Section A: Data Analysis and Sampling (20 Marks)

1. (6 marks) A company wants to conduct a survey to estimate the average monthly
salary of its employees. Discuss two different sampling techniques they could
use and evaluate their advantages and disadvantages.

2. (4 marks) Define the terms *discrete data* and *continuous data* with examples.

3. (10 marks) The following table shows the test scores of a group of students:

(a) Construct a histogram. (4 marks)

(b) Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the data. (6 marks)

---

Section B: Statistical Measures and Graphs (30 Marks)

4. (8 marks) The weights (in kg) of 10 individuals are:

55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100
(a) Calculate the interquartile range.
(b) Construct a boxplot for the data.
5. (6 marks) The mean of a dataset is 20, and its standard deviation is 5. If all data
points are multiplied by 3 and then reduced by 4, find the new mean and
standard deviation.

6. (8 marks) A scatterplot shows a linear relationship between two variables x and

y. The correlation coefficient r = 0.85.
(a) Interpret the value of r. (2 marks)
(b) Derive the regression line equation y = mx + c given that m = 2.5 and the line
passes through the point (3, 10). (6 marks)

7. (8 marks) The following data relates to the cumulative frequency of marks in a

test:

(a) Draw the cumulative frequency graph. (4 marks)

(b) Use your graph to estimate the median and interquartile range. (4 marks)

---

Section C: Probability (50 Marks)

8. (6 marks) A bag contains 4 red balls, 3 blue balls, and 5 green balls. Two balls
are drawn randomly without replacement.
(a) Find the probability of drawing two red balls.
(b) Find the probability of drawing one red ball and one blue ball.

9. (8 marks) A survey shows that 70% of people like coffee, 40% like tea, and 25%
like both. Represent this data in a Venn diagram and calculate:
(a) The probability that a randomly selected person likes only coffee.
(b) The probability that a randomly selected person likes neither coffee nor tea.

10. (10 marks) Events A and B are independent. P(A) = 0.6 and P(B) = 0.4.
(a) Prove independence using the formula P(A∩B)=P(A)P(B).
, ,
(b) Find 𝑃(𝐴 ∪𝐵 ).
11. (12 marks) A factory produces two types of products, A and B. The probability
that a product is defective is 0.02 for A and 0.05 for B.
(a) Construct a probability tree diagram to represent the situation.
(b) If 60% of the products are A and 40% are B, calculate the probability that a
randomly selected defective product is of type A.

12. (14 marks) A student is given 3 questions to answer, and they either know the
answer to the question (probability 0.8) or guess (probability 0.2).
(a) If they guess, the probability of answering correctly is 0.25. Find the overall
probability that the student answers a question correctly. (6 marks)
(b) If the student answers a question correctly, find the probability that they
guessed the answer. (8 marks)
