Lipid level assessments must be made following 9 to 12 hours of fasting else results might lead to erroneous
interpretation.

Dyslipidemia is a disorder of lipoprotein metabolism in the body and includes lipoprotein over production or
deficiency. Dyslipidemia means increase in the level of one or more of lipoproteins.

Dyslipidemia also includes a decrease in the “good” cholesterol or high density lipoprotein (HDL)concentration
in the blood. HDL is termed “good cholesterol “because its levels are inversely related to the risk of Coronary
heart disease. LDL cholesterol is termed the “bad cholesterol “and its increased levels are associated with
increased risk of
atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
