owned clothing and accessories. They cater to a young environmentally conscious clientele
who value sustainability and affordability. However, their reach is limited to their local
community, The owner, Linet, is considering launching an e-commerce platform to expand
their customer base and cater to the growing demand for online shopping.
Challenges:
 Standing out in a crowded Market place. Major online retailers and established e-commerce
platforms dominate the sector.
 Effectively capturing the essence of pre-owned clothing. Showcasing the unique details and
condition of pre-owned pieces can be challenging online compared to a physical state.
 Building trust with online customers: ensuring secure transactions and fostering a sense of
reliability for a niche market.
 Balancing affordability with sustainable practices. Implementing eco-friendly packaging and
shipping options while maintaining competitive pricing.

This platform allows users to host live concerts, educational lectures and granting sessions. The
system needs to deliver high quality audio and video streams to a geographical disperse audience
with varying internet connection speeds.

One of the critical challenges in such a system is capacity planning and resource allocation,
particularly concerning bandwidth while maintaining consistent video quality and minimal latency.
a) Explain the two factors that significantly impact the bandwidth required for streaming

b) Briefly discuss two trade-offs you can make when optimizing bandwidth usage for live
streaming. (1marks)
c) Describe two approaches for scaling the distributed multimedia system to accommodate
varying audience sizes and bandwidth limitations. (1marks)
d) Explain how content delivery networks (CDNs) can be used to improve bandwidth efficiency
