    BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION

    ABSTRACT

    The variety of life forms on Earth, or biodiversity, is very important for maintaining the
    balance of the environment, people’s health, and for maintaining national identity. This paper
    shows the need of protecting biodiversity, with a focus on India’s varied landscape. The
    paper begins with the introduction to the three main parts of biodiversity: genetic diversity,
    species diversity and environmental diversity. Further the paper discusses about some of the
    ways in which the biodiversity can be hurt like habitat loss, climate change, pollution,
    invasive species, and overexploitation.

    This paper examines India’s rich biodiversity, including its ecological systems, rare species,
    ands cultural significances. The Western Ghats, Eastern Himalayas, Indo-Burma, and
    Sundalans of India are biodiversity hotspots. However, conservation of these diverse species
    present in these areas are challenging. Ecosystems provide critical functions, maintain
    livelihoods, and enhance cultural legacy, making biodiversity protection crucial. This is
    especially important given India’s many cultures and traditions’ close relationship with
    nature.

    This paper also discusses ways to preserve biodiversity in India, such as protected areas,
    community-based conservation, strong legal and policy frameworks. This paper examines
    India’s Biological Diversity Act, 2002, which promotes the conservation, sustainable use, and
    fair sharing of biological resources and traditional knowledge.

    This paper also includes case studies from India where there have been failures and successes
    in order to provide valuable insights for future efforts. This paper has also tried to detect
    biodiversity threats and encourages innovative conservation and sustainable development
    strategies. In conclusion, this study calls for local, national, and global initiatives to protect
    India’s biological legacies, which is essential to ecological balance, human well-being, and
    cultural adaptability.
