Unemployment has also been a major issue in Zimbabwe, with the official unemployment rate
estimated to be over 80%. This has led to an increase in poverty, with many people struggling to make
ends meet. It has also led to a rise in crime, with people resorting to desperate measures to survive.
Due to unemployment this has adversely affected the youth of Zimbabwe it has been noted with the rise
of drug abuse. The use of mutoriro has risen frighteningly in Zimbabwe. Such a use of harmful drugs
leads to crippling the labour force if employment was to open up
Also on another note, unemployment has led to a rise of unethical behavior among the youth for for
example prostitution as people are now resorting to do anything to earn an extra dollar. The girl child
has also been affected as most of them are now having Blessers who give them money in exchange for
sex.
The social effects of inflation and unemployment have been particularly acute in rural areas, where
access to basic services such as health care and education is limited. The cost of attaining better
standards of living is quite high as inflation is rampaging and there are no jobs also.
The lack of employment opportunities has also led to a rise in migration, with many people leaving the
country in search of better opportunities elsewhere. This has had a negative effect on the social fabric of
the country, with families being separated and communities being disrupted. Also this has resulted in
brain drain where Zimbabwe no longer has skilled personell in its labour force.
