INTRODUCTION

❑ A flexible pavement structure is

typically composed of several layers of
material with better quality materials
on top.
❑ Flexible pavements can be analyzed
as a multilayer system under loading.
❑ The construction process of flexible
pavement is easy and economical.
❑ To present general construction
process of flexible pavement followed
by different government agencies, with
special reference to RHD and Army
Corps of Engrs, Bangladesh.
❑ Construction process of few type
design developed by BD Road research
laboratory, adopted by RHD and
executed by Army Engrs is presented
Common Design Types
❑ RHD follows different design types for :
❑ National Highway
❑ Regional Highway
❑ Rural road or Zila roads
❑ National highway possess greater
thickness and width.
❑ Regional and Zila roads are not as
superior as national highways.

Project by Army Corps of Engrs
General Cross Section of a Feeder
Road

Step by Step Construction of road section includes bottom

up stage construction method, i.e., Box cut, Sand cushion,
Subbase, WBM and Carpeting - Sealcoat
The Construction Steps (New
construction)
1. Road alignment
2. Pilot cut
3. Embankment construction
4. Box cut up to required depth
5. Preparation of subgrade
6. Construction of sub base
7. Base construction (WBM)
8. Surfacing (Carpeting & Seal coating)
Additional works
❑ Signs and protective structures
❑ Drainage system (mandatory for hilly road)
