FEEDBACK ON WRITING TASK 1 (MAP)

PRACTICE 1: The maps below show the development of an area before and
after the building of a hydroelectric dam.

=> * Body 1: In 1980,

- North to South (river), both sides of which lay a few scattered mountains.
- To the East of the river, there was irrigated farmland and a village.
- To the West of the river, there were rare plants and animals, coupled with
an ancient structure situated in a forest.
● Body 2: Over the next 20 years,
- The removal of agricultural and historical features => the expansion of a
section of the river => the appearance of the lake with boat and fishing
activities.
- At the southernmost tip of the lake, lay a hydroelectric dam + four
electrical towers.
- The forest was cut down
- Finally, the previous village was moved/ relocated further south in order
to make way for a hotel.
The given map highlights the development which took place in a region
before and after the construction of a hydroelectric dam between 1980 and
2000. Overall, the area had become much more developed, with more facilities
for residential and commercial purposes. Besides, the river was turned into a
lake by removing some natural and historical features.
In 1980, the area still had several natural features, including a forest with
plants and animals. Running from the North to the South of the map is the river,
both sides of it lay a few scattered mountains. To the East of the river, there was
irrigated farmland and a village lay alongside. On the other side, rare fauna and
flora, coupled with an ancient structure were situated in a forest.
After the course of 20 years, there was an expansion of a section of the
river, which resulted in the appearance of a lake, serving as a place for boating
and fishing activities. At the southernmost tip of the lake, lay a hydroelectric
dam and four new electrical towers. In order to necessitate these erections, the
previous forest was chopped down, together with the removal of some
agricultural and historical features. Finally, the previous village was relocated
further south in order to make way for the establishment of a hotel.

- The addition of a new block of houses/ row of housing units
Body 2: Concerning the changes in the South of Olive Drive

the hospital in this area has been situated at the same place over the given
timeframe.
