Key Coaching Points
Body shape to receive - Players should adopt an open body shape, with shoulders facing where they ball is
coming from and where the ball is intended to go, so that they can receive back foot and pass forwards

Awareness (3 checks) - Players should be aware of the 3 checks to have awareness of ball, space, team mates
and opposition players. They check before they move to receive, check as they have moved to receive and
check as ball leaves team mates foot

Movement to create and exploit space - Players should move to create space to receive and pass forwards by
moving long to receive short, moving short to receive long, inside to receive outside, and outside to receive
inside movements. These movements are designed to unbalance defenders and create space to receive

Set Up
Centre Circle Area. Players play in groups of 3 and pass from outside of circle to player inside the circle and
pass back out to opposite team mate. Players familiarize themselves with different ways of playing through the
thirds and what techniques they may need to use. Rotate roles of players
Progression
Make it easier:

9. Players on inside of circle can give cues & communicate to rotate with team mates on outside of the circle

Make it more challenging:

10. Restrict number of touches for players (2 touch or 3 touch maximum)
