DOCTRINE OF

IMMORTALITY
1) Immortality (Gk.
athanasia) means
deathlessness,
undying or
everlasting.
 Incorruptibility (Gk.
aphtharsia) is also
translated as
immortality in Rom. 2:
7 and 2 Tim. 1:10

persistence in doing good

immortality, he will give
eternal life.

 The use of the two
words (athanasia and
aphtharsia in 1Cor. 15:
53, 54 shows that they
are interchangeable.

53 For
the perishable must clothe itself
with the imperishable, and the
mortal with immortality. 54 When the
perishable has been clothed with the
imperishable, and the mortal with
immortality, then the saying that is
written will come true: “Death has
been swallowed up in victory.”

If something is corruptible or
perishable, then it is mortal
but if it is immortal then it is
incorruptible or
imperishable. We can say
that immortality is same as
incorruptibility.
 2) According to Romans 2:7
immortality and incorruptibility
are same as eternal life. People
who desire and seek for
immortality or incorruptibility
are actually seeking for eternal
life because what God gives
them is eternal life.

 2 Cor. 5: 4 also indicates that
immortality is synonymous
with eternal life. It says that
mortality shall be swallowed
up of life. Life here is eternal. If
eternal life will gulp in
mortality, then, eternal life is
synonymous with immortality.

7 4 For while we are in this tent,

we groan and are burdened,

because we do not wish to be
unclothed but to be clothed
instead with our heavenly
dwelling, so that what is
mortal may be swallowed up
by life.

 3) Eternal life is same as
immortality because both are
synonymous with the kingdom
of God.
Many scholars do not know
that Jesus used the kingdom
interchangeably with eternal
life.
 Entering into the kingdom is
same as entering into life
according to Jesus.
According to
Paul, immortality is same as
the kingdom of God. 1Cor. 15:
50-54.

53 For

 Flesh and blood cannot inherit the
kingdom; neither does corruption
inherit incorruption. So, the kingdom
is synonymous with incorruptibility
which is immortality.
Eternal life is same as the kingdom
of God because John calls eternal life
the Promise while James calls the
Kingdom, the Promise. 1Jn. 2:25; Jam.
2:5

25 And this is what he

promised us—eternal
life.

pinili ng Diyos ang mahihirap sa
mundong ito upang maging
mayaman sa pananampalataya at
maging kasama sa kahariang
ipinangako niya sa mga umiibig sa

 4) The relationship between
immortality and eternal life is that
immortality leads to eternal life.
Unless one puts on immortality he
can not live forever. In other words,
unless one puts on immortality he
can not enter into the kingdom of
God.
 " Flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom nor does
the perishable inherit the
imperishable...this perishable
must put on the imperishable
and this mortal must put on
immortality" 1Cor. 15: 50, 53

 Notice that only when
mortality puts on immortality
can death be swallowed up in
victory. 1 Cor. 15: 54. So, 1
Cor. 15: 54 is equivalent to 2Cor.
5: 4. Immortality in 1Cor. 15: 54 is
equivalent to life in 2Cor. 5: 4.
 So, when one puts on
immortality he begins everlasting
life! Immortality is the hope or
goal of our faith. It is the glory of
Jesus Christ which we are called
to obtain and the image of the
Son of God to which we are
called to conform. Rom. 8: 23, 28 &
29; 1Thess. 2:14

23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the

firstfruits of the Spirit, groaninwardly as we

wait eagerlyfor our adoption to sonship, the
redemption of our bodies. 28 And we know
that in all things God works for the good of
those who love him, who[a] have been
called according to his purpose.29 For those
God foreknew he also predestined to be
conformed to the image of his Son,that he
might be the firstbornamong many brothers
and sisters.

23 At hindi lamang ang sangnilikha,

kundi tayong mga tumanggap na ng

magiging kanya at ang mga ito'y pinili
niya upang maging katulad ng kanyang

panganay sa lahat ng maraming
magkakapatid.

14 For you, brothers and sisters,

became imitators of God’s

churches in Judea, which are in
Christ Jesus: You suffered from
your own people the same things
those churches suffered from the
Jews

Sapagka't kayo, mga kapatid, ay
nagsitulad sa mga iglesia ng Dios
na nasa Judea kay Cristo Jesus:
sapagka't nagsipagbata naman
kayo sa inyong sariling mga
kababayan, gaya naman nila sa

Immortality comes at the
end of our faith. Rom. 2:17;
1Cor.15: 52; Phil. 3: 20, 21.
Eternal life comes at the
end of our faith. Mk.10:
30; Rom. 6: 22; Jude 1: 21.
The kingdom comes at
the end of our faith.
2Tim. 4: 1, 18
So, the three are same.
 5) Immortality, eternal life
or the kingdom is
impossible as long as one
is in this body of flesh. This
present body of man called
flesh is mortal and
corruptible.
No one can live forever (I.e.
inherit the kingdom of
God) with this body of
flesh! According to
Scripture, it is not possible
to live forever with this
body!
 "Flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom
(immortality, eternal
life), nor does perishable
(flesh and blood) inherit the
imperishable (the
kingdom)" 1Cor. 15: 50
 So, for any one to enter into the
kingdom or life (that is, to inherit
the kingdom or eternal life) such
MUST put on an immortal body!
A new body is imperative to
immortality and eternal life!
That is why a new body is
the subject of the Bible. Rom. 8:
23; 1 Cor. 15: 35-54; 2Cor. 5:1-5; Phil. 3:
20, 21.
 6) A being is mortal or immortal
depending on the kind of body
he possesses. One can only be
said to be immortal when and
only when he has a spiritual,
glorified and immortal body! God
and angels have spiritual bodies
so they have eternal life. Man has
natural body, so he is mortal.
1Cor. 15: 44

it is raised a spiritual
body.If there is a natural
body, there is also a
spiritual body.

7) According to Scripture,
Resurrection is the ONLY
way for man (flesh and
blood) to receive an
immortal, spiritual, glor
ified body!
 Jesus is the first man to ever
receive immortality! He received
immortality through
resurrection. At resurrection
God changed his body from
mortal to immortal. So now he
has entered into life or the
kingdom of God. He cannot die
again!
 Every other man who will live
forever MUST first receive an
immortal body, that is, he must
be born from above!
New bodies shall only be
given to believers at the point
of resurrection and so shall
they enter into life eternal!
 ROMANS 6:9
9 For we know that since

Christ was raised from the

dead, he cannot die again;
death no longer has
mastery over him.

 Resurrection is what
gives birth to
immortality and eternal
life in the kingdom of
God. There is no other
way. Lk. 20: 34-36; 1Cor. 15:
42-44, 50-54; 2Cor. 5: 1-5
Except a man is raised from the
dead (or changed) he cannot
enter into the kingdom of God
which is eternal life!
If one is raised from the dead
but is not given an immortal
body, he cannot enter into
immortality and eternal life but
must die again!
 1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-52
9 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery:We

will not all sleep, but we will all

be changed— in a flash, in the
twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet. For the trumpet will
sound, the deadwill be raised
imperishable, and we will be
changed.
 1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-52
51 Isang hiwaga ang sinasabi ko sa

inyo, hindi lahat tayo'y mamamatay

ngunit lahat tayo'y babaguhin,52 sa
isang sandali, sa isang kisap-mata,

bubuhayin at di na muling
mamamatay. Babaguhin tayong lahat.
 No person alive today has
immortality and none will
have it before others. The
living saints will not enter into
immortality, eternal life or the
kingdom before the dead
saints!

we who are alive until the
coming of the Lord will not
precede those who have fallen
asleep"

15 Ito ang itinuturo ng Panginoon

na sinasabi namin sa inyo:

tayong mga nabubuhay pa at
natitira pa hanggang sa
pagparito ng Panginoon, ay hindi
mauuna sa mga namatay na.
 Some believers will be
changed and enter into
immortality without dying.
However, that will not be by
their faith but by chance of
being alive at the time of the
resurrection of the dead!
 This is conclusive: Immortality
comes only with a spiritual body
and leads to eternal life in the
kingdom.
Spiritual body is only possible
for man through the New Birth
(resurrection). Resurrection will
happen for all believers of all
time( living or dead) at the same
time!
 I AM
IMMORTAL!
