Chart Projection — Some Definitions
Meridional Parts — Length of the meridian between equator and that latitude
measured in units of longitude scale OR The number of times 1 minute of longitude
can be laid between equator and that latitude. Obtained from MP table
DMP — The DMP between two parallels is the Length of the meridian between the
two parallels measured in units of longitude scale OR the number of times 1 minute
of longitude can be laid between those latitudes.
Natural Scale — Ratio of, distance between 2 points, on chart, and actual distance
between them on earth.Mercator Chart construction Numerical
Construct Mercator chart from 28° N to 32° N and 015° W to 020° W using scale
1/ 1000,000 in latitude 30° N
Step 1 — Calculate length of 1 minute of longitude on chart
1 minute of latitude on earth = 1 nautical mile = 1852.3 m = 1852300 mm
