Novruz holiday
Nowruz holiday is a holiday related to the distant past of our people. Forty days are being
prepared for this holiday. Nowruz holiday starts on March 20. On that day, the spring season
begins, day and night become equal. Nowruz means a new day, the revival of nature. On Nowruz
Bayram, our people eat wheat, which is a symbol of summer. One of the main features of this
holiday is that cleaning is done everywhere and trees are planted. On March 21, everyone
congratulates each other and wishes for sustenance and blessings. During the Spring Festival,
children fight over painted eggs, throw hats at neighbors' doors and hide, and ask for a share of
the holiday. Brave men gallop, wrestle, play with swords and throw lassos in the squares. This
holiday is celebrated in different parts of our country. Every year, the head of our country
celebrates this holiday with the people. He listens to children's songs and poems, meets people
and congratulates everyone.
Ramadan holiday
Among the holy holidays of Islam, Ramadan has an important place. The history of this
holiday starts from the 2nd year of Hijri (623 AD) according to the Muslim calendar. It is also
called "Ramadan fasting" because fasting is observed in the month of Ramadan.
Among the months of the year in Islam, the month of Ramadan is considered the most
compassionate and holy month. He is also called the "sultan of the eleventh month", because our
holy book, the Holy Quran, was revealed on one of the nights of this month. That night is called
"Qadir" or "Ahya" night.
Muslims celebrate their most important acts of worship, including fasting and pilgrimage, and
Eid al-Adha according to the Hijri-Lunar calendar.
The month of Ramadan is a period of fasting, purification of the human soul, correction of
faults and defects, purification of mind, faith and will. With the prayers and prayers of this
month, a person goes from defects to purity, from purity to perfection. This month is the progress
of the soul, its flight towards God. In the month of Ramadan, mortal beings seem to go to the
battlefield. Faith and soul collide in this field. The soul wants to overcome every faith work and
continue bad habits. Beliefs strongly oppose it, the tongue turns away from falsehood, and the
eye and heart turn away from what is forbidden.
Fasting gives people the opportunity to test their will and endurance, invites them to purity
and kindness.
During the Soviet rule, fasting, like other rites and worships of Islam, was prohibited. But the
faithful fulfilled their duties, albeit secretly.
After Azerbaijan regained its state independence, people's freedom of conscience was
restored, and the attitude towards Islam, its worship and rites also changed. Fasting holiday

began to be celebrated at the state level in accordance with the Law "On Holidays of the
Republic of Azerbaijan" dated October 27, 1992, adopted by the Milli Majlis.
May 28 Independence Day
Our people have always strived for independence. The Russian Empire wanted to keep our
people under obedience, and Azerbaijan as a part of the empire. A government headed by
Shaumyan, an Armenian, was established in Baku. In this way, Russia plundered Azerbaijan's
natural resources. Shaumyan committed many massacres in our cities and regions in those years.
In such a situation, the way out was to fight, to liberate the homeland from foreigners. The only
way to freedom is independence. Building a free state and returning the people's wealth to
themselves became the main goal of the travelers of this road. On May 28, 1918, the independent
state of Azerbaijan was declared. The government established in Tbilisi was then moved to
Ganja and then to Baku. At that time, Armenians continued their insidious policy. On the one
hand, they raised a territorial claim against our country, and on the other hand, they committed
genocide. The treachery of the Armenians continued. They were building a new network for our
people. With the help of the black forces in Azerbaijan, the XI Red Army was deployed on our
homeland. In April 1920, the Republic of Azerbaijan fell. Only after 71 years - in 1991, the
people of Azerbaijan regained their independence. After becoming independent, the Republic of
Azerbaijan declared itself the successor of the Democratic Republic established at the beginning
of the century. Now our people celebrate May 28 as Independence Day every year.
Constitution Day
November 12 is Constitution Day. In 1995, the first Constitution of the new, independent
Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted by popular vote. Since then, November 12 is considered the
Constitution Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Constitution is the main law of the state.
This law regulates the activities of the government, regulates the relations of people in society
and with each other. The Constitution guarantees the rights of citizens. The Constitution is the
most important document reflecting the territorial integrity and independence of our republic.
Solidarity day
December 31 - World Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis. Thousands and millions of
Azerbaijanis live in many countries of the world. They live not only in their homeland - the
Republic of Azerbaijan (Northern Azerbaijan) and Iran (Southern Azerbaijan), but also in
Turkey, Germany, France, Great Britain, Scandinavian countries, the United States, and the
countries of the Middle East. There was a need to establish relations between our compatriots in
an orderly manner, and for their more active participation in the work to be done for the benefit
of our country. Therefore, in 1993, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
December 31 was announced as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis. That day is
celebrated by Azerbaijani diaspora and societies in many countries of the world.
March 8 - International Women's Day
Starting from the end of the 19th century, women in European countries began to fight for
economic, social and political equality. The women's movement was particularly widespread in
France. In 1910, it was decided to celebrate this day at the II International Congress of Socialist
Women. The author of this proposal was the revolutionary Clara Setkin. This holiday has been
celebrated in Germany, Austria and Denmark since 1911, in Russia since 1913, and in
Azerbaijan since 1917.
Feast of Sacrifice
Eid al-Adha is associated with the name of Prophet Ibrahim. On the day of Eid al-Adha,
people pray to God and help the poor. Slaughtering an animal on Eid al-Adha is related to a story
that happened in the life of Prophet Ibrahim. According to the legend, Allah Almighty orders
him to bring his son Ibrahim as a sacrifice. The Prophet agrees to this to express his love for
God. Ismail himself was ready to be a victim. This is also written in the Quran. On Eid al-Adha,
every able-bodied Muslim should sacrifice and distribute to the poor. The sacrifices we make in
the way of God show that we are ready to sacrifice everything in his way when the time comes.

Thus, if necessary, we learn and teach to sacrifice for the sake of the motherland and sacred
values.
