2023-2024 ACADEMIC YEAR AHS-SHS

Weekend Worksheet 7 10
Date: October 27-30

PART A: READING COMPREHENSION

I. Read the article and answer the questions.

A. When it comes to fashion, we want to think of ourselves as unique. For example,

we hate school uniforms. We dress up in whatever we want. This uniqueness,
however, could be an illusion. When we look around, we see that most people
are dressed similarly.

B. There is no doubt that fashion has become a crucial factor in our lifestyles. Young
adults have even invented the term "fashion victim" to describe anyone who
mindlessly follows new trends. But aren't we all fashion victims? Doesn't fashion
determine what we wear, what we listen to, where to shop, what we eat, when
we laugh, and even how we think?

C. Teens are the most eager victims. If you go

anywhere in the Western world, you will find
crowds of teenagers dressed in blue jeans,
hoodies, and baseball caps. When you ask
teens what songs they listen to or what TV
shows and movies they watch, you'll get the
same list of everything that is "in" this month.
When teenagers buy new jeans, they believe
they are exercising their freedom of choice. But surely, they are subconsciously
aware that those jeans are quite fashionable at that time of the year.
Nonetheless, every one of these young teens believes that they are a true
individual exercising their right to choose. Our choices are not entirely free.
