BONIFACIO
Notably, as the eldest of
six children, Bonifacio was
orphaned at the age of 14
and had to take on the
responsibility of caring for
his younger siblings and
sisters. He dropped out of
school to search for work
to support his family.

ISSUES AND MAINTAIN UNITY.
MARCH 22,1897
A MEETING WAS CALLED IN TEJEROS,
CAVITE. THE MEETING THAT
ESTABLISHED THE REPUBLIC OF THE
PHILIPPINES WAS PRESIDED OVER BY
BONIFACIO.

The agenda of the convention was to

adopt a plan for the defense of
Cavite which was not discussed since
they decided to elect the officers of
the revolutionary government.
TEJEROS, CAVITE

- PRESIDENT: GENERAL EMILIO

AGUINALDO
- VICE PRESIDENT: MARIANO TRIAS
– CAPTAIN-GENERAL: ARTEMIO RICARTE
– DIRECTOR OF WAR: EMILIANO
RIEGO DE DIOS
- DIRECTOR OF THE INTERIOR:
ANDRES BONIFACIO
March 23, 1897 – the elected officials except for
Bonifacio took their oath of office.

March 23, 1897 – Acta de Tejeros was released

by Bonifacio stating the reasons why they did
not accept the results of the convention.

April 19, 1897 – through the Naik Military

Agreement, they organized a government
independent of and separate from the one
installed in Tejeros.
This document, generally known as the “Naik Military
Agreement,” proclaims that “some leaders” – meaning, but
not naming, Emilio Aguinaldo and others – had betrayed
the revolution, and that their authority should therefore not
be recognized by the revolutionary army. All officers and
troops, it affirms, will henceforth be united, “by persuasion
or force,” under the command of General Pio del Pilar. The
42 signatories include Andres Bonifacio, his brother
Procopio, Mariano Alvarez (president of the Magdiwang
council), Mariano Trias (who had been elected vice-
president of the republic at the Tejeros convention on
March 22) and Artemio Ricarte (who had been elected
captain general at Tejeros).
On April 27,1897, skirmishes took
place between the forces of Bonifacio
and Aguinaldo.

In the said scuffle, Ciriaco was killed,

while Procopio and the Supremo were
caught.

Bonifacio was stabbed in the neck,

weakening him and soaking him in
blood.
THE TRIAL
April 28, 1897 – Aguinaldo
forwarded Bonifacio’s case to the
Council of War.
April 29, 1897 – personnel was
completed and started the trial until
May 4.
May 8, 1897 – Baldomero
Aguinaldo wrote to Emilio Aguinaldo
for his recommending approval for
the execution of Bonifacio brothers.
THE TRIAL

Aguinaldo commuted it to
banishment but reverted it back to
death sentence because of the
advices of Gen. Mariano Noriel and
Pio del Pilar.

Evidence was not sufficient, but

Bonifacio is a living threat and can
cause disunity if not sentenced to
death.
