Standard Operating Procedure for Pre-Primary & Primary

It is the mentor’s responsibility to take the class effectively and impactfully so that children
understand and follow the below procedures.
1) Be Punctual :
 Students should reach school in time (in the morning) and remain in the school for the stipulated
time.
 Students availing school transport to be ready and available at the pickup point at least 5 min.
prior to the schedule time for the van to arrive.
 Students coming by “Own transport” to be in the school premises 5-10 minutes before the first
bell.
2) Be in proper uniform:
 Students should come in clean and well ironed dress including tie, belt and socks along with
shoes polished every day. It is very important that the neck ties are washed regularly.
 Sports uniform to be worn on the days when children have Yoga and Sports class.
 Children should be dressed in the uniform prescribed according to the time table.
 During winter, if they wear a sweater or a pullover, it should be in dark maroon.
3) Attend Sunshine Assembly :
 Children should attend sunshine assembly everyday without fail to get their day dose of Vitamin
D.
 While going for the assembly and returning to the classroom, children should move slowly
without pushing or hurting each other.
 They should stand height wise in the assembly.
 The Assembly is held for 20-25 min, warm up exercises and age-specific workouts are taken up
in the Assembly.
 They can showcase and display their special talent (once in 15 days) in the Assembly.
 They should follow the code of behaviour while the National Anthem and National song are
sung.
 They should listen carefully to all announcements made.
 They should pay attention to what teachers and other students are speaking.
 If any child is not well, has health concerns, recently recovered from any illness may exempt
himself / herself from attending the assembly, However, it should be genuine and not an excuse
to avoid the assembly.

4) Aqua Bells : Three times a day


 Immediately after the Assembly - one hour before the short break: As soon as children come to
the class after the assembly, while the teacher is marking the attendance for the day, children to
drink water.
 At the beginning of the period just before lunch : This period is 50 mins before the lunch break;
here too as soon as the teacher enters the class, children to sip water.

 5 mins before the final bell for the day: Just before children start for home, they should have
water once again.

5) Have a Healthy Breakfast and a Protein rich lunch :


Munchy Monday: Every Monday, children to bring sprouts, nuts and dry fruits such as almonds,
walnuts, cashew nuts, pistachios, figs, raisins, dates, etc.
Calcium Tuesday: Yogurt, curd, spinach, coconut, pumpkin seeds, asparagus, fried onions, gingelly
laddoos, paneer, peanuts, etc, to be brought on Tuesdays.
Veggie Wednesday: Every Wednesday, children to carry salads and raw vegetables in their diet, i.e.
their snack and lunch.
Tasty Thursday :
On this day, children can bring their favourite food, like idly, dosa, puri, etc...,
Fruity Friday : Every Friday, children to bring fruits, fruit salad, seasonal fruits for snacks.
The best fruits are not imported fruits, rather the ones locally grown and available. When stored for a
long time, fruits lose the vitamins and minerals. The best fruits are guava, custard apple, bananas,
oranges, black plum (kala jamun), jojoba (regi pandu), etc.,

Protein Lunch :
 Children can continue bringing rice/roti/chapatti as per their choice and desire, but in reduced
quantity having balanced diet with adequate protein.
6) Rules pertaining to Healthy Break and Lunch:
 Do not get junk food
 Should wash hands before and after eating
 Should spread a napkin on the bench and place the breakfast/lunch box on it.
 Should get their breakfast / lunch in a steel box preferably (along with a spoon/fork)
 Should close the mouth while eating (and not to talk) and chew the food well.
 Children should complete their snacks and lunch without leaving/wasting/throwing/spilling the
food.
 In case if the food / water spills on the floor, to inform the Class Teacher immediately.
 Should inform the Class Teacher if the child forgets to get his/her breakfast/lunch

7) Safety Precautions – School Bus :


 While boarding or getting down the school van, children should not rush, run or push each other.
They should wait for their turn.
 Should stand in a queue while boarding/getting down.
 They should maintain a safe distance from the bus. Should not try to board/get down from a
running bus (should wait for the bus to stop).
 Use handrails while boarding and getting down.
 Be seated in the bus. Should not move around while the bus is in motion.
 Should not keep the head, hands, legs outside the window of the bus.
 Should not shout or play in the bus
 Should not spit, throw anything outside, tease anyone from the bus.
 Should not fight, shout or scream (it may cause injury and also disturb the driver)

 Listen to the bus driver and van attender.


 Should inform the van attender/driver in case of any problem/concern (other children troubling,
not giving seat etc)
8) Basic/ Safety rules in the classroom.
 Children should not play in the classroom.
 They should not jump, run on or in between the benches.
 They should keep their bags properly at the allotted place (and not in between the benches)
 Children should occupy their allotted places (in the benches).
 They should not push one another from the bench as it may hurt someone.
 They should not shout/scream in the absence of a teacher.
 They should keep their classroom neat and clean. (Should not scribble on the walls, benches,
damage the furniture)
 They should not litter the classroom (should throw the pencil shaving, waste etc,. in the dustbin)
 They should never put their fingers in between the door hinges (it may lead to serious injury)
 Should be careful while opening and closing the door.
 Should not put finger at the edges or near window latches.
 Should always inform the teacher if any child hurt or disturbs the class.
 Should inform elders to switch off fans/lights before leaving the classroom.
 Should not touch / play with electronical equipments.
9) Safety Precautions while moving in the corridor / climbing the stair case.
 Walk calmly and quietly in corridors to avoid bumping into others.
 Don’t run in the corridors.
 Use the left side when going up to the class/terrace for assembly and the right side when coming
down (to keep everyone safe).
 Should not push others.
 Should not go to the cellar without any teacher.
 While moving on the staircase, should maintain distance. Should not rush or push others.
 Should take 1 step at a time. Do not jump by skipping the stairs.
10) Safety rules – wash room
 • Always wash hands with soap and water after using the washroom.
 • Keep the washroom clean and tidy. Avoid littering/ making a mess.
 • Should always flush the toilet after use.
 • Use water/soap properly and avoid wastage.
 • Close the taps after use.
 • Do not spill/play with water.
 • Do not put shoes on the toilet seat.
 • Avoid running in the washroom.Should walk slowly while entering the washroom and inside.
 • Use the washroom designated for the gender.
 • Do not use the washroom frequently just to avoid the class.
 • Do not litter the washroom with the liquid handwash as someone may slip and get hurt.
 • Children should always walk in a queue and towards the left while going to the washroom.

 • Washroom is cleaned thrice a day. They should understand that as many students use it during
short break and lunch break, it becomes dirty. Immediately after that it is cleaned.
 • As students walk in their black shoes inside the washroom, the marks of the shoe sole is seen
on the floor. It is not that the floor is dirty.
 • Pre-Primary & Class I/II boys should ask the support staff to assist them to unzip/zip their
pants carefully.
11) Rules pertaining to the Ground.
 Children should wear sports uniform according to the scheduled time table /day.
 Follow the instructions of the sports teacher/s
 Treat teammates, opponents, and teachers with respect.
 Follow the rules and have good sports spirit.
 Try to be safe while using sports techniques and equipment.
 Work together with teammates and cooperate with them.
 Take care of sports equipment and facilities, if/whenever provided.
 Attend sports practices, games, and events regularly and on time.
 Inform the teacher about any injury immediately.
 Do not pluck flowers/plants in the ground.
 Carry your water bottle and keep it safety.
 Do not throw sand/mud on others.
12) Safety rules while using lift.
 Always enter the lift only when there is an elder (staff/sub-staff) in the lift.
 Keep hands away from the lift doors.
 Do not try to open the lift door when it is moving.
 Do not press/play with the lift buttons.
13) Safety measures near the Swimming pool (in those wings which have a pool)
 Strictly no running near pool to prevent slips and falls.
 No pushing and shoving near the pool.
 No diving in the pool.
 Must not enter the pool without permission of the teacher/unless accompanied with the teacher.
 Use tubs, kickboards and return after using it.
 One child should go on the slides at a time.
