BARANGAYS OF CITY OF BATAC, ILOCOS NORTE”

INTRODUCTION:

Managing solid waste has become a major concern in urban areas around the world due to the
rising population, urbanization, and the increasing volume of waste produced. In the Philippines,
this issue is especially critical in cities where waste management infrastructure often struggles to
keep pace with demand. In Batac City, Ilocos Norte, the management of solid waste directly
influences environmental health, public safety, and the community's quality of life.

With its diverse mix of residential, commercial, and institutional areas, Batac City faces ongoing
waste management challenges. Although Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act of 2000, calls for waste reduction, proper segregation, and responsible
disposal, urban barangays in Batac frequently face obstacles in meeting these standards. These
issues are often linked to factors like limited awareness, low community involvement, and
inadequate waste management facilities.

This study aims to assess the current solid waste management practices within Batac’s urban
barangays, focusing on effectiveness, challenges, and existing gaps. Through this analysis, the
study will identify areas where improvements can be made and suggest practical, sustainable
solutions that align with both the city’s environmental goals and national policies. The results of
this research will serve as valuable insights for local government officials, community leaders,
and policymakers as they work to promote a cleaner, healthier urban environment.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the solid waste management practices in the urban
barangays of Batac City, Ilocos Norte. Specifically, it aims to assess the effectiveness,
compliance, and sustainability of existing waste management methods, as well as to identify any
challenges and barriers faced by the community. By examining these factors, the study seeks to
provide insights that will help improve waste management strategies, enhance community
awareness and participation, and reduce the environmental impact of waste. The findings from
this research will inform policymakers, local government units, and community leaders,
supporting the development of more sustainable and efficient waste management practices for a
cleaner urban environment in Batac City.

1. There is no significant relationship between levels of implementation and
awareness of household residents between the level of implementation and level
of practices on solid waste management ordinances on municipal waste
management ordinance.

2. There is no significant relationship between level of awareness and level of


practices of household residents on solid waste management ordinances.

RESEARCH METHOD
Evaluating solid waste practices in the urban barangays of the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte,
requires comprehensive data gathering methods. Surveys, interviews,
Field observations, waste characterization studies, and documentation review are all

enforcement on waste management effectiveness. Ultimately, the study intends to provide

more sustainable environment for the residents of Quiling Sur.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To identify the current challenges and inefficiencies in the solid waste management
