC power cables to the PDUs before you continue.
• Check that all power cord connections at the PDUs, and devices within the frame are connected
correctly.
2. Connect the Ethernet cables to the TSSC.
a. Verify that all existing cable connections are attached as shown in Figure 3 on page 7, Figure 4
on page 7, and Figure 5 on page 7.
b. Connect the external cables as shown in Figure 2 on page 2. (Call Home and optional AOTM).
c. Ensure that the TSSC tray assembly is fully extended at the front of the rack before routing the
cables through the cable management arm.

3. Connect the two Ethernet cables to the 39xx-VED. See cables 6 and 7 in Figure 6 on page 8
(C7-port1 2nd from top and C12-port1 2nd from top).

The TSSC only has power when the TS7700 frame PDUs are connected to the customer power.
When you power on the TSSC, it runs an initialization sequence for about 2 minutes. During that time the
TSSC is not available.

2.3 Tape Attach Cabling (Only for TS7700 with Tape Attach)
1. Locate the two Fibre Channel switches for the TS3500 or TS4500 frame that will be used to connect
the TS7770 to the tape drives.
Note: The lower Fibre Channel switch is the 251/primary, and the upper Fibre Channel switch is the
250/alternate.
2. Locate the 3948-VED or 3957-VED in the TS7770 frame.
Notes:
a. It is in EIA Fxx frame positions 15 - 16.
b. The 3948-VED or 3957-VED contains a Primary adapter in C2 and an Alternate adapter in C6 (as
viewed from the rear of the frame).

3. Use Table 1 to connect the fiber cable from the TS3500 or TS4500 switches to the correct adapters in
the TS7770.
4. Locate the 16 Gb FC switches.
5. Perform the following substeps to connect the Ethernet cables to the TS7700 16 Gb FC switches.
Note: The Ethernet cables need to be CAT5e or CAT6.
• Connect one end of cable 1 into the MGMT ETH port of the FC Switch 251 Primary. Connect the
other end of this Ethernet cable to port 6 of the Primary Ethernet Switch in the TS7770 frame. See
cable connection 1 in Figure 2.
• Connect one end of cable 2 into the MGMT ETH port of the FC Switch 250 Alternate. Connect the
other end of this Ethernet cable to port 6 of the Alternate Ethernet Switch in the TS7770 frame. See
cable connection 2 in Figure 2.

2.4 Power on the TS7700


1. Ask the customer to place the customer power circuit breaker to the ON position.
2. Verify that both TS7700 PDUs have power. The PDUs are located in the back of the frame and a green
LED will ON.
3. Verify that the Cache enclosures have power.
4. Pull out the TSSC Keyboard, Video, and mouse tray. Verify that the monitor is ON and the TSSC is
booting up.
5. Wait until the TSSC completes the bootup process before continuing.
6. Wait 2 minutes for the TSSC to boot up, if the TSSC does not boot up automatically then locate the
power button access hole on the front of the TSSC tray. Press the power button.

2.5 log in to the system console


The system console is ready for user login when you see the System Console Login screen.
1. In the Login field, type service and press Enter.
2. In the Password field type service and press Enter.

2.6 Perform the TSSC First Time Install and Fix Acquisition
The first time that you log in to the system console, you are guided through an initial configuration to enter
required settings.
You need the customer provided System Assurance worksheets before you begin.

Note: Until this is performed, you are unable to reach the Console Configuration Utility.
1. Select either TS7700 First Time Install:
a. The Console Time page is displayed.
b. Configure the settings on the Console Time page and click NEXT >>.
2. Continue to configure the settings on each of the following pages and clicking NEXT >> to advance
through each page.
Note: The page titles might be different depending on code level.
• Network Interface
• Call Home
• Location Settings for this Site
• SNMP Trap Alerting
• AOS Configuration
• Remote Support Configuration.
3. At the Fix Acquisition panel you are provided an opportunity to upgrade the TSSC, apply patches and
Download a MKSYSB image.
• Does the TSSC need a code upgrade, patch or download a MKSYSB image?
a. If YES, then continue to step 1
b. If NO, then continue to chapter 2.7
4. Is there a higher TSSC level of code? If yes, then download and install then continue with step “4.a.i”
on page 10 and if no, then continue to step “9” on page 11 .
a. Download TSSC code and install:
i) In the Fix Acquisition Function drop down menu, select Download TSSC Code.

ii) Press the Get Available TSSC Code Levels button to list available TSSC codes.
iii) Select the TSSC Code level to be installed, click on Download.
iv) Install the downloaded TSSC code
5. After the TSSC restarts then select the FTI button and press NEXT until you reach the Fix Acquisition
page.
6. If there are any TSSC patches for the current level of TSSC, then download and install.
a. In the Fix Acquisition Function drop down menu, select Download TSSC Patches.
b. Press the Get Available TSSC patches.
c. Select the Patches to download, click on Download .
d. Install the patches.
7. If the TSSC patch requires a reboot, then after the TSSC reboots then select the FTI button and return
to Fix Acquisition page.
8. If there is a higher TS7700 microcode level, then do the following:
a. From the Fix Acquisition Function drop down menu, select Download MKSYSB images.
b. Press the Get Available MKSYSB Code Levels button.
c. From the list of MKSYSB code images, select the one to download. Click Download.
Note: The download may take 30-45 minutes to complete, depending on network speeds.
d. After the download completes, Press the Create Hydra First Time Install Directory button.
e. Press the Move Image to First Time Install Directory.
f. Press the Next button to continue the process.
9. Do NOT press Next until you complete the microcode activation. You are instructed to press Next later
in the installation instructions.
Attention: For a TSSC in a TS7700, extra steps are needed to fully configure the TSSC. See TS7700
Installation roadmap.

2.7 Import the digital TS7700 Installation Roadmap


1. Locate the Installation Roadmap CD.
2. Insert the Installation Roadmap CD into the TSSC CD/DVD tray and close the tray.
3. Import the digital TS7700 Installation Roadmap to the TSSC using the following procedures.
• Right-click on the TSSC desktop.
• From the menu, select System Console Actions -> CD Copy to Console.
• A window will appear and display a list of directories that the digital Installation Roadmap can be
installed.
• Select 4 /var/enc/documentation and press Enter.
• Wait for the process to complete.
4. Open up a Browser.
a. Right-click on the TSSC desktop.
b. From the menu,the select Browser Functions -> start the Browser.
c. In location bar, type in /var/enc/documentation and press Enter to list the documents.
d. Select the Installation Roadmap.
5. Go to Chapter 5 in the TS7700 Installation Roadmap and continue the installation process.
