FRICTION
8.26. Refer to Fig 8.24. Block A having a mass of 45 kg rests on a block B having a mass
of 90 kg. It is tied with a horizontal string to the wall at C. The coefficient of friction
between A and B is 0.25 and between B and the surface is 1/3. Find P

KINEMATICS
11.76. In the slider crank mechanism shown in Fig. 11-26, the crank is rotating at 200
rpm. What is the velocity of the crosshead when θ=30°
Angular velocity of the crank:
π × 200
ω= =20.93 rad /s
30

l 2500
n= = =4.16
r 600

Velocity of crosshead:

(
v=r ×ω × sin θ+
sin 2 θ
2n ) (
=0.6 ×20.93 × sin 30+
sin 60
2× 4.16)=7.586 m/ s

11.89. Particle P travels on a circular path with radius 2.5 m as shown in Figure 11.27.
The speed of P is decreasing at the instant considered. If the total acceleration vector is
as shown, determine the velocity of P and the angular acceleration of the line OP.
The Centripetal acceleration:
2
v
a c =a ×cos 30=
r
v=√ a ×cos 30× r= √17 × cos 30 ×2.5=6.067 m/s

The Tangential acceleration:

a t=a× sin 30=θ̈ × r

a× sin 30 17× sin 30 2

θ̈= = =3.4 rad /s
r 2.5

Because the speed of P is decreasing at the instant considered so θ̈=−3.4 rad / s2
