Communication User Case


1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
The following document introduces the structure, machine model generation
and debugging of the software-in-the-loop solution of MCD and Mitsubishi vPLC
with OPC DA communication protocol.
The figure below shows an overview of the communication.

a) It is assumed that the reader has knowledge of GX Works 2 and can operate
Mechatronics Concept Designer.
b) GX Works 2 can be downloaded from Mitsubishi official website.
1.2 Components used
This application example was created with the following software components:

2. Commissioning and coupling
2.1. Configuration in GX Works 2
a) Start menu → MELSOFT folder→ click GX Works 2 to start GX Works 2
b) Click Project in menu → click Open… → select “Marquees.gxw”, press Open
c) Click Compile → Build in menu and make sure the code is right

d) Choose Menu → Debug → Click "simulate start/stop" to open GX


Simulator2, make sure the light of POWER and RUN are green

e) Toggle on “When process ends, close this window automatically” in Write to PLC
window
f) Start menu → MELSOFT Application folder→ click MX OPC Configurator to
start MX OPC Configurator
g) Open “Marquees_MXConfigurator.mdb” file.
h) Click " Start" button and then click " Monitor View", make sure the
signals’ quality under "Input" and "Output" groups are all good

2.2. Configuration in NX MCD


a) Start NX
b) Open user case original part, choose File in ribbon bar → click Open… →
click Options…

→ “Assembly Load Options” dialog box change Option to Partially Load, click
OK.
→ Select file “Marquees_GxWorks2.prt”, click OK to open.
c) Choose Home → Automation group → External Controller drop down list →
click External Signal Configuration.
d) In popup window switch to OPC DA tab, in server information group Click
Add New Server
e) In OPC DA Server list select “Mitsubishi.MXOPC.6”, press OK

f) In Tags group expand OPC Server → Dev01 → Input and Output nodes →
toggle on Start, Stop and Lighter signals, press OK

g) Choose Home → Automation group → click Signal Mapping. In pop-up


dialog change Type to "OPC DA", Click Do Auto Mapping, press OK

2.3 Start MCD simulation
a) Start MCD simulation by click Play. Move the course over “Start” button and
double click, the communication start through OPC UA communication
protocol.
