B. SETTING

C. PLOT
Odysseus gives an enthralling description of his encounter of many strange people and
monster;
The vengeful Cicons;
The lotus-eater with their memory-erasing food,
The one eyed giant Cyclops who are the members of odysseus crew,
The enchantress Circe who can turn men into animals by her magic portion,
The king in the underworld,
The ravenous sea monster.
And the last is, they give them the generous gift to send him to his homeland
Ithaca after the twenty years of absence.
D. Conflict
The scene changes to Ithaca.
Penelope is grieved to hear about her son’s departure; the suitors plan to ambush and
kill him on the way home.
A second council of the gods assembles on Olympus.
Athena reopens the question of Odysseus’s deliverance, and Zeus sends hermes, the
herald of the gods, to tell Calypso to let Odysseus go home.
Reluctantly, Calypso submits.
Odysseus sends a violent storm and wrecks the boat.
Odysseus, with the help of Athena, reaches land aftera fearful struggle.
Next morning Odysseus is awakened by the voices of young girls.
They are Nausicaa, princess of Scheria, land of the Phaeacians, and her handmaidens.
Odysseus appeals to them for help.
Nausicaa receives him courteously, provides him with food and clothing, and tells him
about herself and her royal parents.
She confesses to her handmaidens that he is the kind of man thatshe would like to
mary.
She leads him to the capital, where Odysseus, left to himself, admires the splendid
palace and gardens of the Pheacian king.
He enters the main hall, supplicates Queen Arete and king Alcinous, and he is hospitably
entertained.
The next day Odysseus witnesses a display of athletic skill, in which he has an
opportunity of showing his own prowess.
A banquet and a recital of heroic songs bythe Phaeancian bard demodocus follow.
Because he weeps when he hears Demodocus sing of the Trojan War, Odysseus asked to
tell his name and recount his adventures.
E. CLIMAX
F. Dennoment
The relationship of Odysseus and Penelope is reconciled with the help o f their goddess.
And also their kingdom with love, peace and loyal servants.
Reaction
For me this story is very interesting and has a sentimental value of love and sacrifices.
Because the main character encountered many challenges done by Poseidon. But I admire his
personality for being brave and strong. To Penelope, I like her attitude for being understanding
and sacrificing person to her suitors. Even though she had a lot of suitor, she did not choose
one person to substitute the throne of Odysseus. Because she is still hoping that her husband
will come back in their kingdom. To Anteclia, I felt regret for her loosing of hope to her son, and
that is the cause of her suicide in the sea. To Thelemacus characters, I admire his personality of
being handsome son, because he easily recognizes his father. Even he did not see his father
since birth.
Conclusion
After the 0 years of sacrificing, Odysseus came back to his kingdom Ithaca with the fall
of revenge to the suitors of Penelope who abused his kingdom . Then they killed all the suitors
in one room with the help of his son, Thelemacus. At the end o the story, the old kingdom of
Ichaca is came back with the approval of Zeus, intervenes to establish peace and prosperity in
Ithaca again. With the leader of the old king Odyssey and queen Penelope.
Recommendation
I will recommend this movie to the students who take up the literature subject. So that
they can better understand how the Greek warriors fight for colonizing a country. And also it
has a lot of lesson that we can get in this movie that we can apply in apply in life today. Being
loyal in one person, sacrificing in one situation and understanding.
