com. But just to refresh your memory, here is a quick summary of the hear.com advantages:
Individual and unbiased consultation about hearing care and hearing aids
Because our Partner Provider blocks time out of their schedule to work exclusively
with you, it is very important that you do not miss your appointment. Please contact
your hearing expert by email or phone if you need to adjust your appointment.
The following section is a quick summary of what you can expect at your first appointment.
The Partner Provider will talk to you about your current hearing situation, perform a
thorough hearing evaluation, and go over the results with you once the test is complete.
1. Examination of the ear canal – The Partner Provider will examine your ear canals
to ensure accurate results of your hearing test. If your ear canals are blocked, the
Partner Provider will ask you to see an ENT specialist before conducting the hearing
test.
2. The hearing test – After an examining your ear canals, the Partner Provider will
conduct an air-conduction hearing test. The results from the test will indicate your
degree of hearing loss and which hearing aids are right for you.
Here is how a hearing test is performed:
• You will sit in a quiet room with headphones placed on your ears.
• Beginning with one ear, tones will be played at different frequencies.
• Each tone is played at a very low volume and gradually made louder.
• Upon hearing the tone, you will be asked to raise a finger or press a button.
• Your threshold for a certain frequency is determined by the softest tone you can hear.
• The results of your exam are recorded on an audiogram.
The audiogram
The purpose of the audiogram is to visually demonstrate the sounds you can hear
normally and the sounds you are missing. The top of the chart indicates normal
hearing; the further down the chart you go, the more challenging it may be for
you to hear and understand certain sounds. For example, consonant sounds – t, s,
f, th, k, sh, ch – are higher pitched and spoken more softly than vowels. If you are
having trouble hearing these sounds, you will clearly see this on the audiogram.
Missing sounds in the higher ranges means you can “hear” them but can’t really
understand them. Some specialists will use the left side of the chart to indicate
the percentage of your hearing loss.

3. Additional hearing tests – The Partner Provider may want to conduct additional
hearing tests that can help assess the quality of your hearing and the need for
hearing aids. These can include any of the following: bone-conduction test, a
speech test, or a comprehension test. After the hearing tests, the Partner Provider
will explain the results to you and go over your next steps.
4. Choice of hearing aids, fitting and adjustments – The Partner Provider will use the
results of your test to recommend the most suitable hearing aids and order them
for you. Thanks to our wide range of tiny and discreet hearing aids from Signia, we
are confident that your family, friends, and co-workers won’t even notice you are
wearing them. Once your new hearing aids arrive, the Partner Provider will have
you come in for your fitting appointment (learn more on page 9 "Your fitting
appointment").
6. Ear impressions and ear molds – Depending on your individual needs, choice
of hearing aids, and anatomy of your ear, the Partner Provider may want to take
impressions of your ear. With these impressions, a customized shell for your
in-the-ear hearing aids or an earmold can be made. This is done in a specialized
laboratory to ensure a high quality product.
Most hearing impairments affect both ears, so you are not fully addressing your
hearing loss if you opt for a single device. Hearing aids work together to deliver a
truer, more natural hearing experience. The advantages of two hearing aids include
improved speech in noisy situations and better directional hearing.

Your fitting appointment: Getting the most out of your hearing aids
Your next step is to have our Partner Provider fit you with your new hearing aids and adjust
them to your specific hearing needs. Once the hearing aids are in your ears, test them in
different environments (e.g. at home, at a park, in a restaurant, etc.).
Initial fitting of your custom hearing aids – Once your hearing aids arrive, you will
have your fitting appointment with our Partner Provider. During this appointment,
the Partner Provider will use your personal profile and the results of your hearing
test to fit your hearing aids accordingly.
Service, maintenance, and warranty – After your initial purchase, your hearing aids
include two years of warranty. If you encounter a situation that may require the use
of warranty, contact your hear.com hearing expert to help resolve your issue, even
if it requires ordering new hearing aids. You also have five additional device-related
office visits within a three-year period, so you can always visit your Partner Provider
if you have any questions or need further adjustments to your devices.
